Saw ELP on their WORKS Tour without the orchestra, and when Carl got on the kettle drums was amazing with all kinds of primitive rhythms incorporated into a wonderful Solo!!Complete with glowing Dragon on his Gong and me on LSD,,,
When I was a young kid there was a guy up the street named Dave who had a huge drum kit and He was a jazzy styled drummer who could Rock Out. He played all this Carl Palmer stuff and Mitch Mitchell and It Always sounded So Great. I wanted to be a Drummer. He showed Me things and I remembered it for later. Everytime I heard Him I would go up to His Garage. he reminded Me a lot of Carl.
Just heard the news that Carl is no longer in Asia…at least for now…hurts. Asia shows will never be the same without these incredible and in-duplicable drum solos…
I have that t shirt that carl is wearing in this vid .. I saw him at a drum clinic and he was wearing it and he gave it to me after the event when I met him.. he confirmed it was the same one … and he autographed it for me … It's a little grubby now but I just can't wash it as his autograph will disappear!
The solo is derived from Tank a song of the second studio album he has added alot to this solo over the years when I saw The Carl Palmer band in 2016 he did this exact solo it was breathtaking...
This Was After his Prime But Still Awesome..ELP Was His Prime..And He Has Buddy-Rich Esque Hands. I Think Carl Is The Closest to Buddy Rich's Hands. Charlie Adams would be My Next Choice...
doesnt matter if is the one of queen or the one from duran duran...., is other league, true which carl do it all before peart and still carl can kill neil at any period only with the snare...also neil try to reinvented him self changing the grip and the position and movements of his body..., carl was playing ad doing all from the first time....also the last drum set of neil is a copy of the stainless drum kit of carl...., in the way and place is everything....
@@yunarukami14 of course, also i like him like a drummer, also i like his voice a lot and queen is fantastic, love that band, but to name him here with palmer and peart is strange, and imo crazy..., about the drummer of duran duran i dont know it, never hear duran duran and the drummer..., i know what kind of band is but i never hear them..., i dont know the confusion...
Although my all-time favourite drummer has always been Cozy Powell, here's Carl Palmer at his best days behind the kid. I am a massive fan of his through 1970-77 as well as his work in early Asia. He really was sublime, both in the studio and live, an innovator of percussion, who was already a genius in his early 20s, in a time filled with great drummers and great bands. But IMHO, since halfway the 90s onwards, his playing declined, doing the same thing over and over again, very repetitive. Today, at 74, he still plays almost the same and tries to show he can play as fast as when he was much younger. Sorry, folks, I am not dismissing him nor being disrespctful - in fact, it's fair to recognise his huge contribution as a percussionist. But from halfway the 90s onwards, he changed a lot, relishing more on his solos. Today, when I see his current playing with his band, I definetly don't like him; he is a very talented guy, but to me, IMO, has never developed into creative player; he seems to be stuck in the same thing for years. Very predictable. To me, I prefer this Palmer, the powerful force behind ELP and early Asia. Cozy will always be my favourite, as he has been for the last 40 years, long before I ran into ELP; I should add Neil Peart, another spectacular drummer; Roger Taylor (Queen), Ian Paice, Bill Bruford, John Bonham, Phil Collins, Scott Travis (Judas Priest), among others. But with regards to Carl Palmer, give me the Palmer of ELP and early Asia. Not the current Palmer. Just my thoughts.
Hard disagree. In this solo Carl is playing in a Rich-like style to a degree that few rock drummers ever could, but Buddy was more agile and creative than even this - which is no dig against Carl. Yet Buddy wouldn't have been able to do what all Carl did in ELP and Asia.
Fantastic - the best drummer ever - I have seen him in 6 concerts - the best of course in Montreal 1977 Olympic stadium - the best solo ever
45 yrs later- still my favorite drummer.

Great solo, great show, great TD and camera work.
Absolutely Awesome! Is it just me or did I hear bits and pieces of ELP's "Tank" thrown in there?!?
Yes you did. It’s basically the same drum solo he did with ELP including taking off his shirt and drum kit revolving.
King Carl on the kit!! God Bless his talent!!!
Asia in Asia. How I wish I could find that video again!
I could probably listen to the part at 1:10-1:20 over and over and be satisfied for the rest of my life.
Yes! That thing of going to the bottom two toms then the cymbal hit is such a Carl move.

Amazing!
Love the sound of those Premiers!!!
And that is the Reason I Play Drums..

That’s very kewl
Rocks goat. No one even close in that genre.
Asia não seria quase nada sem o Carl Palmer !
I saw that concert at The Wax Museum in DC.

I agree charlie Adams one of the all time greats as well. Yanni
He did the same exact schtick for 50 years.
Smooth as silk!

King Carl!!
😎👍💗🇬🇧🥁🔥🎼💣🔊)) GO CARL GO!!!
Pra mim um dos melhores de todos os tempos...
And all of that in shorts playing trad grip. Much respect.
Love this solo! The camera work is about to make me jump overboard though.
Before Neil Peart and Roger Taylor, there was Carl Palmer.
roger taylor?

Palmer along with Peart are the Greek Gods of percussion ⚖️
Those behind the back stick flips are pretty bad ass ... very risky.
I see now why Neil Peart liked Carl Palmer a lot very under appreciated drummer.

In some future episode of Ancient Aliens, AA Theorists will contest King Carl wasn’t of this Earth
FODA!
O QUE DIZER, DISPENSA APRESENTAÇÃO. ESTÁ SENTADO ABAIXO DE BONHAM AO LADO DE PAICE ETC.
What's with the weird electronic toms there? Sounds like he did use a Simmons brain. Did he actually built those custom drums?
Simmons commissioned some sculptor to design a series of head-shaped pads of which the company made a limited number.
Those shorts look a bit snug!😂

Way better than anything buddy rich ever did.
I mean Buddy Rich was certainly awesome. But it’s a matter of opinion
Buddy was more jazz
Palmer more rockish
Buddy#1 Palmer#2

Great drum solo, crappy camera work. Ugh.
Amazing drummer, but he can't play double bass and the taking the shirt off thing is ridiculous.
