In HS he was an all state QB too and unlike Bryce Young I believe homeboy could have handled the NFL punishment. The " practice" interview was the iconic bit of the 2000's. The current science confirms that stretching before exercise is not necessary. And the importance of rest for players who play a lot of minutes during the season is understood now, especially for 7 footers who put more stress on their joints like Shaq.
    So the irony is that AI and Shaq were right, and the expert opinion and old school coaching in the 90s was wrong.

    • @jakestine4753
      @jakestine4753 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Stretching prior to warm ups is actually dangerous. Warming up is important. Don't just jump into sprints. Walk around a bit, get your heart rate up, THEN hit the sprints. Stretching? Only positive effect it has is help get your heart rate up, same as walking or light shoot-around. Stretching has no other benefit, and has risks because it can cause small tears in the muscle fibers that don't have a chance to heal before gametime.
      The ONLY good time to do stretching is AFTER the game - when your goal is to break up muscle scar tissues and generate blood flow to clear away lactic acids to aid in the recovery process.

    Goes to show those guys just went out to play natural. I was always beat up from practice, I thought it was stupid in High School. We did 2 hour practices 5 days a week and I would drop 10 pounds in water weight every night in 2 hours.

    That’s why their playing career was shorter…while steph still top 5 at the age of 35…..

      AIs game was predicated on speed to make up for being small and playing in a more physical era. Totally different key to greatness and era as Steph

    I don't understand how someone so smart as Shaq can be so ignorant about food.

    Let them do it and these GMs, and Coaches will have literally slaving for your Million Dollars Worth of Fame. I don't blame Shaq or A.I. for their decision.

    The bigger reality is that the way coaches run practice IS overrated. They ruin more talent than they develop

    no doubt that Shaq was one of the most dominate big men ever, but how much better would he have been if he simply had a different attitude about being in great shape and practice? he would be in the GOAT conversations.. but I guess that wasn't important to him and you can't put your expectations on others but I just see the potential that was never realized because of a contented perspective.
