- morecambe now and then, how morecambe has changed over the years from when i was a child in the 1950s and 1960s,
as a kid we would get a runabout ticket and travel on the steam trains and would travel through to morecambe for the the fun, i remember when roy orbison sang there, and who can forget the ship the Moby Dick the best days of my life
Lovely video. I've stayed at the Midland a number of times and it's easy to imagine how spectacular it must have been in the 30's. Even today, walking down that amazing circular staircase into the lobby is a glamorous experience. I hope, in these 'virus times,' that they are able to hold things together
Me too!! I Love Morecambe & the Midland Hotel!!!
Sometimes we forget how much has been accomplished.,
...just need to keep going forward!
...especially after such a successful weekend !!
I walked the bay twice from Bare, a long way down the bay from Hest Bank. I had been a lifeguard during the summer and I knew the tides. I crossed with no difficulty each time. The second time with my brother in law, I was greeted by a copper with the words, "You f*****g idiot". Some one in the flats had reported our departure. Cedric Robinson was hovering in the background as we walked up the beach at Grange-over Sands. No doubt he he disapproved our venture. I found our 'reception' rude and unwarranted. Crossing the bay without the 'Queen's Guide' was obviously deemed to be an outrageous act of insubordination!
Morecambe is Much more than a Seaside town...
That Morrisey song is sadly becoming Morecambes unofficial anthem.
People that call Morecambe a shit hole.. see below.. should go back to sunny Salford or other magical places. As Mum used to say.. don't like Morecambe FOff home.
This song has always reminded me of Morecambe. Went to scooter rallys there. Proper shit hole.
Geet ya hair cut laddy...
