To me it feels like an oversight that Physic stops scaling once you change to SMN. I mean, RDM can heal...moderately, why not SMN? Phoenix Healing scales, so why not physic? Maybe one day they will fix it to heal to at least Vercure levels. Maybe its intended IDK.

Funny that I went through story with new summoner and it's so easy now that I doubted I was playing it correctly since it can't really be this easy.. but yep. It's so easy before 86 you pretty much aren't allowed to have a perfect rotation unless you cast ruin when anything else lights up. Compared to black mage, what I consider to be the hardest class in the game, it's funny how similar in theme they are and so different in practice.
I came here for this very reason! Leveling SCH so I swapped to SMN and I thought I was doing something wrong. But nope - this is how it's supposed to be.
I watched every guide you made, super helpful every time I wanted to get into a new job, but honestly I then started to watch them just for the sake of watching them, like even jobs I knew already, or re-watching the same multiple times, I just love these guides and was super happy that chair suggested them as well
I've been a SMN main since like 2.4, and I've been with summoner through all the ups and downs. I've always loved the job, but this current iteration is basically what I always wanted from it. The ENTIRE job is now summoning, and that's basically all you do! Yeah, it's honestly a little *too* simple, but the aesthetic of it goes a long way toward my enjoyment. And it sets a good foundation for ways they can improve and build on it in the future. Imagine if after you summon Bahamut, what if all your 3 basic summons changed to new summons? Maybe turning Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda into Leviathan, Ramuh, and Shiva? That'd be incredible. Or maybe it'll be something else they do in the future. Whatever it turns out to be, I'm here for it. EDIT: I guess it'd be after summoning Phoenix rather than Bahamut, wouldn't it lol. Whatever, point stands!
Yeah I agree personally this version of Summoner is so good. Summoner was my first level 80 in Shadowbringers and I can't get enough of it still, very well done imo 👍🏿
As a SMN main, the most accurate description os SMN i have ever heard was "You want to have the mobility of a Ranged DPS with the DPS of a magic DPS" And now its even more true :D
in regards to Enkindle, my guess is that you are supposed to be changing who you target with them in regards to aoe. Ifrit, you want to choose the enemy closest to you, that way the cone will be as wide as possible over the enemies. Titan, the enemy furthest from you (So he gets into the middle of the pack), and Garuda, the middle most target. This would also means that everything gets lowered at a similar rate, rather than having one target who takes all 3 600 potency attacks getting nuked to death and leaving everything else at 40%, if it was only a pack of 3 enemies, you just nuked one to death and left it down to two enemies instead, time to swap to single target. That said, Ifrit probably wants someone middle of the pack as well for the same reason you want to target the furthest for Titan, so they get in close enough to hit multiple targets. Probably just something to do with the ai using their aoe the moment it can hit their target, rather than getting close to the target and then using their ability.
Ruby Carby/Ifrit-Egi's Inferno is a bit weird, because it still targets like Titan's. It'll fire off the moment its target is within max range. You still wanna aim it towards the back.
Excellent guide! What I really like is that you don't spoil what spells and abilities we're going to get later on in the game. Essentially I can take my time leveling and come back to this guide when I've learnt a few more skills that I might need to add into the rotation.
Doing God's work, Wesk. I used your guides all the time when I started playing in March 2020, I'm glad to see you're still doing them and helping out a lot of others in the process
I may modify this comment later, but I appreciate you slowly going through each aspect. I just started FF XIV and picked Arcanist/Summoner. I have no idea what I am really doing, even though I am at level 24 now. Hopefully I can figure out which skills I need to focus on better from this!
@@ASTOGK I got distracted away. I am still primarily playing ESO, but that could change when my ESO+ sub runs out in a bit. I just didn't get hooked into FF XIV, but it would now be easy to get back into it. I am also playing some Genshin Impact, but I doubt that will ever be a huge play focus since it has so much I need to figure out and has the gatcha elements. Perhaps I will try more with FF XIV over the holidays.
Enormously helpful, WeskAlber. I am absolutely rocking the damage because of your clear, concise guide. More importantly, I’m confident I know what to, when and why. A great example is putting Rekindle on the tank. Not something I would have figured out on my own. I’m also taking on other jobs with no hesitancy whatsoever, because I can come here and easily work through what we’re given, what it does and how to use it. Can’t tell you how much extra enjoyment I’ve gotten from the game due to your efforts. One suggestion for you: need a way to help folks understand when one spell is changing into another, either it’s being replaced permanently due to an upgrade, or it changes automatically as other effects go off. Summoner may be the poster child for the latter case. You do state it as you’re going over the new spells, but honestly, all the spell names just jumble together after awhile. It’s hard to keep them straight. Perhaps, a graphic of some kind showing progression from spell to spell. Thanks again.
OMFG thank you, I’ve not played for a number of years and recently decided to get back into it. I knew things had changed as I loosely kept up with notes, but damn I’ve been confused af for a bit because it’s very different from when I left. If it helps specify, I left before they introduced the new job UI elements, so it’s been a minute! Thanks for posting AND providing a sample rotation!!!!
To give people an idea how ineffectic Physic is: My Summoner is currently Lvl90 with ilvl 622 and around 65k HP. If i use Physik i heal roughly 600HP. This isnt even 0,1% of my HP. The natural Health regen is probably better!
I stopped playing summoner at around lvl 50 pre-Endwalker, simply because I liked playing Scholar more. This guide is seriously a life saver for getting me back in and helping me figure out how the class has changed in the past year.
Just dropped by to say thank you for all your work, Wesk. You helped me a lot during Shadowbringers, and I still got you at Endwalker. I must say that, as an old SMN, I’m glad the job was simplified and now actually “feels” like a Summoner. Now new players are able to jump into my favorite FF class and not be intimidated by learning to play it competently. And while I must confess that a tiny part of me thinks they’ve gone a bit too far on the oversimplification, I’d rather attribute that feeling to just my own selfish pride at mastering the old 2 minute rotation and raiding savage and ultimate with it. This is new and could open up the job for future additions. I can’t wait to see where else the dev team can take me and my loyal Carby!
I want to thank you for this guide, it helped me a lot 👏🏾. I'm a returning player from BLM and wanted to try SMN.. this definitely helped. Thanks again 👍🏾.
Excellent video like always!! On patchday I was trying to figure it out and see if it really WAS that simple... and turns out it is! I really like how the job is more welcoming to new players, the opposite of how it was before. And seems to bild a pretty strong base for future expansions. Thank you again for the great job!
First off, I want to say thank you very much for this guide. I got the game on when it was re-sold recently and started out with Rogue/Nin and was having a pretty sad time since I am new to MMO games in general. Constantly tripping over myself and feeling quite useless and getting a small bit of flame for messing up. After I found your channel I settled on Summoner because of your guide and explanation of the comparative simplicity of the class early on. I practiced my rotations on dummies while copying your karaoke one and now I feel much more useful and happier playing. Not only am I doing way more damage but I am able to slowly start focusing on playing my role better, rather than just focusing on getting my combo perfect and working on stuff from your ABC DPS guide. Secondly, I wanted to ask a question about future content in-game. I have finished ARR now and have unlocked hard/extreme trials. I am sort of confused on how much knowledge I should have, should I be watched video guides on all the mechanics before each one? I am in a bit of a dilemma as on one hand, I feel I might reduce my own enjoyment by spoiling all the boss mechanics for myself and such the fun out of playing.... Yet on the other hand I am ruining the content for the other players if I go in a die constantly because I am clueless. I was hoping you could give some advice on what I should do. Thanks again, for saving me from a miserable beginning.
EX fights are not really doable blind typically, without a pre-made group. There's discords who do blind EX content and such for the old stuff. Queueing in DF gets you people all over the skill spectrum and all over the "willing to try" spectrum. Not everyone puts thought into EX. They don't care like you do, worrying about if they're playing a Job right or if they should look up guides. You'll also get mentors who either patiently try to help you clear and guide you to PF and unsynced, or mentors who immediately give up. Basically, going into DF for EX is not the best idea
Found this video from someone reccomending it in a reddit post about OP being lost on arcanist at low level. Between all the comments there and this video, I feel way more in control of what I am doing. This made it all click. Only level 10 right now so I am holding off to finish the rest as I go, but wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make this!
Thank you. Just coming back to the game, level 71 and just wrapping up the post-Stormblood story stuff and this is a huge help to know not only what to do now, but what to expect int he coming levels.
I'm excited for to see SAM, just playing it a little, it seems like the small changes of how you can get your buffs have massively changed the opener and rotation x3
this video was a huge help for me. I stopped playing eight months ago and didn't know my job changed so much. Thanks for helping me catch back up to speed
Great video! I just want to add a few endgame/hardcore optimization tips that almost always get overlooked --- 1. Phoenix's revelation has an VERY long delay. Assuming you have 6 gcds for phoenix, ALWAYS, always use revelation BEFORE the 5th, so no later than 5 seconds left on your phoenix timer. If you use it between 5th and 6th, you will ghost it and lose 1.3k potency (and you won't see damage animation either). 2. For 2.46/2.48 SMN, with pot, the most optimal rotation in raids is summon baha - searing - 1st baha gcd - pot - ... - titan - ... - garuda - emerald rite - swiftcasted slipstream, which I find slightly different from what is mentioned in the Balance. For later burst windows, use searing after first baha and swift a garuda slipstream right after titan.
These guides are incredible, I'll say this under every video if I have to! Super in depth but still very easy to follow and to understand. Amazing work!!
Trying the game for the first time tonight and found someone link your guides on reddit. Very informative and decided Summoner for my first go at the game. Simple and flashy? This noob will take it! Excellent video!
Just restarted this game for the first time since 2016. starting fresh an an arcanist to go to summoner and I’m almost level 30 and been playing a little lost but this guide has been very helpful so far with a good rotation and understanding so far of the job. Thank you
Omg I'm so glad you did an updated summoner guide! I use all of your guides and they help me so much no matter how old and outdated they might be at this point after endwalker. :'D
hey man great video. I have to say you for us, newer players, they are very very helpfull. i like the formatting of the video a great lot. abd i grow and learb the game and try jobs around, i end watching your videos to get the hang of the job. Thank you! I just picked up this critically acclaimed MMORPG and the Arcanist class was really confusing. This is my first MMOPRG so a solid guide like this is super helpful.
I honestly think if it wasn’t for your guides I wouldn’t have been interested enough to slog through the first 20 levels of this game but god I’m glad I did. I just started Heavensword and am about to hit 200 hundred hours, thank you for introducing me to and helping me stick with this amazing game. P.S I desperately need a Red Mage 1-90 guide I am embarrassing myself in dungeons.
gotta say since ive started ffxiv a few years ago ive been watching your content and guides love all of it and must say you have a great voice idk why i like it but i do and keep up the awesome videos!
Thanks so much for the vid! The only problem I have with SMN is that there's so many skills that are just evolved forms of previous skills that I wish the actual skill tooltips tell you which skill the latest skill used to be/which skill becomes another skill once you unlock the trait for it. It confused me a lot, making me question if I had all the skills on my hotbars or not and made me not understand the flow of skill procs. It was bc of that that it took me a while to understand what I was dealing with. But after a testing it during FATE grinding, I was surprised by how simple it was.
Very helpful and thorough guide. I cannot appreciate the addition of video sections to make navigating and going back to parts of the video a lot easier for future reference. SMN is deceptively simple yet flexible.
Hey man, my brain is as smooth as silk so I love using the new SMN. Plus I'm now practising MNK and if I didn't have a job like SMN to go back to and relax I'd probably lose my mind XD. Also I'm REALLY jonesing for your new MNK guide :D :D :D pretty please next? Of course anything you give us will rock. I've seen some guides on MNK that have been useful but really looking forward to yours.
@@WeskAlber You know, now that I look at the last several vids I remember thinking "I hope he makes summoner soon". Am I the only person that loves the new summoner so much that I want it to stay the same, but after Phoenix have Shiva, Ramuh, and Leviathan. Working the same, 2-4 attacks and one big enkindle attack. Just being selfish cause I think it'd be awesome to see. Anyone else?
@@cryw1092 maybe something similar, I haven't really thought about it, but have Ramuh replace Titan for example. The follow up be some quick lightning strikes or something. Leviathan drop like a whirlpool or something that does some damage over time or something. If they wanted to keep them feeling the same or change it up entirely. I think they'd keep some similarities just so it's not completely different, but just something thats been on my mind at least since seeing the changes made.
I miss pre-Endwalker Summoner. Most people seem to love the new skills, but I barely play Summoner nowadays. It was my #1 magic DPS in Stormblood and Shadowbringers, but the fun is gone for me.
I’m going to level it to 90 and the 100 at endwalker and never touch it again lol I’m so annoyed with the changes. SMN was my main pre endwalker. 😢 It is what it is though. Seems like the people who like it came from wow or want an easy class.

NGL--I actually like the fact this is way more simple now. There are plenty of over-complicated jobs in this game and to have a few simple ones for players with physical limitations or other issues is just fine.
This is so helpful! I leveled my scholar so I wouldn't have to level smn, and now I want to go back and learn it. It's was harder before the nerf with all the buttons, but now they've really simplified it. Yeah I agree personally this version of Summoner is so good. Summoner was my first level 80 in Shadowbringers and I can't get enough of it still, very well done imo 👍🏿
Exactly how I feel about the job, I love it so much! If I could dream about possible new summons I would KILL to summon a Bismarck.
@@SirGustav94 I gotta say, Bismarck has always been one of my favorites :D
Yeah I can't wait for Diamond Shiva, Amethyst Ramuh, and Aquamarine Leviathan after our Phoenix summonings in 7.0 XD
@randomguy8196 they were your big move in *some* other FFs, not all :)
As a SMN main, the most accurate description os SMN i have ever heard was "You want to have the mobility of a Ranged DPS with the DPS of a magic DPS"
And now its even more true :D
in regards to Enkindle, my guess is that you are supposed to be changing who you target with them in regards to aoe.
Yeah, you have to aim them differently for sure
Ruby Carby/Ifrit-Egi's Inferno is a bit weird, because it still targets like Titan's. It'll fire off the moment its target is within max range. You still wanna aim it towards the back.
Just run in the middle and pop off skills, don't even worry about enemy skills, that's what holy is for. (Jk)
Excellent guide! What I really like is that you don't spoil what spells and abilities we're going to get later on in the game. Essentially I can take my time leveling and come back to this guide when I've learnt a few more skills that I might need to add into the rotation.
First guide with a rotation spelled out in a way i could follow I've come across. Thanks heaps, liked, subbed ☺
I have to say, as a new player, you certainly have a knack for the best explanations around. Thanks so much
Doing God's work, Wesk.
I'm glad to see this little joke make it's return at 27:00, gave a good chuckle.
Great guide as always, thanks.
I feel better as a sprout learning of this.
Thank you so much.
i still love the "git gud, scrub" line.
you can tell which Carbuncle is my favorite based on my name.
THANK YOU I CAN FINALLY LEARN HOW TO USE MY MAIN AGAIN.
Ever since the job action trailer released I was looking forward to your reworked guide on this class
To give people an idea how ineffectic Physic is: My Summoner is currently Lvl90 with ilvl 622 and around 65k HP. If i use Physik i heal roughly 600HP. This isnt even 0,1% of my HP. The natural Health regen is probably better!
This is the best guide for rotation. Great work 💪🏼.
it feels like forever ago i found shadowbringers drg guide. these guides are really something else! keep up the great work!
I can't wait for the rest of the guides. Thank you kind sir for this lovely guide, I have been waiting for a new vid since endwalker was released.
I want to thank you for this guide, it helped me a lot 👏🏾. I'm a returning player from BLM and wanted to try SMN.. this definitely helped. Thanks again 👍🏾.
As a new player, I bascally owe all of my few hundred commendations to these guides.
Patiently waiting for the updated GNB guide so I can learn the new opener.
Great guide on Summoner!
Excellent video like always!! On patchday I was trying to figure it out and see if it really WAS that simple... and turns out it is! I really like how the job is more welcoming to new players, the opposite of how it was before. And seems to bild a pretty strong base for future expansions.
Thank you again for the great job!
Been waiting for this one. Your guides are super helpful man!
You are the best at skill guides!!! I love all your guises so much!
Great video! I just want to add a few endgame/hardcore optimization tips that almost always get overlooked ---
Amazing work!!
great job as always! thank you for the continued high quality!
These guides are the best on youtube thank you for the huge effort these must be!
Trying the game for the first time tonight and found someone link your guides on reddit. Very informative and decided Summoner for my first go at the game. Simple and flashy? This noob will take it! Excellent video!
This is a great guide I just miss old Summoner.
Just started to play summoner yesterday, this is perfect !
This is an amazing guide, I've been following along each time I get a new skill so I understand everything.
Thank you so much!
Just restarted this game for the first time since 2016. starting fresh an an arcanist to go to summoner and I’m almost level 30 and been playing a little lost but this guide has been very helpful so far with a good rotation and understanding so far of the job. Thank you
This video was so helpful, especially coming back to a level 41 summoner and having to relearn everything, thank you!
Im very much looking forward for you to update your 1-80 videos to their EW updated ones. keep up the good work
Just reached 90 thanks to your guide! Thank you for making this! 🌸
Thank you! I just picked up this critically acclaimed MMORPG and the Arcanist class was really confusing. This is my first MMOPRG so a solid guide like this is super helpful.
WOOOO, YEAAAAH BABY THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR, THATS WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT
I honestly think if it wasn’t for your guides I wouldn’t have been interested enough to slog through the first 20 levels of this game but god I’m glad I did. I just started Heavensword and am about to hit 200 hundred hours, thank you for introducing me to and helping me stick with this amazing game.
P.S I desperately need a Red Mage 1-90 guide I am embarrassing myself in dungeons.
no embarrassment haha most of us started just like that 😅
I’ve been working on it. I still don’t quite understand acceleration and I keep tripping over myself when switching from my aoe to my single target.
gotta say since ive started ffxiv a few years ago ive been watching your content and guides love all of it and must say you have a great voice idk why i like it but i do and keep up the awesome videos!
Man you are a machine! Thank you for the upload!
BRO THE 'u need to git gud' was so hilarious man, can really see the personality growth from shadowbringers, appreciate the guides, you help many
thanks!
i was looking at summoner as one of my next to level this weekend
Ever since I discovered your guides, I always specifically look for yours. Thanks for this! Can't wait for your new guide for astrologian 😄.
Oh man, thnaks so much for keeping these current. Best content for help on the net!
You are the guide master Wesk. Thank you man!
Thank You. I'm so glad you are making updated videos. Please keep the old ones too.
No intent to delete them
Thanks so much for the vid!
Having skills that get upgraded or are upgrades be labeled as such would be a nice quality of life thing.
Wow this has easily been the best guide I have seen for ffxiv! Do one for Ninja or Sam next!
Getting back into the game and this helped a TON, thank you!
Hun, this guide came out sooner than I thought.
Nice!
Nice the one guide i was waiting for thx for it :D
Loved it as always!! i now understand much better.. i was just pressing random cause it seem i could do no wrong lolz Thx man!!!!
Your guides are not only super informative and helpful but just entertaining, keep up the great work : D
Very helpful and thorough guide. I cannot appreciate the addition of video sections to make navigating and going back to parts of the video a lot easier for future reference. SMN is deceptively simple yet flexible.
Just joined and wanted to say love your guides man !
/pet size "small"
For your own sanity listen to what the man says. By God you need this.
Me finishing levelling Ninja and knowing it’s not the job for me.
“Summoner uses the same two buttons”
Me: Ahh. Perfection
This was great to learn rotation! Thanks so much!
I love your long form guides thank you
One downside about a Wesk Alber video is it's 45m and that's with 50m worth of content smashed into it. Quality as always.
Thank you!! Been hoping you would be able to put out EW guides...and super happy to see SMN is the first one. The carbi pet bar section is gold. =)
Summoner was the third
@@WeskAlber I am blind. 🤭
@@WeskAlber You know, now that I look at the last several vids I remember thinking "I hope he makes summoner soon". The husband and I are buying a condo in another state irl and even when doing other things, 90% of my brain power is still focused on it and allllllll the changes that will stem from it.
I've heard this suggestion a lot and I think it's a great one.
I'd have to wonder if their movesets would be different, or if they would simply be mirrors of the first three.
I think they'd keep some similarities just so it's not completely different, but just something thats been on my mind at least since seeing the changes made.
i leveled summoner from 80-86 today and I never had gemshine or astral flow on my hotbar... i feel kinda dumb. Thanks for the guide helped me a lot
42:10 Honestly. i really badly wanna see a mod that renames the "ifrits favor" buff to "HES ON FIRE", with "Crimson Cyclone" and "Crimson Strike" to "COME ON AND SLAM" and "AND WELCOME TO THE JAM" respectively. lol
Great vid-new to FF14 & this is so helpful!
My friend sent me this as theyve been helping me through arr msq and other content, and I feel a little silly with how much i dont know about this game still at nearly level 50. Gotta get stronger, for my bestie!
This is what we’ve been waiting for!
Thankyou this helps immensely
NGL--I actually like the fact this is way more simple now. There are plenty of over-complicated jobs in this game and to have a few simple ones for players with physical limitations or other issues is just fine.
Yeah, some jobs being simple is a good thing
Your videos help me so much! And I think you got a new mic and it sounds amazing!!
Same mic as I've had for about a year! Or whenever I got it. But yeah compared to the original SMN guide its a HUGE step up
I really like the starting song choices in this vid, considering what class is about.
This is so helpful! I leveled my scholar so I wouldn't have to level smn, and now I want to go back and learn it. It's was harder before the nerf with all the buttons, but now they've really simplified it.
The only thing I don't like is that I can't find cool glam. 😢
But i find that my energy drain keeps procing later and later.
Gotta say, the karaoke openers were a stroke of genius. They're fun and really drive home the timeframe these moves are being hammered out.
Great video, but only problem is that even at level cap, I'm still petting my carbuncle whenever I get a chance.
