- It's that time in the season when the deck box garden needs a strong pruning. It may seem severe but the results will be fabulous!

I didn’t have any of the information you provide on caring for your plants 30 years ago. I learned all of these things on my own by just trial and error. I bought all kinds of gardening books, and the information I needed was sparse. I live in zone 5B, and most of your care advice doesn’t differ from your zone 7. Any beginner watching should take this woman’s knowledge and apply it. You will be years ahead of gaining the experience necessary to be a successful gardener. 👩🌾
Thank you for showing the before and after pictures from last year. You inspired me to just do it! Agh! I gave my annuals a good cut back!
I followed your instructions on wacking as you saying my containers of petunias was afraid but they have just blown up and beautiful! Jenny you are the best !!!❤
Love this, it's always amazing to see how quickly annuals rebound from a trimming. Cannot wait to see the update
You and me both!
I scalped a giant pot of petunias and verbena..left nothing but stems and leaves and fed them, and wow, the second bloom was deeper colored and a more rounded pretty shape than the original bloom.
Gosh jenny, this is so satisfying to watch, I just love it when you whack things back. You are just the best!,,,,
The after of that deck box cut back looked great!!!! They were a bit wild at start🤣. Looking forward to what they look like in two weeks they’ll be beautiful.
Jenny, this is wild, such a big lesson for me. I’ve never been big on pruning mostly because we get so dang hot in August. I figured I had to just let those raggedy plants go. But we have a long growing season too so this is really helpful to understand how to get the most out of even the annuals. Thank you!
I just gave my petunias a second haircut yesterday! I’m from Indiana and I’ve never had to do it twice in a season before! Fingers crossed they bounce back as well as the first haircut! Can’t wait to see updates on these! It’s so satisfying! 🌸
I been giving my plants a severe prune over the last week. Things had gone wild! 😂
Tell me about it! With all of the rain we've been getting (not complaining one bit!) and the toasty temperatures things are incredibly lush (aka wild) around here!
I think next year you should do vermillionair and Salvia, catmint, foxglove. Just have a complete hummingbird buffet. The entertainment factor would be a bonus. Some fushia and superbells in baskets. Big fun. Then you wouldn't have to fill the feeder at all.
I saw the hummingbirds flitting around. Just so satisfying to watch you prune.
Everything looks so fresh & clean!
Finally got to sit down and watch this video. Thanks as always! I am going out to give my babies a haircut!
I see beautiful Brenna !!!!
Love when you do this! Standing there for a long time hand pruning in the muggy hot weather, not fun.
You nailed that! I live in Louisiana & I'm 63. It's tough being outside very long.
Love to watch a good annual punning video. 😊
Everything looks so lush and green, the lawn and trees, sooo beautiful !!!
We’ve had so much rain lately!!!! It rarely looks like this in August 😁
Hello, Jenny❤. Call me “woopsy” but I get so much satisfaction whacking back overgrowth in my garden. I’ve followed your lead and the results have been more than stellar!! Thank you sooo much for continuing garden education ❤! Love and Blessings!
Thanks, I need to do this too. Great information.
I love that you show each year how and when to do this. Last year I did this with my petunias and they came back so pretty. Going to work on that today!
That’s awesome to hear! Happy pruning 😁
I have plated all impatiens and let me tell you they do amazing, so so much colour! Not trimming no dead heading!
I love watching you do this each year. LOL! So pretty when it grows back!
Hi Jenny I just did some trimming today. Always great to get some tips from you.
Anxious to see the update!
Good Morning Jenny.
Great info, Jenny, thank you!
You inspired me. I got out and did the clean up that my back yard has been needing!
Yay❣️
Good morning Jenny! Love watching you from Louisiana.
Thank you so much!
❤ Good Garden Morning !
Looks great
Good morning, Jenny☕️ Have a Blessed Day😊🐶
You too!!
Wow!
Good Morning GWC Family! 😊
Good morning!
How is the bottom of the boxes made? I want my husband to make me one on the side of our back deck. I dont know what to put on the bottom for proper drainage. Always love your videos. Yall inspire me. And I appreciate how real you are.
The bottom is made from pressure treated plywood with drain holes drilled into it
Hi Jenny, love your content, amazing gardens! What’s the candle you love from laurel mercantile, can you please share again, thanks!
I love them all!!! But the one that smells like tea olives is "Laurel", but some more of my favorites are "Tudor", "8th Avenue", "Chapter 7", "Goodnight Irene", "Garden Mint" - she has so many great scents!
@@GardeningwithCreekside thanks! With ❤️ from Brooklyn, NY. You’re a huge inspiration, and I dream of a garden like yours some day!
...I trimmed my supertunias a few weeks ago -- no more than 4 -- and they need trimmed AGAIN, I see... In MD, we are in for a rainy week, and me-thinks I should try to give them a quick trim, as the rain'll do a number on 'em. Your timing was good for the deck boxes, with Debby making her way up the coast from FL. They'd've been a flopped mess!

Love this video! If I had deck boxes the rabbits around here would slap up a ladder and clean off the plants for me! Lol. I have replanted a Bordeax petunia 2 or 3 times in a bed way out at the road end of my driveway and stinkin bunnies have eaten it to the ground every time, meanwhile leaving the rest of the bed alone. Go figure. I can send a few bunnies your way if you're running low on them 😂 but you'd probly ban me from watching your videos. Happy Saturday to you and your family from hot and humid central Pa!❤
Lovely
Painful scary but wow 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💪!!
Hi 👋 Jenny
Should I prune my panicle hydrangeas now? They were planted a mo ago, yes I'm babying 😊. Lol blooms are looking old.
You can if you want to, but you can also wait and do it in late winter. It's your garden and you get to choose 🥰
What is the best way to keep your Super Bells and Supertunias from dying on the underside in a hanging basket or a container. I like to have them trailing over but then the underside turns brown. I do fertilize weekly and water daily with the heat. Also, I am in zone 8a as well. Just curious as I cannot find an answer on the internet. Love your videos.
Okay so a month ago i gave my super tunias a good pruning. They really flushed out. Doing it again today. Would love for them to carry through October. Wishful thinking?
Is there some kind of liner inside the wood boxes?
