@@johnstdominic9887 Agreed. I was lucky enough to have seen him in the 90s with Chris Squire and the rest of Yes. Easily one of the best concerts I've seen...

Happy Birthday Geoff Downes born on August 25, 1952. He is an English keyboardist, songwriter, and record producer who gained fame as a member of the new wave group The Buggles with Trevor Horn, the progressive rock band Yes, and the super-group Asia. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoff_Downes#Discography
The live shows before John Weston died really showed off the incredible musicianship of all four members of Asia after 40+ years of honing their craft. I actually prefer these live performances over the original studio recordings. I’m still feeling sad about John Weston’s passing. I love his vocal interpretation of this Buggles classic.
Saw this reunion tour with a good friend. They did songs from Yes. Crimson, ELP, and this. Small sro venue in NYC, and it was great. I was maybe 20 feet from the stage.
27 Feb 2000 this / video was the 1 million on MTV... 1 july 1999 it was the first video on MTV Classic - UK... in the phillipians 15 feb 2010 it was the last video played and the MTV pulled the plug..
I give them a lot of credit, they did a really good job with that song not too bad. 1 out of 10 give them a 8 if you agree give me a hoot and y'all have a great day and by all means God bless the eighties.ll
I consider myself truly blessed to have grown up in the 80’s to enjoy all the great bands, epic music and pop culture! There will never be anything like it! ❤️
Surprised they would do this. A female background singer would have helped! Not bad but not even close to Trevor's live versions. Very rock 'n' roll! P.S. What the band could not do in the vocals department, they made up for it in the guitar solo one! Amazing.
As the song's co-writer, Downes doesn't need Horn's approval to play it. Also, you can't really blame Downes for jumping at the chance to join Asia. Perhaps they were a bit overhyped as a "supergroup", but the opportunity to team with virtuoso musicians like Howe and Palmer isn't something that presents itself every day. The Buggles OTOH were mostly a one-hit wonder. Trevor Horn may be as good a bassist (perhaps a bit better?) as Wetton ever was, but Wetton was clearly the better vocalist, songwriter, and overall musician.
I don’t think he is underrated at all. Guy is highly respected with a huge catalogue of massive selling albums. If you mean he is great then absolutely 👍🏻
as tribute to the amazing John Wetton ... I would highly recommend the studio CD "Battlelines" and the live CD "Chasing The Dragon" - - UK live Night After Night is a blast too - I got to see Asia's Alpha tour which in retrospect would easily be them at their best - lot's of material - Alpha had 2 lousy singles and 8 great album tracks esp Midnight Sun and Open Your Eyes - a fave cd
Geoff Downes, John Wetton (RIP), Steve Howe and Carl Palmer... Greatest genius....Thanks for your music, Forever!!!
Geoff Downes is not dead
Nor is Carl Palmer ... I hope ...
Geoff Downes still alive!
I miss John Wetton, his voice and playing, more and more every day. Amazing guy!
Amen to that. I miss him too.

Carl Palmer is an outstanding drummer.
The original ASIA line up to cover this BUGGLES smash hit, what a great idea by this super band ! Thanks John and RIP !
not that much of a stretch since Geoff was in Buggles......just sayin'
@@dettigs Yes, he was 50% of Buggles. So you've literally got half the band on stage there!

Too true!

Steve Howe playing backing vocals on the guitar 👍
Seeing Steve Howe play this song is awesome and they jam it.
I thought the same thing. He reached out and owned it...
@@Jreb1865 Same for Heat of the Moment and Sole Survivor. Howe didn't write those songs, but it's his playing that makes them.

Which would be great, sure, but this isn't Howe.
Both of The Buggles ended up in Yes for a while-this lineup of Asia is exponential supergroupery 🤘
Awesome version! Miss this version of Asia! Will never be the same without JW.
Four master musicians could nail just about any song! Well done!!!

Great rocking cover of an 80's classic. Tasteful solo playing from Steve Howe. Thanks for sharing

Still the best cover of this song 👍🏻.....RIP JW
Great vocals and bass by JW as usual, RIP
Just love John’s cadence and flow of vocals. The whole band sounds terrific. Thank you for posting.
I was blown away when I saw them place this in Boston on the first reunion tour. The 4 of them individually just sound so amazing here.

JOhn Wetton's vocal sounds remarkably like Greg Lake. Both are sorely missed. But their notable histories are indelibly recorded for eternity.

How is #ASIA NOT IN #THEROCKNROLLHALLOFFAME.?
R.I.P. John Wetton. Humor hatten die Jungs...ich weiss nicht, wie Geoff Downes gerade Steve Howe dazu gekriegt hat, seinen Song zu spielen..... :-)
AFAIK, Downes and Howe never had any personal issues with one another. The big "rift" in Asia was always that between Wetton and Howe. 😢
Surprised they would do this. A female background singer would have helped! Not bad but not even close to Trevor's live versions. Very rock 'n' roll! P.S. What the band could not do in the vocals department, they made up for it in the guitar solo one! Amazing.

Ironically, Geoff Downes ditched fellow Buggle Trevor Horn to join Asia. Did Horn approve of this cover of the Buggle classic?
As the song's co-writer, Downes doesn't need Horn's approval to play it.
