People in power protect other people in power unless they want to get rid of them. There is a different set of competencies that are valued among the elite. Beneath the pleasant exterior, it is a feudal system that maximizes rewards for a few elite who already hog resources, with no remorse for the consequences to the many.

Companies want good slaves who are married/have kids. After about 20 years working, I'll tell young people you should not have any loyalty to any organization, they will turn on you in a second when its convenient and fire/replace you. Also to ensure no slavery, young people dont get married and dont get a girl pregnant, make sure she takes the birth control pill daily in front of you and both wear protection. You will just condemn your new child to increasing poverty and freedomless slavery and these control/money/job trends worsen. Promote this idea in videos and social media to help prevent more young people into this new slavery.

That's a good point. We should all get to know the labor laws in our particular country/state/province. Many people are being exploited more than they need to be, because they don't know the laws made to protect them, and the companies sure as hell aren't going to educate us.

"hungrier/hungry" is a new corporate meme. Why do they think being hungry is good? But the goal of work is ultimately to get food so that you are no longer hungry. If you are still hungry after working, technically that means you have failed. Why do they want employees to be failures at the company?

    Note to the workforce:
In case you haven't figured it out yet, businesses are in the business of making money. They are not in the business of providing a means to livelihoods. It doesn't matter what type of business it is. The loyalty of a business stops at the proverbial front door. When you go to work every day, make sure you understand that single most important fact. Do your job, do it to the best of your ability, and go home. Nobody there is your friend, least of all the execs or board members. So when the company does decide to make better "business decisions", you'll feel much less apprehensive about suing the crap out of them and moving on to your next potential lawsuit waiting to happen.

I used a lot of this guys words when I upset my wife. I thought "I" statements was a great tool for communicating. They're not so great when you need to acknowledge the other person's pain/feelings. Instead of I'm wrong, I say "it sucks when a partner screws up." Or "the pain must be unimaginable". THEN I'm sorry. Works much better. I statements just make you think about you and your perspective. This guy thinks he's a great boss and is too self-unaware to realize he doesn't even care about his employees.
    PS
Great vid. Big hello to the anonymous intern/employee.

    • @SL-lz9jr
      @SL-lz9jr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The way I was taught, “I” statements were meant to remove blame from the other party when it came to discussing conflict. People are less likely to be defensive or combative and more likely to be receptive to feedback when it’s framed in terms of “our individual needs not being met” versus “you did something wrong”. It’s intended for conflict resolution but, yes, not when you need to acknowledge the other person’s feelings. That’s when you need to do active listening and mirror back what the other person is saying or experiencing.
E.g. a roommate is being too noisy late at night because they work odd hours and is disturbing your sleep.
“I’m not getting the sleep I need in order to wake up well rested because the noise wakes me up and prevents me from falling back asleep.”
In this way we can frame the conflict in terms of how it impacts us. Furthermore, by keeping the reference to the conflict as “the noise” rather than “your noise” we also neutralize any blame. And we’re more likely to engage in a productive conversation, leading hopefully to a mutually agreeable resolution.
Nothing is 100% trigger-proof but this is more likely to disarm someone who may otherwise feel attacked. Once someone gets on the defensive, it’s really hard to have a rational conversation. Unfortunately for me, when I get really mad, I struggle to utilize “I statements” and instead use the bad, bad, bad “you statements”.
Example: “You’re so loud at night. You always wake me up and your actions prevent me from going back to sleep.”
This just triggers people to defend their actions and arguments continue to build up and once both parties are sufficiently angry, you leave the argument having not gotten to the heart of the issue and definitely no chance of there being a solution. Even if you manage to come to a solution, you both don’t leave the conversation feeling good about yourselves so the resolution is tarnished. And one person will more than likely feel like they were coerced into the solution.
In the case of Vishal, the one-way Zoom meeting was not a discussion about a conflict he had with his employees that he needed mediation. I statements would definitely be inappropriate unless it was to say “I understand this may come as a shock to you and I understand you may need time to process this news.” But that’s not what I would consider “I statements”. That’s just showing empathy. Because the same statement could be framed without “I” in there. As in: “This may come as a shock to you and you may need time to process this news.” So, not really an “I statement” as it was unnecessary.
Sorry, I’m an HSP (highly sensitive person) with high empathy meter. Conflict resolution is my jam, despite being terrible at it in practice with my sister (the only person I really fight with the most). I like to help my friends arm themselves with communication tools to work through their relationship problems (professional and personal). Should’ve became a therapist or counselor. Oh well!

I think when you say I statements you're referring to conditions where you're wronged or are showing empathy or admitting fault. I wonder how I statements work when you're arguing for yourself or defending your actions. Would it be better to use I statements to justify yourself or use we statements to keep it non personal. Psychology unlike physics feels less universal & more situational. What are your thoughts?
