Carl Palmer really is the greatest drummer of all time 🥲. The twisted intricacies of this band make ASIA the greatest band of all time 🥲🥲🥲!!! I love you guys ❤️❤️❤️! You have no idea how much ya'll make my heart swell 😭!!!
Love John Wetton but love Greg Lake too and he did absolutely fantastic filling for John. This was risky but hell, it paid off. Greg Lake is amazing as was/is John Wetton.
I didn't learn about the John Wetton thing no to long ago, but the way Greg Lake made himself available for the "Asia in Asia" tour is one of the best collaborations ever. To see Carl Palmer and Greg together along with Steve Howe & Geofrey Downes was awesome !!💫💥
Known for technique, I always thought it was Palmer's imoeccable timing live that separated him from so many..He always hits those beats right on time that put the song together..
Greg Lake did a phenom filling in playing bass and singing all the songs for the missing John Wetten that famous night in Tokyo. I video taped that 1983 Westwood One performance. They're still awesome today (with John Wetton!)
I love Wetton but I love this version of HOTM! They're all obviously enjoying it; Steve's solo was great, Geoff's keytar- even Lake was jamming! Thanks for sharing...
I bought the Asia album, many disregarded it as pop sell out, but never did get that vibe, just these awesome musicians breaking the prog mold and exploring their craft. Now as then, enjoy hearing this
Carl Palmer was so much better of a performer during his heyday than Keith Moon could have ever dreamed of being. Palmer was such an innovator that inspired generations of other drummers. I never really cared for ELP until I heard the 2002 DVD-AUDIO 5.1 release of Brain Salad Surgery. It’s a masterpiece. Asia was my favorite collaboration that Palmer was involved in though. Palmer is a showman before anything else.
Moon was a Neanderthal but had great feel and energy. Palmer had impeccable timing and incredible technique. Two very different drummers but great in their own way.
Amazing drumming here, really Carl Palmer was a fabulous drummer and showman as well. But IMHO, he started to decline halfway the 90s. Through 1970-77 with ELP was penomenal, creative, powerful, as he was in the first three Asia records. Even his drumming was amazing in the worst ELP album, Love Beach (well, with the exception of Canario and Memoirs of an officer and a gentleman, and perhaps All I want is you). But he went downhill, perhaps focusing more on his solos (sorry, folks but every time I watch videos of his current ELP thing, the drums sound horrible to me). One proof of his decline is to listen to Heat Of The Moment 1982 and the re record in 2008. In 1982, those drums were terrific; in 2008, you barely notice there are drums. I have friends who are drummers and many tell me the same. I went to see him with his band in 2017, and I didn't like him at all; just noise, trying to show everybody he could play as fast in his 70s as he did in his 20s or 30s. I prefer to listen and watch to this Carl Palmer, the creative, innovator, fabulous showman, powerful drummer of the 70s and early 80s, and a bit of the 90s., until 1995, 96 perhaps. And no more. Just my thoughts.
@w8skg "Greg Lake did a phenom filling in playing bass and singing all the songs for the missing John Wetten that famous night in Tokyo" - No he didn't, he was terrible ... Couldn't hit the notes, couldn't sing the songs for shit. "Heat Of the Moment" not as bad as others. You're saying Greg was great doing the songs because you love Greg Lake. But he wasn't ... You have the same case of tone-deafness other ELP fans do, across the internet, regarding Greg at that concert. / Great drum solo! ,,
Ack. This doesn't sound that good. Probably doesn't help that I really hate this song. Kudos Steve Howe-- amazing guitar player but really better off playing with Yes. His talent is kinda wasted in Asia.

The moment Palmer points the sticks, and that opening riff from Steve Howe...the epitome of cool
Greg did great for someone suddenly thrust in this situation without a lot of time to rehearse. This is a testament to his talent & professionalism.

Well said. Both Carl and Greg where outstanding and humble
Yes indeed on that one
YES. They did do a good job, didn't they 🤔😏.
Yes muy fabuloso Emerson,Lake and Howe.
🤣 I'm glad someone else in the world knows this. Now down the wonderful rabbit hole you go!
Carl Palmer is one of the best of all times.

@@piteusx8440 Legend has it that he was born with a metronome instead of a heart. True fact!
My Lord, Carl Palmer was so crazy good!❤❤❤❤❤
He's got great technique, but his timekeeping is awful.
You could throw Carl in anytime anywhere as long as he had drums it worked. even after the age of 70 you couldn't slow him down.
YELP - two members of Yes and Lake and Palmer!
I was one of this audience.
Loved exploring the UHF-channels back in the 80s!
Great Carl 😮
I own the t shirt that Carl is wearing in this .... he gave it to me at a drum clinic I saw him at a long time ago!
@@doso544 lol well carl autographed it and it's been framed so no!

Great Carl and Howe very very best
And that’s why they where called a super group!👌😎👍👉❤️

I was looking for this performance for a long long time. Thanks , Awesome
At the 6:40 mark Steve Howe kills 90 secs solo! Then finishes virtuoso duet w/ Geof Downes!

Great stuff! takes me right back to the '80s
Amazing Carl !!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫💥💫✨🎶🥁🎸🎧
the man is just awesome!
This is the first time I have heard this in stereo. This is an awesome drum solo Carl did in 1983!
Thanks you so much for uploading this!
He also did it at the California Jam, 1974
Greg and Steve in a ONE stage!

Nice. Been looking for a clip from this show for a long time.
One of the finest.
Fantastico ❤🎉
I can only imagine if Carl Palmer were to hook up with Rush and do a show

Happy 40th
I've had that assessment of the Greg Lake Asia Budokan show up there, for a year ... and that's the best you can come up with?
Graig was my preference for vocals for Asia
@w8skg Your 2nd half is right, 'They're still awesome today (with John Wetton!)' ...... 'with John Wetton', is the key thing, there
Padarack1 does your left hand over get tired from jerkin off?
Yes & ELP have a much larger legacy than Asia.
HUGE ELP FAN HERE!!! 😀❤💋😍💙💜💚💛❤💙💜💛👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Carl Palmer, always great but ELP was a much better showcase for he & Greg's talents.
wrong. He killed it here.
Anyone here in 2027?
Steve is too classy for this song

I wonder if Geoff gets confused when he walks into a Guitar Center and sees a wall of keyboards on display...?
ok, err, why did Downes have his back to the audience? Audience is just looking at his back the whole time...
🙃
Because he’s playing keyboards that are positioned that way. They could have put them on an angle so we could see both.
Geoff Downes is no Keith Emerson.

i see your still alive eh. not a listener are you
This incredible genius is right along with Neil Peart! I don't believe these guys are from this planet......

They should have kicked Howe and Downes off of stage and replaced them with Keith Emerson.
IDIOT.
he has fast hands but weak foots
