Or they get excited about something mundane and that excitement last a lot longer than you’d think it should. 😂 But there is no middle ground and I love that about kids. ❤
As an ASL interpreter for a first grader, this is honestly super cute and adorable and kinda of I picture my new student to view me as lol especially because the school year just started. And that is just fine with me if they do. So cute. ❤ Also, awesome job advocating for him so early! It might seem frivolous now but it really makes a huge impact down the line. 🤟 “It doesn’t have a name..” 😂
@@Puglover130 I imagine that it's a noisy environment in a classroom & can help make sure he isn't missing anything. Plus if he doesn't want to wear his "ears" (or if something happens to them) there's a backup plan.
@@Puglover130It gives a person an additional way to communicate if there are problems with their implant. Cooper is basically bilingual and needs to continue to develop in his second language, ASL, also.
I love that you keep signing even when he responds vocally. I think most people don't know that bilingual kids receive and produce different languages at different rates, and even though he produces spoken English more right now, he's absolutely still taking in that ASL.
I have 2 CODA toddlers. She is doing so good. I talk to my toddlers all the time because it is easier. It literally took me losing my voice to start signing to them more lol.
Exactly, as many Sign Language tutors tell the people they teach “not only do we have the basic signs, each region/state has their unique signs and then the person themselves have their own signs”
I think it must be just like spoken language, sure there are "rules" and "proper" ways to do things but each person learns to speak in a slightly different way, so I bet you eventually have your own signing style too. The point of communication is that it's getting information across!
Not for taking off his processor, but to give him equal access in his environment at all times. As hearing people, we can tune out sounds, focus on others, and zero in on what we need to hear. Deaf people using cochlear implants don’t have that ability due to the problem with the implants. New implants are better than the ones from 20 years ago, but are still a long way away from mimicking what the human ear can do. A bilingual bicultural approach for deaf kids is the way to go.
My wife is an interpreter coordinator and certified deaf interpreter. Your signing is great. We love your videos and the outreach you and Coop are achieving for the Deaf community. You’re doing great!!
My co-workers call me out on this all the time. Whenever I use the service for a patient I end the call “Thank you, interpreter.” I’ll have to listen more carefully for their name.
Having taught at the Maryland School for the Deaf and interpreted also this is just wonderful. Both your interaction with him and the fact that the school has an interpreter.
Awwwe, Beth, you are doing fine, don't worry about what people might comment, as long as you & Cooper can communicate, that's ALL that matters, you & Coop have an UNBREAKABLE BOND, Love you guys so much -- hugs 🙏✌️
I’m not sure I could even finger spell much any more… I would probably be reduced to a bad game of charades if I was in important need of communicating with a deaf person
You are a wonderful mom and I love to see your relationship with your son, it's beautiful. I have a special needs sister and this really touches my heart. God Bless you and Cooper ❤
I’m most all of the time off on things like this but you look exhausted. Praying for strength. You aren’t in my family here. You are my family as the family of God. Love you guys and thanks for posting these videos. Sometime I see one that pushes me on to the next moment and to not give up
Cooper is so precious and I’m glad his needs are being met at school. You’re a day 1, o.g., top-tier mama! I’ve watched y’all since he was a baby, and now he’s big, and thriving. Melts my heart ❤
Beth, I'm sorry you have to even mention for people to be nice regarding your ASL. Shame on anyone who feels self-righteous enough to dare say anything at all. I feel blessed you guys open your lives up and share what your lives are like. I personally have learned quite a bit from your videos. Thank you! You just continue doing you!!!
I was always watching the interpreters at my high school. It was fascinating to see, unfortunately I didn’t pick up any sign language skills. Also my parents asked us every day after school what we learned, or if anything interesting happened, neither of us could remember anything about the day.
It’s so awesome your district has this resource for Cooper! In the district, I teach we don’t have access to this kind of resource for our hearing impaired students.
The state is usually responsible for helping people. I know someone who went through school with a student who was blind. From kindergarten until the kid graduated.
As an ESL teacher, I think it is also phenomenal that you are showing your own language learning with ASL as you go along. I bet it’s encouraging to Cooper that you are learning along with him ❤
LoL as a deaf person it's honestly vrery normal for a lot of younger kids to not see an interpreter as a person. But it's when we get older and we actually do form a bond with our interpreters. We start learning they're more than just our interpreters. They're our teachers our Tutors our voice and our ears. And they're one of the most wonderful humans in the world . They are who teaches us our humanity as we grow. I was lucky enough to form a bond with one interpreter whom I had all through highschool. She was like a mother to me. But she kept the boundries simple. when I graduated. She was more than just that an interpreter. In the deafculture .. we bond with those we grow with. Teachers and interpreters alike. But he is so precious ;) I enjoy you and your son. You are a great mom ♥
That’s such great news. It’s hard to concentrate and frustrating when you are having a hard time understand what the teachers are talking about! The interpreter will benefit him greatly 😊 By the way, I love watching you and Coop! You both bring a smile to my face 😌
Oh my gosh my partner is an ASL interpreter in a school and this tracks with her students experiences. But such an important resource for students to keep both languages!!!😊
I have just discovered your videos and have been binge watching. You guys are so good together. He learns alot from you and you learn alot from him. Watching you guys grow close is heartwarming.
I love this kid. My 3 yr old nephew’s favorite people at his preschool (where his older siblings go to 4&1st) is his maintenance man friend who he calls “my man”! And he calls “my friend!” It’s so stinking cute and I love it so much!! stay you coop!!
I'm guessing they bleeped the teacher's name for privacy and respect. But the bleeping just made it sound hilariously dirty, like those Jimmy Kimmel bits. 😂😂😂 I'm loving this channel, watching all of you grow and learn together. ❤
“It doesn’t have a name”😂😂😂
Lol, a whole person😂😂😂😂
This is the universal answer for "I only know them as this" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’ve had plenty of preschoolers tell me their Mom doesn’t have a name, she’s just Mom. 😂
@@seg112380I've heard that one!😅
I love the sing song answers!! He doesn't have a name😮,but he pronounced.. interpreter pretty well. Good job Cooper, proud of you sweetie.
HYSTERICAL honestly. Oh him? He’s just my words. Pay him no mind.
Yeah, kids like to be REALLY excited about things, and 5 minutes later they decide they're not exited lol
they also preform sons dances and joke telling till you ask them to show Grandmom your song then NOPE
or vise versa lol

“It doesn’t have a name” oh coop…😂
Reminded me of my daughter, she always says, “it doesn’t care” instead of “I don’t care”😂😂
Mom - 'i have a question for you '.. Coop- "😛😑" haahahahhaa love this kid!
THIS. I came here to say this. 😛
Lol I also came here to say this! Like, his little tongue flick and he was listening so intently for the question.
I had to watch again
I watched it like 4 more times hahhaa. It was so cute

Hi!
I’m wondering , why would a child be assigned an interpreter if they have and use cochlear implants?

Good question! 😅 I also wonder if it will just be useful communicating through out his life, so many people know signing.

He is so adorable!
Cool interpreter to help if he takes "ears" off
Even with them. It's a noisy environment, lots of people talking at once, lots of background noise. He may still need an interpreter.
Nothing to do with if he takes them off or not.
@marikiemarie7622 oh ok true. Teach him Asl

I have interpreted in schools. Most of the time I am the interpreter.
We use linguava. It is so amazing to be able to communicate with so many different language backgrounds with a push of a button. We appreciate you!
