PSA: go to a tattoo shop instead of Claire’s!!! The piercers at tattoo shops are better trained and use piercing needles instead of the piercing guns which is better for healing and more sanitary.
A piercing studio would be even better because you know they're all trained for specifically piercings. Tattoo shops are definitely infinitely better than Claire's tho
when I was young I also really wanted my ears pierced.🤣 we got them done, with a gun at Claire’s and my ears were so irritated even weeks afterwards 😂 we tried many different materials & metals, nothing seemed to be good for me, so we removed them, retried later but this time with a gun at the SWAP MEET LOL and as you would guess, the same thing happened. As an adult, I was able go get them redone, with a professional piercer who used hollow needles, and the issue all along was getting pierced with a gun, i’m at a 00g in my lobes, no problems at all! Guns are so terrible I honestly don’t even know how they haven’t been banned yet.
You know my sister got her ears pierced there and they didn't do a very good job because she got an ear infection after that, but she was like.. ten, no I don't remember getting my ears pierced because I was only 3 years old I remember them doing it you know correctly since my ears are still pierced and nothing happened but the amount of people I've heard of getting their ears pierced their and something going wrong is like concerning lol
@@fortysiixandtwo No I'm pretty sure I was Pierced with a gun and I was fine, that's just your bad experiences and I don't understand how the equals all piercing guns are bad, I was fun and it was professionally done, I only cried because I was three and it hurt, there was no infection and no itching, I just wore earrings after that, they were fishes. lol.
@@mar420.74guns are literally proven to be more harmful than an actual piercing needle, tons of stories similar to mine, met tons of ppl who would agree with me, you in particular having no rejection doesn’t change the fact that guns are dangerous. I mean good for you that you were fine i guess? Lmao?? A true professional would NOT have used a piercing gun btw. Any amount of research will tell you that forcing a blunt object through flesh causes more trauma than a sharp, hollow needle would. Which you should totally do some research yourself since you think there’s absolutely nothing wrong with guns 💯💯
FYI: Piercing guns are some nasty shit, and ear infections are mainly caused by them. Go to an professional piercer, they use sterile single use hypodermic needles which lowers the chance of ear infection significantly.
Yess. That’s how I got mine done, and I had no issues. My mum was very ‘anti piercing gun’ (thats the best way I can put it), at least for her own kids. Cuz she knew about the nasty side of the guns so both me and my older sister got them done at a proper place and it was pretty painless (except for my sister who was getting her second ones, but thats cuz she hates needles)
Definitely, I got my ears pierced with one and literally everything that could go wrong did go wrong Long story short now I have a little scar going down the middle of both my ears
got mine done with a needle at a professionals and it.... did not heal for 4 months... I also have a piercing bump behind my left lobe now which is painful, I don't think I'll get another piercing because I'm pretty sure it'll go the same way unfortunately :(
I got mine done at a mall stand with a piercing gun. They gave me too small of an earring, so the earring started to go IN to my ear. Then we went to another piercing place where they gave us new earrings, but I was allergic and for the past 8 months still have been too afraid to change the hypoallergenic earrings I got 💀
I love how you acknowledge your childhood/religious struggles while still showing so much respect and love towards your family. That is rare to see and it honestly is really refreshing to see from a content creator
@@shgurr see how Van Gogh acted in his own conduct with his family. Van Gogh, whilst albeit being a devout christian, clashed with his father, a super traditional clergyman of some sort, on many things, especially so opting for a life of being a struggling artist.
Strict religious views have bothered me for a while (And I’m super devoted to Christ) So many people just use religious beliefs to control others and don’t like the truth, and will do horrible things to people that are against them. Even Jesus himself called out those people and they crucified him. (He was still loving to them the whole time and treated them as his brothers and sisters, as they should be)
@@ultra64dx77 Same and agree! My parents are actually really nice in that sense, but I know people whose parents - even non-religious and generally reasonable people - are much more strict about what their child is allowed to be & have.
This is a really cute story. Also kinda hits way too close to home for me personally. Can definitely relate to the whole "parents didn't let me do X when I was younger and now struggle with the concept that I'm not allowed to do it as an adult" thing. Building self-esteem is hard. lol.
My mom always had this rule for me growing up: “You can’t do something till you’re old enough when I did it, then you can do it!” So I could’ve gotten a second piercing at 15, a tattoo at 17, and drank at 19! However I was sadly a goodie two shoes in a a lot of things. Plus I knew that stuff like that was permanent, and saw plenty of my classmates get stuff they ended up regretting, so I waited till I was 17 to get my second piercing (though I did have to have it close up when I was in the army) and my first tattoo ended up being my 21st birthday present from my mom as I was sick for that birthday so I couldn’t go out drinking. And I’m actually glad I waited and got something that I really liked. I’m thinking now that in my 30s, I want more stuff. Especially tattoos, I only have 5 at the moment, and want like 20 more!
Coming from a teenage guy, i wish i could get my ears pierced. I see my girl friends with earrings and they look so pretty. Can't wait until i'm out of the house to get my own!
yesssss clair's is kinda sketchy when it comes to how they peirce it (easy infections) but if you want some cool earrings after, that'd be epic. i got waffle, cat, and daisy, and penguins earrings. so slayyy!!!!
I grew up in a religion too, they were all about treating your body like a 'temple' and would publicly shun anyone who had any piercings or tattoos (they were even harder on women that wore pants and cut their hair for some reason) but I was never allowed to do anything I wanted, and when I turned 17 my mom finally left my horrible dad and the church (not because she isn't religious anymore but because it's a fake religion that had branched off an actual cult) and she started doing the things I wanted with me, she took me to get my hair cut for the first time and for my 18th birthday took me to get my ears pierced. Listening to this honestly made me realize that I'm so happy I got to do those things with her instead of doing them on my own or with friends, I'm sure I would've felt the same as you if that didn't happen. She was even there for my first tattoo!
I'm glad you got away from that cultish church. I am a Christian and I do think you should treat your body like a temple, but there is not any scripture saying that you can't choose how many piercings you can get or that tatoos as satanic. The only reference to the whole "tatoos are bad" thing comes from an old testement law that God used to seperate his people from all their idol-worshipping neighbors, and when Jesus came to save us from our sins he abolished the old law. That's why Christians can eat pork and stuff like that now, so like, as long as you don't get any tattoos that are literally satanic symbols or stuff from different religions its totally fine from a biblical perspective. yk it really suck how many people get driven away from the faith by these ultra strict church leaders (specifically Catholics, Mormons and JW which are honestly more like cults that religions) because a lot of the time their strict and hateful teachings that drive people away from Christianity aren't even true to begin with.
@@RobotDude375the way that I've been on the internet for a decade and only now found a comment that puts it word for word exactly the same way I believe in when it comes to issues like that. Especially with Christianity, it's beyond awful to see how different groups corrupt and twist the faith into a cult for their own benefit
I'm 26 and never got my ears pierced through a combination of not being allowed when I was younger and having too much anxiety to do it as an adult. This video inspired me to finally do it
When I got my ears pierced I was shocked by how little it hurt, it was very underwhelming Make sure you clean them well though because infections are a pain
I'm 25 and got my ears pierced in January this year due to a combination of me not realizing I'm a woman until I was 19 and me not really thinking about it until then
I was also part of that religion, but raised as a “boy” (not one anymore lol) so I couldn’t have mine pierced at all… I recently got my ears pierced too!!
That is so cool, I’m 13 year old boy and I want to get my ears pierced but my parents won’t let me despite my younger sister having 2 pairs, anyway I thinks it’s very cool how you are your own thing.
i'm almost 23 and only recently started working towards getting my drivers license because of a similar feeling. being an internalizer is far from uncommon for our generation, but the way you so simply and relatably put it into words really did something for me. thanks :]
the feeling you are talking about when you looked at those younger girls in line for their piercing is what I call "age unbalance" when someone younger does something you feel like you should have done at their age or younger.I have learned to deal with it by reminding myself its better to do the THING/maintain what progress I have made.Their will always be someone younger doing stuff whats important is just doing it when you feel ready and that its never to late to hit up old goals.
I understand my feelings now but at the time I kept waiting for my mom to take me causing the complex. I held out for something that was never a priority
This is such a frequent experience for me, took me a while to learn to move past the pain of this, combination of strict parents and growing up as a closeted trans person is fuuun
as a guy who also grew up in a similair envirioment and wanted earrings this video was such an eye opener. Than you so much you've given me the confidence to do more for myself and do what i wanna for me thats invaluable hope oyu have a nice day
Growing up with overly strict parents messes up with you, doesn't it? It takes so much time and effort to go back through every fallacy you've internalized about the world and yourself, but man, it's such a beautiful path to go through. A beautiful tragedy
I’ve never watched this channel before but randomly hearing the term “internalizer” led me down a rabbit hole of finally being able to understand my childhood trauma better 😭 thanks
I relate strongly to the exprerience and feeling you felt when you saw the girls getting their ears pierced with their moms, It's somewhat similar to growing up trans and wanting things that I didn't get to do because "no that's girly you need to act better" and stuff like that and still now seeing the stereotypical Teenage Girl TM life through people i see in the street, in the mall or online it feels like you've missed out yk, like I can go with friends to get dumb piercings that'll shock our moms, I can go grab starbucks while on a girls shopping trip, I've cried about boys while my friends were doing their makeup for a party but it feels too late kinda yk, I think it's inherently part of wanting something while it's forbidden Anyway i'm glad you got your ears pierced and I hope you can show off your dope ass hawaiian earings
For so many years, I dreamed of my grandmother and I visiting the town where my grandmother grew up. I wanted to experience it through her eyes, hear her stories, and have her point out the places that meant so much to her. We always thought we had all the time in the world, so we kept putting it off. Then she had a fall and needed surgery, but the plan was always to go once she recovered. It was going to be such a special trip. Sadly, my grandmother passed away last Saturday, and we never got to make that journey. Don’t wait-time slips away faster than you think.
You have no idea how glad I am to see you able to make videos like this again. I too grew up in the Mormon church, and I am now a 35 year old, pansexual transgender gal. Many of your challenge and struggles, I can relate to, even if our lives were not the same. I can empathize. I have followed your videos for quite a long time, including during your Salty years and when you were not able to upload much. Your words, your videos, have help me get through many tough and challenging moment in my own life. Even if there are some of your videos you cannot look back on, when you felt you were at your worse, they did still mean something to many... Including me.
Thank you for sharing your story and being so open about your journey. I’m glad that the videos you’ve followed have been a source of comfort for you. While I respect you as a person, I do disagree with the idea of being trans or pansexual, as it doesn’t align with the teachings of scripture. 1 Corinthians 6:19 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them. Additionally, Romans 1:24 warns us about following desires that go against God's natural design. I believe that we should focus on following the truths in the Bible and not be led by false prophets like Joseph Smith, whose teachings contradict what Jesus and the scriptures have told us. I hope you find peace in seeking God's Word, as it is the true and unchanging foundation for our lives. Thank you again for your openness, and I pray that you find clarity and peace in His truth.
0:12 I wax actually forced into this like twice i think, once as a toddler and once around 5 because my mom thought it looked pretty, I want my earlobes unholed.
I feel that endcard in my soul. I’m such a mama’s girl and she’s held my hand through just about everything in my life that when I use my big boy money I always have the need to ask her first. Which isn’t something common for a 20 yr old I don’t think
This video hits so close to heart if im being honest. I got my ears pierced at a very young age and pretty much since young childhood my mom has told me that if I need anything I can just tell her. A few months ago we were at the mall and I said that when I started making money I wanted to share with her, but she stopped me and said: "Ive already lived my life, you're still young. As long as you're making money to support yourself without me needing to worry about it I'm happy". I SWEAR I'mma take her out to the mall one day and let her buy absolutely everything she wants. Thanks Shggur, love the vid :3
this is the first video I saw fro this channel, and this is exactly my experience with my own family, but in my case it wasn't getting my ears pierced, but it was music, style, even my personality. It took me so long to be fine with what I like, it's crazy
Man, growing up religious castrates you from SO MUCH. I have come to reconcile with many things I always wanted to do, but same as you, it took me forever to do them even when I had nothing preventing me even after I moved out just because it just didn't occur to me I was An Adult™.
This is a very true to life story for someone who grew up in a very strict religion/household. Something as simple as an ear piercing can mean a lot as one of your limited freedoms, so it sucks to constantly have it yanked away from you. For me, it was getting my hair cut the way I wanted. People think I'm crazy when I talk about how upset I was about my haircuts as a kid, so i get why you might feel a bit strange thinking back to your ear piercing desires...
I hate feeling like I HAVE to have my mom's "ok" on everything cuz that's how I grew up. Always had to have parents permission or I'd get in trouble. So I wanted to go to Miku Expo this year and I told my mom I'd pay her for gas, time off work, food (if she needed any after getting me to the airport), and any other compensation and she still said "no". Why? Cuz it's too dangerous for a girl to go by herself to New Jersey. She wouldn't bat an eye if my bro went by himself. Ugh! So I took matters into my own hands and paid for flight, hotel, food, Uber, the works and got a ride courtesy of my counselor at the time. When the day was nearing, my mom found out and had my sister-in-law tag along. She wasn't mad or whatever, but like, girl you yelled at me in the car about this and now all of a sudden you're okay with it? I don't get my mom! Anyway, I got to go to Miku Expo and meet one of my online friends and it was the best day of my life.
it's all about control. Remember you are getting older, you're supposed to take more control of your life. Your parent is stuck in the babying phase. It's something we should all learn to do, stand up for ourselves.
your videos are so comforting to me, as a fellow ex-mormon. it’s not like I have any family trauma or anything, but my relationship with religion, and, by extent, my family, is very… complicated. I’m still trying to navigate through life and figure out if the things I’ve been taught are what I truly believe or if they’re just things that have been spoon-fed to me since I was very young, and your content is really helping me on that journey. so thank you. ❤️
I just wanted to say that I've known you ever since your old fnaf animations and animatics. Those videos are what inspired my to start drawing more. So I wanted to thank you for inspiring me to draw.
"i respect you and will do as you say!" the playbook has seen *much* use over the millennia lol 😂 cool that the sisters did eventually get to have the earring experience as well!
Growing up in the church like that, too, makes it interesting looking back at how such small things could be such a big deal. My youth taboo fascination was heavy/dark music (The Cure, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Alice in Chains, etc), and loved to wear t-shirts of my favorite bands. When I started to be around more church peers at school and attending early morning seminary I started to feel guilty about it. I would compromise by wearing a flannel shirt (this was the 90s...) over top when around church or family things. Eventually the guilt won and I gave away the shirts to my non-member friends and "cleaned up" my wardrobe, especially when preparing for my patriarchal blessing and mission. It's amazing how leaders could make you feel like the spawn of Satan over such little things like that. So happy you finally did what you always wanted to do! I now proudly wear my favorite band shirts all the time again.
omg that was so cool of you!! so sweet that even though you personally had to go through that, you're still thinking of your sisters, makes my heart melt
@@shgurr sounds a bit like you were playing 2nd mom, given the way you portrayed it, but also sounds like they needed it. At least y'all had a good time!
I really like that message at the end! I know a lot of us in our 20s would have loved to have heard those words. Sometimes we have to step up if no one else will
i just got makeup for the first time, and i’m 20. it’s kind of wild how long you put this kind of stuff off for, and im so proud of myself for finally just doing it. glad to see it’s not just me 😭
I love how even if your mom didn't let you do something that was important to you, you still respect her and love her. And you also recognize how hard her life must be with 9 siblings (I have 5). ❤
OMG SHGURR UPLOAD!! im so proud of you for working to break this cycle between your mom and your little sisters!! dont downplay yourself, if those earrings mattered so much to you, then they are important and not as small as you think. i relate because i wanted to get my nostril pierced, and even though im an adult, my mom said she "wouldn't allow it", so i did it anyway! she still hates it but i love it and thats what matters, it makes me happy. you and your needs matter!! keep doing what makes you happy :)
I really like this style. I can tell it takes less time, but it makes your drawings so much more expressive. And it's funny that this is the next video you uploaded because my little brother recently got his ear pierced, much to the dismay of my parents. Talk about timing.
guh.. this hit home honestly, both being an internalizer and just waiting direly for some1 to take me to do stuff that just feels so mature that even if i couldve done it for years i just still feel like i cant because my parental guardians [my mom, then my grandma, then staff at a shelter cause my grandma died] always made it seem so... adult, and that im far from it, i mean they treated me like i was one of the 12-14 year olds when i was 17 i just wanna dye my hair but im still so scared for no reason 😭
I’m a Latter Day Saint but man, that’s just weird of her. I have a bunch of friends with controlling parents and it makes zero sense, good on you for giving your sisters a fun experience like this they might’ve never gotten. I don’t get how just some jewelry affects anything. I don’t have piercings right now cause mine got infected and hurt super flipping bad all the time (T-T), but I agree they’re so cool. Guys with piercings>>>
it's funny to me how you touched this. Since I was about 9, I wanted to get a piercing for my ear, but I definitely didn't want to get my ears pierced, specially since I'm a boy (man?) and that just felt unusual with my social circle, something too exclusive for women. So for years I never did anything around that idea, but the itch to get that piercing never went away either. Until one day I happened to find out what clip on were, and that changed everything. I even got the exact same piece as I envisioned all those years ago, and honestly I love them now, I go out with a single clip on more often than not and not only did my fears about it being too girly were completely unjustified, I legit like how I look and a lot of people complimented me on it,
Ah yes, LDS earrings policy... And me a 42yo enby dad on hrt sitting over here in the pews weighing my feelings on an eternal scale about the same topic. Your video provided a little bit of healing, thanks!
I don't know if you'll see this shgurr but I'm really proud of you! As someone who also grew up in a strict mormon house with... passive aggressive parents it makes me really happy to see the breaking of patterns espcially through generations.
After a decade of watching Shgurr, hearing her drop the DrEaDeD f bomb was unexpected, but still enjoyable anyways. Great video by the way!!!!! (Video again, Comment again!!).
7:54 maybe this is a bit of a jump in intensity but genuinely this message made me actually progress in my gender transition. I've been waiting for people around me to be kinder or to find people that will help me but I'm realizing that probably won't happen and I just need to do this for myself. A simple message with a big impact, thank you.
frrr, It takes your own effort to do it. I am thinking of looking more androgynous, but this idea still scares me as someone who live with strict parents 💀
THIS IS SO RELATABLE! for me, I’ve always wanted to dye my hair, but my school holds a strong view against dyed hair, so I’ve never brought it up until fairly recently, now that I’m graduating soon. I told my parents I wanted to dye my hair for more than a decade at this point, and my parents were saying things along the lines of ‘dyes aren’t for boys’ or ‘dyes would make you look like a dysfunctional member of society’… It really broke my heart cuz I’ve been internalising this want/need for so long. But maybe, just maybe, sooner or later I might have the free will and financial independence to dye my hair 🥹
Growing up, my mom always had me and my brothers tell her if we were going somewhere or doing something. It's definitely been a tricky cycle to break, and more often than not, we'd just lie about what we were doing even if it wasn't anything bad.
I got mine done somewhere in my teens with my dad's gf/my stepmother at the time. When I got them, I developed this weird habit of spinning my earrings around so I wouldn't have any issues with it in the future.
The big sibling count life is crazy. I just turned 19 in a family of 9 (middle child of course) and legit my whole life it’s that feeling of wanting something but at the same time getting your parents have their hands full so you just kind of have to wait. There’s a lot of things I’ve experienced where it’s like bitter sweet cus I’m doing stuff like my first fishing trips and camping trips and they feel so happy but so sad that I never got to do this stuff with my mom and dad. That clip for your mom saying “well why didn’t you invite me” than the cartoon style anger is literally how it is though lmao Also big thanks you were the only TH-camr I knew who grew up in a lot of similiar circumstances to me and i found your videos really comforting growing up!
The thing about overly strict parents is that then when you’re an adult, you have to figure out what’s actually fine and what’s actually bad from scratch. I went a little insane with it. But get piercings! Get tattoos! Not all drugs will ruin your life! It’s okay to have relationships! Etcetera.
hey, just wanted to say i love your content it really makes my day brighter, seeing your journey in you're draw my life videos and etc really made me love your channel, keep going strong! take it easy
YOOOO thank you for still including my art the end even after all this time :,O The story was cute too!! It's hard nowadays to find vids that feel nice to watch, this was one of those, & also a good reminder that I should really pierce my ears sometime finally!!!!
The timing of this video is so freaky cuz just recently I've been thinking about earrings, but my parents aren't exactly on board since I'm a dude. Still, its nice to hear a story about it coincidentally as I'm having kinda the same situation. Hope I get them someday!
I got my ears pierced when i was 17 and i uncontrollably sobbed in the center of the mall, and a man laughed at me😭 shots and needles are stuff i can't handle anymore but ya-
Being trans, this story is hugely relatable... I've always looked for permission elsewhere. It "felt so illegal" to suddenly realize I am moved out, I can do whatever I want now. Ear rings are a small microcosm but for us trans people our entire life can be like that.
i just discovered this channel right now but i think its really funny that when you started talking about how your childhood church said 1 piercing only, i immediately knew you were talking about mormons before you even mentioned it by name. supposedly they've stopped bothering kids about piercing count recently (at least where i live, i don't go anymore), like apparently they removed it from the youth book, and the moment my mom found out, she came to me and was like LETS GET 2 MORE!! it was very funny
The last part really got to me. When I was in year 12, I still didn't have a job so I didn't wasn't used to spending money whenever I wanted to. I would only treat myself at the end of the school term when I was with my friends. But, there would be times when I'd be having a terrible day and be craving something but no one else would be available. When I realised I could just go by myself, my life changed.
When I was mormon, it was awesome to know there was an animation youtube like me. Now that i’m ex mormon… it’s nice to have an animation youtuber like me :)
i got mine ears pierced at a tattoo shop (the piercing gun used at store like Clair's scared me to much) she just used a big, sterilized needle, and it was done in a few seconds she was super nice and explained everything about how to keep it clean i'm planning to get another one in each ear soon
This whole video is relatable. I wanted to get earrings, but my mum made it out to be a scary thing (and I had a fear of needles growing up). So I never did it. I'm now almost 23 and have my ear lobes pierced and my left helix pierced. Plans are to get my seconds done next year >:D
I saw someone with SIX really cool golden dangly earings, three the same on each ear and realised I can just do that now. I'd only picked up on getting to get wasted at 18 but I can JUST do stuff I want to do now and it's awesome
So far it's been growing out my hair from the longest I was ever allowed (which just ended up being 75% a classic Karen haircut bordering on what my dad would directly insult with otherwise guy features lol) to where it is now reaching to my shoulders in parts and getting to try out clothes I actually LIKE and aren't just the most comfortable clothes I will not stand out for wearing and can ignore that I am wearing (6 months ago the sheer fact I am willingly trying to figure out nice outfits for myself would be unthinkable I straight didn't know I cared).
So sure, a lot of what I do I only do on my own or hide after the fact but I can now stand up for what I want to do (publicly) without it being dismissed or directly fought against, there won't be another time my dad gets me a haircut I never wanted and puts me in a slump until it regrows. Also there's that I can buy myself stuff now lol, I couldn't exactly go about buying my first skirt however meticulously I planned to hide it if I needed to repay my mum in cash for using her card, it just wouldn't work and I'm glad that time's over.
My family is kind of catholic, but they all like earrings. And I liked them too- but my skin is way to sensitive and the idea of something going through my skin and sticking out makes me shake uncontrollably- so I’m happy that others who like them can wear em-
Hey, thank you for making content I've been watching you for years and cherish the salty hoodie I got from you. Every time you post im able to remember an easier time in my life and hear stories from a stranger that I get to relate to. Even though you have a small presence on TH-cam it's still really impactful. I look forward to your next video in 7 to 8 months.
Sick video, actually baller. Cute new animation style. Sick to see you still active and like, the ONLY holdover from the storytime animation era still doing the stoytime animation (probably because you didn't make that many videos but OH WELL.
Kinda like my mom about me cutting my hair. I always wanted to have short hair and when I asked for it she would say I could do it when I was 18 and an adult capable of making their own choices, and while I was still a minor my hair needed to be the way she liked it to be. Even my aunts tried to convince her because I was asking for it for so long. On the day I turned 18 I got up early and cut it myself before she even woke up. I've kept my hair very short ever since and everyone agrees that it suits me much better.
this is what its like to be trans for me, you want something simple yet its a long time of not having it so when you get it, it becomes an amazing moment. it always seems like no big deal for the person who did the thing without challenges because they are numb to the thing.
The Mormon earring thing is so real! I was lucky and got mind done when I was 12, but I had friends who were never allowed even 1 pair. I'm so glad you finally got yours!
Most of my friends at church had their ears pierced by the time they were 12, but I remember additional piercings being a big thing for a lot of people
@@MarwanHadidi They’re known as Latter Day Saints now, they’re a branch of Christianity who study the Book of Mormon along with the Bible and other texts. Rules change over time as prophets get new revelations, and times change. For example, polygamy used to be fine, as the majority of people also believed it was fine, but eventually a prophet decided that wouldn’t be acceptable anymore. The main church as it’s known today rejects polygamy, but there’s a smallish group of Mormons who decided they still wanted to do polygamy so they broke off and are doing their own thing. I’ve heard that in recent times more piercings are fine, along with other things. But, it’s all up to what you think is best. Just take care of yourself and treat your body well. If you think things over thoroughly, you can make the choices for yourself. We’re here to make decisions, and it’s not our place to judge others. (I realized writing this next part I got side-tracked, whoops) I myself am I Latter Day Saint, and I know everyone has different experiences. I know there’s a lot of people who have bad experiences with the church and I feel sorry for them, no one deserves that kind of stuff. There’s bad people no matter what. The Bible, which Latter Day Saints also study and follow, says that we should love our neighbor, and that’s how it should be. Jesus didn’t judge others, so neither should we. Latter Day Saints are encouraged to invite others, and make all feel welcomed, regardless of gender, age, sexuality, or appearance. Someone having a tattoo or piercing doesn’t necessarily affect their faith, it’s just an accessory. Wearing a necklace doesn’t change whether you get into Yale that day or not. Just like life, it’s all in the way you interpret it, and the choices you make. I’ve heard of many stories like this one where parents are unreasonable and just weird.

Yep, I got an ear infection like 5 times. I'm never going to wear earrings. EVER
Definitely, I got my ears pierced with one and literally everything that could go wrong did go wrong
Long story short now I have a little scar going down the middle of both my ears
got mine done with a needle at a professionals and it.... did not heal for 4 months...

My mom always had this rule for me growing up:
“You can’t do something till you’re old enough when I did it, then you can do it!”
So I could’ve gotten a second piercing at 15, a tattoo at 17, and drank at 19!

Lucky 😤✋️
@@shgurr I'm so sorry 😭

Exactly! Limited freedoms

That clip for your mom saying “well why didn’t you invite me” than the cartoon style anger is literally how it is though lmao
Also big thanks you were the only TH-camr I knew who grew up in a lot of similiar circumstances to me and i found your videos really comforting growing up!
Watching this makes me smile how much people care about this, when my mom made me get my ears pierced at 10.
0:18 i know exactly what you are talking about based on how you drew this LMFAO
3:07 i was right
Saw the to the third power. “Shgurr cube”. Nice wordplay! :D
The thing about overly strict parents is that then when you’re an adult, you have to figure out what’s actually fine and what’s actually bad from scratch. I went a little insane with it. But get piercings! Get tattoos! Not all drugs will ruin your life! It’s okay to have relationships! Etcetera.
The girl with the cool hip gash is literally transition goals! (too bad ill never look like them🥲)
hey, just wanted to say i love your content it really makes my day brighter, seeing your journey in you're draw my life videos and etc really made me love your channel, keep going strong! take it easy
I remember when my crush got piercings. I legitimately thought they were the coolest things ever
I also found piercings cool, my friends all got their ears pierced.
5:00 Sound like catharsis
Hollow knight
YOOOO thank you for still including my art the end even after all this time :,O
The story was cute too!! It's hard nowadays to find vids that feel nice to watch, this was one of those, & also a good reminder that I should really pierce my ears sometime finally!!!!
I think a lot of people are getting their ears pierced soon because of this video lol
The timing of this video is so freaky cuz just recently I've been thinking about earrings, but my parents aren't exactly on board since I'm a dude. Still, its nice to hear a story about it coincidentally as I'm having kinda the same situation. Hope I get them someday!
bro go and do it! If you want them go for it
OMG UR ART STYLE IS SO GUDDD
I got my ears pierced when i was 17 and i uncontrollably sobbed in the center of the mall, and a man laughed at me😭 shots and needles are stuff i can't handle anymore but ya-
Being trans, this story is hugely relatable... I've always looked for permission elsewhere. It "felt so illegal" to suddenly realize I am moved out, I can do whatever I want now.
Ear rings are a small microcosm but for us trans people our entire life can be like that.
Me waiting to transition once I break contact with family so I don't have to deal with threats and backlash:
i just discovered this channel right now but i think its really funny that when you started talking about how your childhood church said 1 piercing only, i immediately knew you were talking about mormons before you even mentioned it by name. supposedly they've stopped bothering kids about piercing count recently (at least where i live, i don't go anymore), like apparently they removed it from the youth book, and the moment my mom found out, she came to me and was like LETS GET 2 MORE!! it was very funny
LOLLLL
What makes you suddenly start cussing in the videos?
The last part really got to me. When I was in year 12, I still didn't have a job so I didn't wasn't used to spending money whenever I wanted to. I would only treat myself at the end of the school term when I was with my friends. But, there would be times when I'd be having a terrible day and be craving something but no one else would be available. When I realised I could just go by myself, my life changed.
I haven't had your videos recommended in a while! I've been a fan since pre covid!
Another video?! What a treat
no greg geg 😮😢
yep jesse jokes
Goat replied and Goat is back
When I was mormon, it was awesome to know there was an animation youtube like me. Now that i’m ex mormon… it’s nice to have an animation youtuber like me :)
Haha lmao

"You got your ears pierced and you didn't invite me?"
Lady, you never told her you wanted to go...
I first found your channel by your Johnny Johnny yes papa remix, while it was fire, I’m glad you’re a story time animator 👍
i got mine ears pierced at a tattoo shop (the piercing gun used at store like Clair's scared me to much) she just used a big, sterilized needle, and it was done in a few seconds she was super nice and explained everything about how to keep it clean
i'm planning to get another one in each ear soon
This whole video is relatable. I wanted to get earrings, but my mum made it out to be a scary thing (and I had a fear of needles growing up). So I never did it. I'm now almost 23 and have my ear lobes pierced and my left helix pierced. Plans are to get my seconds done next year >:D
Ayo congrats!
Ok I'm doing it.
@@WololoWololo2 getting my ears pierced. Then I found factorio lol I've just about went to the kitchen nevermind go out and got my ears pierced.
Shgurr, You deserve all the kindness of the world
Sick video, actually baller. Cute new animation style. Sick to see you still active and like, the ONLY holdover from the storytime animation era still doing the stoytime animation (probably because you didn't make that many videos but OH WELL.
europian parents: let's get her ears pierced when she's 2 months old.
I'm so glad you finally got yours!
yeah some parents hate when their kids wanna indiviuate, they lose control
Most of my friends at church had their ears pierced by the time they were 12, but I remember additional piercings being a big thing for a lot of people
I hear about Mormon rules being unnecessary and stupid, but I don't even know what it is, what the hell is a Mormon?
People suck, but eventually those children will be able to move on and live their life how they want, and that’s the whole point.
@@MarwanHadidi The term Mormon is used to refer to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The church is somewhat known for having rules that many people consider strict, like boys can't get piercings of any kind and girls can only get one ear piercing.
Hey shgurr! I don’t know if you’ll see this, but i’ve been watching you for so long, I’m so glad to be your fan, I Hope You’re Doing Ok!, I Like How You’re Animation Changes each Time You Come Back, Keep Up The Amazing Work, Shgurr.
