  • In this video I demonstrate all 5 of the “high-gain” amp models with my Fender Stratocaster as well as my Les Paul on 3 different pick-up settings. I use the “default” settings, a “flat” setting where all dials are set to 5 as well as my own custom settings for each amp that I setup using my Les Paul. I’m playing a quick little bluesy pentatonic riff with each setup. Below is a time stamp list if you’d like to jump to certain sections. Enjoy!

They all sound great, each for what they’re meant to be. Thanks for taking the extra time to record with both guitars!

One question when you get a moment: Were all of the tone controls dimed, or did you roll the tone back on any of them? Thanks!

James The-Doctor Dimed for sure my dude! But darn it if that isn’t a good question/suggestion! If nothing else, I can add that info when I do the next one, and add it to the description of the vids. Thanks bud!

@@sparkamptutorials2169 thanks for the reply, and you’re very welcome. I’ve found that the tone of both Les Paul pickups individually is very different at one end vs the other, especially with the neck pickup, but not so much with both selected. Rolling the tone knobs down to “0” on all of my Les Pauls gets me pretty close to Clapton’s “woman tone.” Running that bass-y pickup into a high gain amp gets me close to what Randy Bachman called “The Herzog” in a very old Guitar Player magazine interview way back in the mid-70s. It’s the tone you hear on the guitar hook in BTO’s No Time.

Hery man do you have any problems with the noise gate killing notes/sustain way too early? If i turn the noise gate off its unusable on high gain amps

Yeah, but if you adjust the settings you can reign that in a bit... I’ll post a link to my video on that
