  • Video timeline and some heavy machinery used for removing snow (as they appear in this video):
    1. 0:10 John Deere Grader specificatications and some photos -- bit.ly/1eQNfSW
    2. 1:57 Bombardier SW 48 images -- bit.ly/QxabLT
    3. 2:24 Still preparing the snow line to be picked up:
    4. 3:29 The beginning of snow collection itself:
    5. 6:10 Another truck is ready to be filled with snow:
This is a real life example of how it is possible to deal with snow on the streets. For many people this is not new or something extraordinary but there are some countries in the world for whom winter comes every year *too suddenly*!
In the beginning there is some camera shake as for the rest I tried to be as stable as possible while handholding the camera.

That was an enjoyable, well-developed depiction of the Montreal snow removal operations. Very nice!
Here in Saskatoon, things aren't too different, but our service isn't nearly as frequent or competent.

thank you, it has been a pleasure to see how these people work to clean up the streets - a very unusual to me coming from a different East European country.

actually the answer is in this video as at the same time they are cleaning the sidewalks as well. if you have noticed there is a small utility vehicle passing a couple of times in the first part of the video, it is being widely used in Montreal for cleaning narrow passages. the snow is not being removed it is being pushed to the sides.

I live in Ville St Pierre during that time, and snow removal equipment used was never from the city of Lachine. Nice footage man.

I have seen last winter the trucks would carry the snow to an area close to Angrignon Mall and dump it there. There should be more places, there is a smaller zone at the entrance to Lachine close to Highway 20 (between St Joseph and Victoria), etc.

Unfortunately, it is not being done like this anymore... Maybe budget cuts?.. Maybe too much snow? :-)

I get it now! So these utility vehicles push the snow from the sidewalks to the road from where it can be removed by heavier machines. Cool!
I kinda envy you cause where I come from they (try to) clean the snow in an opposite way. Firstly then push it to the sides of the roadway, while paying no attention to sidewalks at all and only then (after the snow has hardened eventually) they begin to load it slowly into trucks and move it away. Which not effective at all.

While probably not as exciting or interesting, I would like to see where the trucks go after they are full. Do they just go to the river and dump it in?

How do they clean the sidewalks and bike lanes in Montreal? It seems imossible to put that heavy machinery into those places..

in the past they would dump the snow in the river. but for ecological reasons (there is a lot of dirt and garbage in the snow) they now dump it in a quarry (which i do not remember the name.)
