Jenny, I always make beautiful hydrangea wreaths when I cut back the blooms...simply stick the blooms into a grapevine wreath form, really make it full. They dry beautifully.

Jenny, you’re the best! Today you mentioned fertilizing this way because you “can’t get it together” to do water-soluble fertilizer. I love that you know yourself as a gardener as much as being a student of your garden itself. If you know that one method will not work for your lifestyle, find another method to make your plants happy. That’s much more peaceful than continually struggling/stressing to do that one method. Thank you for the reminder!

Hello from London UK dear Jenny 😃 I have discovered your beautiful nursery through the videos of Kim from Backyard Blooms with Kim that I am a huge fan of and only now realised that you had a YT channel. I can just imagine how happy you would be right now in London UK as we are still waiting for summer to arrive with temperatures reaching a "staggering" 66o Fahrenheit at the warmest part of the day 😅. Cutting off the magnificent blooms of your hydrangeas is indeed a brave move but I will be interested to see this Fall second flush to happen. I agree that sometimes gardening is about making bold moves for the sake of the plant and its blossoming. I am trying to keep up with my water soluble fertiliser schedule but it is indeed quite a commitment. I am loving your detailed explanations and will happily be following your new videos. Happy Sunday 😊💚

Hi Jenny: It was fun watching your video and to see your beautiful annabelle, lavendar, and now will be reminded to occasionally top-dress some plants that are looking like they need some food. Many people comment on seeing good results from Land & Sea. Spent four hours in the garden today starting at 7:00am and humidity wasn't as high as it sometimes is. Watered, mulched, & sprayed weeds that are coming up through the gravel in the driveway and we do need to put more down so will ask landscapers to do the job! I am going to wind up mulching & Noah & crew can put down landscape fabric on the area that winds around the left hand side of the house. All in all a very good day and hope yours was too and you'll have an even better evening! Your gardens always look so beautiful and well maintained.

I’m in zone 5 and usually prune my hydrangeas back around late July due to Japanese beetle damage, and they always rebloom. My growing season is shorter than yours, so I don’t get to see the second flush at it’s peak, but they still show out for me! I’m sure your smooth hydrangea will do the same.

A couple of weeks ago, I pruned my mini mauvette that I got from Creekside 3 years ago. I'm already stsrting to get a tiny bit of new blooms. Mauvette definitely lives up to the the sleep, creep, leap. This year, I was close to changing it out for something else but then a few weeks later it was like wow, how gorgeous. BTW, do you still have annuals? I have a few pots that I need to get finished.

Great video on pruning the hydrangeas. Now can you please address whether to do the same to limelight hydrangea standards and Pinky Winky standards that have been battered by our crazy southern rains in Zone 8A? If the standards are pruned now will they have time to reflush and be beautiful for the Fall season and maybe maybe have a tinge of the pink that our northern friends see on their panicles? Only the standards are flopping in our garden while the bushes have held up well. Thanks for the info and maybe a video to come. Stay cool during these 97 degree days that seem to be the norm this summer.

I just pruned back my angelonia a few days ago! Do you re-fertilize any other perennials in mid summer besides those particular hydrangeas? I thought you had mentioned in another video mid summer is about the time to apply a 2nd round of the PW Continuous Release. Is this just for annuals or for flowering perennials as well? Really enjoying your videos! I've had a few flower casualties this week which really makes me sad. Spider Mites caused the premature death of 2 of my annual verbena. I have 4 Homestead Purple Verbenas in a different bed and 3 look amazing but one looks like it's dying. Can't find any evidence of bugs. Thinking our irrigation wasn't providing enough water for it and I didn't catch it. I pruned it slightly, watered it and prayed over it (lol) hoping it will recover.

I know it's good for them but I just don't have the heart to cut all the blooms off my incrediball when it's looking so good lol. The most I can do is cut off the browning blooms. I may have missed it (kids were fighting lol) but how to you prune your hardy hibiscus to keep it blooming? Each evening I go out and cut off the old wilted blooms so that in the morning it has fresh new blooms. I don't know if that's the right thing to do or not. I mainly do it because I don't like the look of the wilted blooms and fallen wilted blooms on the ground.

After our last heavy rain my 3 limelight standard trees completely fell apart. They are four years old now with long stems and huge blooms. Some of the stems broke off due to the weight. Should I just go in and cut out several branches to lighten it up, and if so do I prune back drastically? I have tried to stake some of the branches but they are all crossing and very heavy, even though I pruned out crossing limbs and spindly branches in late winter. Not sure how I should prune next Spring to prevent flopping to this extent. Any advice will be so appreciated!
