watching you get hit after almost every single stake makes me really think they should add a guard point at the end of the animation as well I mean, your shield is out in front if you already...
The recovery could be a tiny bit faster. You can time the wsb perfectly and recovery where you can't dodge or guard from is still too long and you'll get hit.
There aren't many GL guide around so this really helps! I just picked up GL again since MHFU and they really smooth the way the GL is played in world, this vid just smooth things more, nice vid and keep it up!
Wow, this is some next level tech. With how many MH vids I watch I am very frustrated I had never been recommended one of your videos ‘til now. Instant sub! See you in Iceborne!
Great observations and great info! I agree with your take on the guard point. It's not a reactive GP. It's meant to be used when you anticipate an incoming attack.
Definitely get a feel of how each one loads in the training room first tho especially evade loading. you pretty much have to do it right after or the input wouldnt register. And the first few times you tried in combat would be difficult because there is a lot of new buttons that you have to remember. but it definitely is satisfying to pull it off. Good luck!
Thank you so much!!! I've been trying to land the WB by spamming shells, which has been hit and miss (mainly miss). Really like the Guard load and unload, not managed to get the Evasion load done yet but will keep practicing. Thank you once again. Have a like
Wao, this is actually the guide I was searching for, I was trying to find help on reddit and gamefaqs, because nobody where giving a properly explanation on what is the guard point during the wsb reload. Thank you so much, now I can play the gunlance properly.
I'm not sold yet because you get punished almost every single time after your WSB is attached. Later on, that one hit against you is going to kill you in master rank. I am hopeful though, I love the GL.
angelover116 most of velkhana’s punishes are non lethal imo. I am getting hit yes but the trade off is having one of the most powerful flinching tools stuck to her head for 5 mins i think its a sacrafice im willing to make
angelover116 yee thats why this tech is really situational until you learn the monster inside out. Im just brainstorming that you might be able to punish rajang’s lazor and the third thunder ball attack if they keep the same animation speed and everything. Diablos will be easy because the dig is easy to predict. Black diablos on the other hand... to be perfectly honest the only move i think it’ll work is when he does that little walk towards the left and scoop you with his horns.
Yeah I was trying to get back into gunlance but the lack of mobility against master rank monster and how easily you get punished really put me off. I got carted by a simple nargacuga yesterday, with my lance build narg can't even damage me. Hitting the WS with the gunlance low mobility is really hard for me and I always hated back hopping to close distance :/
I think there should be a guard point after you attach the WSB/Wyrmstake, your hunter even holds their shield perfect for a block :S Nevertheless awesome video and thanks for showing off all this tech!
Sternenkundler thank you for watching! I just hope there is more defensive options for gl tho especially fullburst. Long GL actually reigns king now because of how fast it is and you can go into guard pretty much right after a shot
I dunno... I believe that would remove the high-risk/high-reward factor and probably create a hell lot of klaw (for picking up slinger ammo) and WSB spamming...
epic ending :D I really would like to see a general advance guide of you for any weapon (main combos you use in which situation and what points to focus on to punish monster attacks...), but I understand that your main purpose of your videos is to shown rarely known stuff.
Fritz Peter The thing about a full combo guide is that they are very lengthy to make and requires a lot of research/clip collecting. Especially because I use examples from a real hunt so I need to make sure that what I’m talking about can be applied in a hunt setting. Also this whole channel is a passion project with school being my priority so I can’t devote a lot of time in it. I’m not making money from my videos and the reason this guide and the greatsword one came out so fast is because I had a lot of free time in the summer. I guess the upcoming Switchaxe guide will be the closest thing to a full combo guide BUT I’m still in the stage of collecting clips so that will have to wait a while. All in all I’m glad you and others enjoy these guides it’s the reason I keep making them👍
How did I miss this vid 200+ hunts of frustration because I just felt this weapon had so much potential and Capcom felt like it was OP and nerfed it... but I am just bad. GIT GUD! 10/10
Only recently I learned to target strafe with the charge blade, and i wondered if it was usable on the other weapons... nearly every weapon gains something from this movement tech, it's amazing!
I'd normally avoid shelling in World/Iceborne because it was so much of a hassle for so little damage, and WSB was too cumbersome to use. Meanwhile the slash combo with elem up+crit eye(+elem crit) was so much useful and much easier to pull off.. Now I see a use for shelling again. Thanks a lot for this!
Awesome video, 5 years laters I learnt so much. Still don't understand the aim thing, probably doing it wrong but I can't turn 360 anf launch my WSB in the direction I aim like backwards.
Aziz Rowaie LOL fuck sorry ive been having way too much fun with GS havent touch switchaxe in iceborne yet. Ive got a lot of clips from the beta but lemme finish the story first
577hrs in and I dont use Gunlance and dont know what WSB is. Thought the video would be interesting and teach me something new but No common terminology and abbreviations make for poorly distributed information 😭 maybe consider educating everyone instead of assuming it's common knowledge.
is there anyways to block or evade after applying WSB?? or u just vulnerable after that? kinda disappointing u get hit after successfully applying WSB onto the monster...Great video btw!!!
JiwaKacau noo ur fastest evasion option after wsb is evade unfortunately. Gl has got some really unfair recovery animation and i really hope they buff it
I was ready to abandon ship on the gunlance but your skills make me think there is hope. I'm definitely not using it to it's fullest. Can you do a video soloing shara? He's a serious rooster blocker.
C Ciau D; sorry dude im like really bad at speedrunning. For shara i just go full utility build w/ tremer res and mirewalking because 90% of my carts come from getting tremor comboed. If i post a run it’ll be a boring 20 mins
@@imaGiraffeMH hey I tried normal with utility like you said and did it in about 23-25 minutes which was a pb for me! Do you think later in iceborne gunlance will fall off due to power creep?
C Ciau HELL YEAH congrats on the pb!! Dude gunlance is at its prime right now mark my words. Theres a lot of monsters with really bad hitzone values (ie gold/silver rath & namielle) and with shelling completely ignoring those problems means that you can play really safe especially in multiplayer
I totally remember your GS guide. That was awesome work. I had a question though. I found inconsistencies while trying the evade loading technique. Sometimes it would load the wyrmstake and sometimes it wouldn't. I checked if I had reloaded and had slinger ammo and all was good, it just didn't load the wyrmstake for some reason after I evaded and input L2+O. Did I do something wrong?
FeanorBR The switchaxe guide will be the last one I put out for Iceborne. I like to cover mechanics that is relatively unknown to the community and HH speedrunner Griffted has already put out some seriously high quality stuff if you want to learn more. Watch his videos u can learn a lot more from a speedrunner than a casual pleb like moi😛
@@imaGiraffeMH Oh yeah I saw his videos, he never updated to Iceborne, though, like an in-depth look at the Echo note mechanics and what we should aim for with it. Personally I've been treating it as spin2win, pretty much.
FeanorBR i think i remembered somewhere mentioned that spin2win does the most dps on downed monsters unless you have triple impact echo. But honestly for hh once you know the fundamentals, iceborne changes are more like icing on the cake. Impact echo and spin2win are more punishing tools but the base World kit is still what u’ll use in standard skirmishes
Honestly. I would love to go in the regular(?) Wyrmstake Pile from evade without the slinger ammo. The move it slow enough that I dont think itll be OP.
xBionicMeltdownx Ah thank you for bringing this up. Doing the regular combo assumes that you preload your WSB ammo before you engage a fight. Sometimes when you pickup slinger ammo in the middle of the fight the monster wont give you any chance to load it because of Master rank’s aggressive nature. But this guide serves as showing people the tools that is avaliable within the game mechanic and not telling people how they should play
Wait nvm i see what you mean. Well the fact is that WSB essentially doubles your fullburst damage but i can see why people wont like the whole trouble of setting it up.
Red Hellgar btw just saw ur post on reddit im glad you enjoyed it😎😎. Im not sure if u deleted a reply asking for something but its not showing up if u jave any questions feel free to ask
Why not use the extended term name of the term instead of the acronym at least the first time you mention it? I took a while to realize what GP was because I thought it was a short version of a gunlance move, not something appliable to more weapons.
Alrekr666 i see it tossed around all the time so i guess i just assumed ppl would know when I made the comparison with chargeblade gp. Wont happen in the next vid tho cuz i think ima be voicing it
@@imaGiraffeMH Thanks for the reply! I play mostly Lance, GS and SnS, so I took a while to associate GP with guard point hahah. I'm trying to get into gunlance now and I like wide shelling, but it is too gear intensive for it to work properly. Or maybe I just suck using it. Good luck on the next video, I'm looking forward to it!

scarops it was such a eurika moment for me. After i have this mindset, implementing gp into hunts just becomes easier
Thanks so much. Was having a lot of trouble hitting WSB on faster monsters (esp. velkhana) and this helps a ton
