One thing to note that I noticed in the video is that embolden only buffs your magic damage. At 46:52 it was mentioned oGCDs are buffed by embolden but they sadly are not since they're not considered magic damage.
I had read this was changed. It's always been super dumb that it was considered Piercing while still being based on magic stat so I believe it. Is it really still just Physical damage?
@@WeskAlber Seems to be physical still. Just checked my logs from the other day and the oGCDs like fleche, contre sixte, engagement and corps weren't buffed by embolden.

while corps-a-corps is a movement tool that only moves you near an enemy, displacement allows you to move any position within a 15-20y ring around any enemy target. it must be used smartly, but using it right can help you (pre)position for mechanics, dodge attacks, or enter melee with other targets without using corps-a-corps. movement and positioning is very versatile, so it can be utilized in many kinds of situations, but it needs to be the right time. if you're unsure, engagement's sideflip will suffice, i guess.
Thank you for the guide. Just finished 6 classes to Lv 60. Not sure which alt job to lvl next. And the notification bell brings me here. Cheers. Lot more exciting than the SUM
Now I want to make a Red Mage named Verluigi. A couple things I'd say to anyone looking to pick up RDM: To elaborate on Displacement/Engagement, think of Displacement purely as a positional skill, like Dragoon's Elusive Jump. It has its use, but you need to be careful, since careless use will disrupt or even kill you. Meanwhile, Engagement and Corps-a-corps (since you're already in melee) are free oGCD damage skills, and should be used as such. If you *really* want, you can keep one charge to have a Displacement if you need it, but in general Engagement is the reason you stay in melee range instead of jumping in and out whenever you have enough for the melee combo. Relatedly, don't try to get *too* flashy with it. The thought of the fencer dashing in and out for the melee combo is cool, but it's very easy to misjudge when you need to actually hit your Displacement to get out of range in time. Not that I'd know anything about dying to that. Not at all. Verraise is an incredible valuable asset to a team, but as any healer will tell you it sucks to blow your Swiftcast just for your other healer to beat you to it by a heartbeat. Communication is important. That said: you have an instant raise every three seconds instead of every minute, take advantage of that!
In reference to the "has its places" comment, back in ShB, I was always just hitting my mana cap to start my melee combos as the tank adds spawned in sos ex so saving a cor-a-cor charge in that kind of situation let me get a couple extra casts in before I'd lunge in for the stack I'd need to share with my healer/ranged dps partner

BRB going to watch all your guides when starting a class at level 50, I love that the openers have "good habits" like uneven mana built in for later levels.
Another tip I found out in Bozja for verraise is you can verheal into dualcast as well, that way you can always dualcast verraise even iff you don’t currently have a target

I've wanted to play remake since starting but never felt like I did enough damage while doing the msq (would die in situations I would easily pass with ninja) I'm excited to give the class another shot thanks to this guide.
important: enchanted riposte and enchanted zwerchau is 1.5s recast. i can't weave fleche or contre and will overcap the gcd. according to ACT i will consistently do less damage if i try to weave there. so check if your ping allows you to weave there. the thing about rdm, it's very flexible. you can adjust anything as you like. i also play mch, but i have to weave there whether i like it or not. nin's mudra can't weave as well. in the video, lv60 and 70 opener, wesk's 1.5s perfect didn't overcap. the 90 opener is slightly over but not too bad. mine is worse. look at the hotbar rolling. if you're in casual content and no countdown you can acceleration pre pull. you don't have to use acceleration on cooldown. keep it for when there is no proc.
something I started doing to try and get more stone and fire procs, is using thunder and aero opposite from whichever spell proc I picked first. It works pretty well imo
one high skill play i want to mention, is that on your 2nd and beyond embolden, you can fit in 1 1/2 melee > finisher combo under full embolden. at 90 you need to cast embolden when you have verflare or verholy available, and then once you hit resolution, you've got to hit manafication and try your best to get the the whole combo in ( the full combo at 90 is 12.7s, the 3 finishers alone is 7.5s, but you can just barely make it if you ABC ) this also results in Embolden and Manafication coming off CD at the same time, so i have a feeling this is what the devs want us to see too.
An important thing to note that I learned recently. If for some reason you need to sprint in the middle of your spell casts, activating Sprint erases your active Dualcast buff
TIL: Enchanted Reprise has a 25y range. I never thoroughly read the tooltip because I never use Enchanted Reprise. Good to know, though. Although I'm a healer main, RDM is by far my favorite caster. Nothing beats firing off a flashy (pun intended) LB3 and blinding the raid along the way 😆
I'm only at heavensword at the moment, but i was pretty pleased with myself when i was maintaining 2nd or 3rd aggro during alliance dungeons. Red mage is my main overworld class because i love the flexibility it gives me. I figured i would take Blackmage into my dungeons and alliance dungeons, and was so grumpy when i struggled to get anything past 5th place aggro. Not sure if it's just me being bad at BM or if they just get better in later levels, since they're damage is supposed to be better.
Late reply but BLM damage honestly just sucks until you get Fire 4. A large part of that is because your best damage is locked behind a random Fire 3 proc. Another is that your casts constantly get interrupted due to people killing your target quicker than you can cast anything. Shadowbringers content is really when a well played Black Mage can consistently place in the upper end of the party.
Feel like a birthday here when I start to level up my alt job the RDM guide popped-up where I was struggle about it I got the feeling that I understand the concept, only if I set the hotbar and keybind right, I would mess the rotation a lot less
I love you took the extra effort to pronounce the names of the abilities like they should ^^ for the record, Zwerchhau sounds like zwairch-how, it's German if that helps for any possible future videos. Verlove the content, keep them vercoming.
Great video as always. A question to you and all RDM mains. Any advice for keeping dualcast in your head? Its the only part of the toolkit that I always struggle with. Ive wasted so much time using the instant on jolt then find myself hardcasting the longer spells.
I think of 1-2 / 1-2 -> jolt-veraero / jolt-verthunder. If verstone or verfire procs 1 would be any of those and 2 would be veraero or verthunder. 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 forever.
Try making your buff UI enormous, like literally huge and put it somewhere you can see really well. Then get into the habit of looking for the buff before you longcast. That helped me. When you have the muscle memory down, you can shrink it back down / move it out of the way :)
What I do is keep veraero/stone and verthunder/fire on two different sides of Jolt. That way, I'm physically moving my hand back and forth as I play and it makes it natural to stay in a flow. edit: different sides of the hotbar
If you have a Verstone proc, and use Veraero, you will get another proc. But you can only hold one Verstone proc at a time. So you overwrite and lose the first one, if you do not spend it first
@@WeskAlber Ah gotcha, thanks a lot for explaining! Got back into the game after 2 years and your vids have been helping a ton in my transition getting back into things.
Ah yes, the spell ever: VerStoIre. I know it's just because it's proc dependent but it made me chuckle. Edit: Also something about the way you pronounce Redoublement is so chef's kiss. But maybe it's because I always pronounced it the very American way.
While vercure is very situational, I have gotten great mileage out of it during p10s, using it to save fellow dps from bleed damage while healers are forced out of range (if anyone knows p10s you know what section I’m talking about) Edit: I’ve also found great use for displacement in the same fight, using the backflip to soak a tower. Not to mention enchanted reprise for spending mana to avoid over capping with manafication. This is doubly important since overcapping both mana automatically balances them, getting rid of intentional imbalance for the finisher
FYI, "Zwerchhau" is faux german, as opposed to almost all the other RDM abilities being based on french, roughly translating to either "split in two" or "dwarf strike" (as in "strike a dwarf", not "dwarf's strike") realistically, it is probably the first one the pronounciation would be closer to "Zwergh How"
I like that dwarf theory, but a Zwerchhau is a real-life sword fighting move (like most of RDM's melee kit names)! It's actual German too, just old German. And you're right, the first translation is the correct one. A zwerchhau receives a vertical strike, and returns a horizontal one 'across' (zwerch) the opponent.
Can someone please help me? Around 36:05 at the level 70 rotation I'm following the video to a t and the melee combo falls off right after I use Fleche. The other Zwe and Redoublement both lose their enhanced versions. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. What am I missing?
@@WeskAlber okay I figured out what I was doing wrong. One last question. What combo should I be doing while I'm waiting for Embolden and Manafication to cool down? Sorry it's been over a year since I've played.
Tnx so much I was so confused ❤. Just started yesterday and I wasn't sure how to proc Dual Cast even after reading the description. I keep expecting a proc to appear like BLM on my Wind and Thunder. The instant cast for the second cast makes it hard to see that I casted it :(.
Thanks a lot man ! i was the one that popped into your stream this week and was confused about wich job to do the MSQ with. Since i'm having the best time ever with RDM, and with your guide now, i can correct the mistakes i've been making and keep going until 90. Thanks a lot for your guides and for the trouble of making them. I know it's hard. BTW msq today gives so much exp that i'm leveling both DRG and RDM doing only them (alternating the jobs between the obligatory DG's) and i'm almost at the same level range with a 3 class (MCH). At least until now (i'm on heavensward right now). When you're going to do the DRG one ? have any agenda for them ? Again, thanks a lot.
vercure and dual cast: it works of course on itself too but the occasion to vercure+vercure (2nd is instant) is more rare than vercure itself. but you could throw a heal to 2 targets this way.
my primary use of vercure is to guarantee a dualcast proc for verraise. it's super annoying when your damaging short cast spell fizzles for targeting reasons, like the boss jumps away or out. If i still haven't figured out the fight, i might even default to it until I see the flow of battle and know I can still damage the boss
Is it good to use jolt then follow up with Verthunder/Veraero?. Sprout here 😊. Because i always use jolt then follow up with verthunder/veraero. I never use long cast first.
i say that in the video during Dualcast. Shortcast to proc, then longcast to spend. I also explain why Verthunder is first in openers, it's because the pull hasn't started yet.
there is one thing i dont understand! why the lack of using jolt? i get that sticking to verthunder/aero increases the chanses for proc. but hey still have close to 5sec cast time! while jolt is close to 2sec. So why will it not be better overall to cast jolt and use dual cast for verthunder/aero vs only using verthunder/aero?
@@WeskAlber i maybe missunderstand somthing. But during your explaination during jolt 2 and enhanced jolt you say thats a skill to avoided because procs are better.
@@pausnplay No I don't. I say "Jolt II is STILL the skill you want to avoid using at all costs. Remember, procs are better." Not Thunder/Aero, the procs
I'm just saying but I think Waluigi was in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. You could indeed have Waluigi fighting with a foil. I was using some sort of cobbled together opener, but this looks smart. Can't wait to try it in a real fight. Just 3 hrs till I get my acc back...
I can VerClearly see why they went with "Spell, Spell 2, Spell 3" instead of "Spell, Spellra, Spellga" here. "VerThundaga" and "VerAeroga" would definitely be very awkward to say, and figuring out that "VerThunder, VerThundara, VerThundaga" isn't a straightline progression would make things unreasonably complicated.
How's this guide? It's very good. How do RDM cast spell? verbally of course. What's RDM glam fasion style? versace. What's RDM LB3? Vermillion scourge aka Verwipe. With white and black magick RDM is versatile mage.
manafication says all combos are cancelled upon use, does this mean i cant pop it like half way through my melle combo ? i tested it and im still going enchanted melle but the bars aint flashing like they normally would so ?
8:20 In Shadowbringers a 30 Mana Difference was still considered Balanced. Only a 31 or more difference mattered. Did they Change that in EW or is this a mistake in the script?
I should have said "more than 30." It's a difference that doesn't mean much since an imbalance that large signifies some really big flaws in your rotation as a whole.
I hope RDM gets it's ups soon. nothing has changed since 6.0, no buffs, no changes, the dps of the job continues to fall behind with summoner, and the job has glaring optimal opener problems. - make verfire/stone ready a stackable buff, up to 2 each. - buff accell somehow, it's both a movment tool, and a rotation tool, idk exactly what we need from it, just another charge? making 2 spells after use instant cast? a trait that reduces it's cooldown when using certain actions or spending dualcast?
So, with the openers you presented, what happens if you get a proc on either your pre-pull verthunder cast or on your swiftcasted verthunder? Wouldn't that be a "waste" of the acceleration proc? Also, during the downtime between 2-minute burst windows, would you recommend holding off on enchanted melee combos to line up with 1-minute party buff windows (assuming you don't overcap gauge), or to go right into melee as soon as you hit 50/50?
It would not because you're gaining DPS with skills under party buffs. And because it's not guaranteed, it's worth doing normally. Yes, try and align with 60s buffs if possible.
If you're not in danger of overcapping, you should hold onto mana for combos within the buff window. They're stronger than spamming normal spells. For maximum efficiency you might even want to start the combo a bit earlier, so you can get more of the finishers in your party buff window. Like melee > melee > melee > embolden, so you get verholy/verflare or even just Resolution to fit in a 2nd Resolution under the buffs depending on how long they are I don't know the exact durations, so someone can correct me if it's better to get Verholy/Flare under the buffs or only Resolution, as combo might be too long to fit in 2 Resolutions in a normal buff window otherwise.
Hi i been having a lot of fun playing red mage on controller but there is one thing that bothers me, when a party member dies you cant target them to verraise them, i looked everywhere for an option to be able to cycle through dead party member but havent found it, is there a macro for this spell so i can cast it to the closest dead player or something?
There is no such thing as emergency movement like that. You'd either be min-maxing uptime with melee combos - less an emergency and more planned greeding - or something you could just hit W for. Understanding patterns and greeding are different skill tools to learn imo
I still fail to understand why the movement abilities are AFTER the melee combo? As RDM is a ranged magic dps? Are we supposed to walk in melee to get the combo going? Or use a corps at corps before the melee combo? Feels a bit clunky to just walk over to the boss compare to the previous corp a corp- melee combo- and the back flip out of there before VerHoly/Flare-Scorch
There is 0 reason to not be in melee range, and with Dualcast you have tons of walking time. You should always be in melee range anyway. There is no such thing as "being far away" as a good idea The movement tools are last because they do the least damage. As such, are the least important.
@@WeskAlber I see...that definitely something to adjust too as I’m still used to the hold build up then go in go out. But thank you for the guides I've seen them all, and they've helped a lot!
You forgot Impact. The change of Scatter II to impact gives us a nice added Cleave tool. At 2 targets using Jolt II -> Impact becomes the new best rotation
Can you build a Level 50 60 70 80 90 Cross hotbar for controller players that will be easy to use? Personally I am working on the ARR Class hotbars with moderate Success.
Hey Wesk, I have a suggestion when it comes to the karaoke openers. For gcds you should say their names at a set speed, even if it cuts you off, signifying the ogcd truly is that fast. As of now, it all sounds like the same kind of jumbled mess when you say the full name anyway and I believe defeats the purpose of contrasting it with the normal opener. Love the guides

Although I'm a healer main, RDM is by far my favorite caster. Nothing beats firing off a flashy (pun intended) LB3 and blinding the raid along the way 😆
As a red mage player:
Wah.
To add to this, RDM overperforms at lower levels. I think its just naturally higher potencies, plus having a full finisher by 50.
I like that you spent 10 minutes repeating yourself about vecure
Versk flexing with the TEA weapons to dab on us verpeasants.
Feel like a birthday here when I start to level up my alt job the RDM guide popped-up where I was struggle about it
I got the feeling that I understand the concept, only if I set the hotbar and keybind right, I would mess the rotation a lot less
JUST IN TIME MY DUDE I LOVE YOUR VIDS! YOU ARE A TRUE CHAD!
I love you took the extra effort to pronounce the names of the abilities like they should ^^ for the record, Zwerchhau sounds like zwairch-how, it's German if that helps for any possible future videos. Verlove the content, keep them vercoming.
Great explanation...earned a sub. Thanks!
Great video as always. A question to you and all RDM mains. Any advice for keeping dualcast in your head? Its the only part of the toolkit that I always struggle with. Ive wasted so much time using the instant on jolt then find myself hardcasting the longer spells.
Personally it's just something I started with internalized. Maybe think of it as combos?
I think of 1-2 / 1-2 -> jolt-veraero / jolt-verthunder. If verstone or verfire procs 1 would be any of those and 2 would be veraero or verthunder. 1-2, 1-2, 1-2 forever.
Can someone explain again what he meant when he was talking about not overwriting procs at 7:55? Ty!
Leveled samurai and machinist to 90 red mage is by far my favorite dps im leveling so far it looks cool as hell.
Best guides. Thank you so much!
Ah yes, the spell ever: VerStoIre.
I know it's just because it's proc dependent but it made me chuckle.
Edit: Also something about the way you pronounce Redoublement is so chef's kiss. But maybe it's because I always pronounced it the very American way.
While vercure is very situational, I have gotten great mileage out of it during p10s, using it to save fellow dps from bleed damage while healers are forced out of range (if anyone knows p10s you know what section I’m talking about)
Edit: I’ve also found great use for displacement in the same fight, using the backflip to soak a tower. Not to mention enchanted reprise for spending mana to avoid over capping with manafication. This is doubly important since overcapping both mana automatically balances them, getting rid of intentional imbalance for the finisher
FYI, "Zwerchhau" is faux german, as opposed to almost all the other RDM abilities being based on french, roughly translating to either "split in two" or "dwarf strike" (as in "strike a dwarf", not "dwarf's strike")
realistically, it is probably the first one
the pronounciation would be closer to "Zwergh How"
I like that dwarf theory, but a Zwerchhau is a real-life sword fighting move (like most of RDM's melee kit names)! It's actual German too, just old German. And you're right, the first translation is the correct one. A zwerchhau receives a vertical strike, and returns a horizontal one 'across' (zwerch) the opponent.
Best guides ever
Verthanks for the vervideo!
This is great - Thank you!
Can someone please help me? Around 36:05 at the level 70 rotation I'm following the video to a t and the melee combo falls off right after I use Fleche. The other Zwe and Redoublement both lose their enhanced versions. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. What am I missing?
If they're losing the enhanced versions, its because you ran out of Mana. Did you have 50/50 before starting the melee?
@@WeskAlber I do not. I was 27/60. If I'm following the video how is my mana off that far?
Manafication alone should give you 50 mana
@@WeskAlber okay I figured out what I was doing wrong. One last question. What combo should I be doing while I'm waiting for Embolden and Manafication to cool down? Sorry it's been over a year since I've played.
Short cast > Long Cast
That Karaoke rotation makes me laugh because of how fast you're saying it XD
It would be cool that it was encoraged to reach invalance in some conditional situations, to add a layer of decision taking
Definitely great when solo/duo-ing content though!
@@KZorander an opportunity i think of is the lvl 60 class quest vs. Lambard. you may not survive without vercure
my primary use of vercure is to guarantee a dualcast proc for verraise.
it's super annoying when your damaging short cast spell fizzles for targeting reasons, like the boss jumps away or out.
I also explain why Verthunder is first in openers, it's because the pull hasn't started yet.
i always love your voice and explaination
It's going to take me until the next expansion to get used to your Endwalker video intro after watching so many of your Shadowbringer videos.
there is one thing i dont understand! why the lack of using jolt? i get that sticking to verthunder/aero increases the chanses for proc. but hey still have close to 5sec cast time! while jolt is close to 2sec. So why will it not be better overall to cast jolt and use dual cast for verthunder/aero vs only using verthunder/aero?
Do you have a time stamp because I do say to use Jolt
@@WeskAlber i maybe missunderstand somthing. But during your explaination during jolt 2 and enhanced jolt you say thats a skill to avoided because procs are better.
@@pausnplay Verthunder and Veraero are not procs. Verstone and Verfire are
@@WeskAlber yes i know. what im saying. at 31:17 you say jolt 2 is a skill to be avoided at all cost
@@pausnplay No I don't. I say
"Jolt II is STILL the skill you want to avoid using at all costs. Remember, procs are better."
Not Thunder/Aero, the procs
I'm just saying but I think Waluigi was in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. You could indeed have Waluigi fighting with a foil.
I was using some sort of cobbled together opener, but this looks smart. Can't wait to try it in a real fight. Just 3 hrs till I get my acc back...
'verthunder, verthunder' verthundercats hoo!
I came here mainly for reasoning to use E. Reprise 😅😂
I never use it. Had absolutely no idea it's range increases from 3y to 25y.
Thank you so much.
Sweet! One of my two favorite jobs in the game.
Best job in the game!
Great guide... I'm new to the game. May I know why use Swiftcast into acceleration on rotation?
It's for double stacking procs.
manafication says all combos are cancelled upon use, does this mean i cant pop it like half way through my melle combo ? i tested it and im still going enchanted melle but the bars aint flashing like they normally would so ?
You have to use before
[Souls Voice]
VERy good~
This is hilarious and you're all cowards.
@@WeskAlber Point taken. You almost have to try to get to this point.
Like melee > melee > melee > embolden, so you get verholy/verflare or even just Resolution to fit in a 2nd Resolution under the buffs depending on how long they are
I don't know the exact durations, so someone can correct me if it's better to get Verholy/Flare under the buffs or only Resolution, as combo might be too long to fit in 2 Resolutions in a normal buff window otherwise.
Glad you're pronouncing "Redoublement" properly now lol
Hi i been having a lot of fun playing red mage on controller but there is one thing that bothers me, when a party member dies you cant target them to verraise them, i looked everywhere for an option to be able to cycle through dead party member but havent found it, is there a macro for this spell so i can cast it to the closest dead player or something?
There is not. You can select party members in the list with D-Pad pretty sure
Shouldt u keep a charge of corp à corp and engagement for emergencie mouvement ?
There is no such thing as emergency movement like that. You'd either be min-maxing uptime with melee combos - less an emergency and more planned greeding - or something you could just hit W for.
Understanding patterns and greeding are different skill tools to learn imo
Question. Dual cast does not proc from a spell insta-cast from Swiftcast. Is this true of a spell insta-cast from Acceleration?
Yes, Accel counts as the Dualcast
I still fail to understand why the movement abilities are AFTER the melee combo? As RDM is a ranged magic dps? Are we supposed to walk in melee to get the combo going? Or use a corps at corps before the melee combo? Feels a bit clunky to just walk over to the boss compare to the previous corp a corp- melee combo- and the back flip out of there before VerHoly/Flare-Scorch
There is 0 reason to not be in melee range, and with Dualcast you have tons of walking time. You should always be in melee range anyway. There is no such thing as "being far away" as a good idea
The movement tools are last because they do the least damage. As such, are the least important.
@@WeskAlber I see...that definitely something to adjust too as I’m still used to the hold build up then go in go out. But thank you for the guides I've seen them all, and they've helped a lot!
Huh. Never realized Acceleration boosts Scatter. Good to know
Yes! Finally!
Finally Red Mage!!!
What's a Redmage's favorite clothing brand?
Versace
how do you have multiple x-bars? trying to replicate your UI
Crossbar section. Always display WXHB
You forgot Impact.
The change of Scatter II to impact gives us a nice added Cleave tool. At 2 targets using Jolt II -> Impact becomes the new best rotation
L66. Scatter Mastery and Impact: 33:26
What exactly does Embolden NOT buff? i see people saying that it buffs the enchanted melee combo, but they're still counted as weaponskills.
They are still counted as magic damage because Enchanted
Can you build a Level 50 60 70 80 90 Cross hotbar for controller players that will be easy to use? Personally I am working on the ARR Class hotbars with moderate Success.
I don't play controller, and I emphasize that hotbars are a personal thing. I do plan to learn controller later
What I think you're trying to say is:
Say GCDs slowly
Say oGCDs fast
I got that right?
@@WeskAlber yeah, gcds fitting within the 2.5 second window, but ogcds cutting you off and those names said in full
Will try it out with the next video and see if it works well
@@WeskAlber 👍
Is it me or Resolution looks somewhat like the Special Beam Cannon?🤔
As a red mage main I always do my opener regaurdless if a tank does a count down ... It's just good muscle memory I guess
Is the second Verthunder on the 60 opening supposed to be a normal GCD or a Dualcast GCD? I'm guessing dual?
Listen closer. It's not a Dualcast, it's an Acceleration
