Dude! I have been watching lure making videos for a week, I am so glad I stumbled on you videos. This video is crazy helpful. I live on SSI so I can't afford $25 for a stencil, but I can afford this. Thank you so much!
Thanks...Some make videos for business, I do it to teach and help others gain confidence to try lure painting, if a guy who is legally blind/with glasses can paint lures, anyone can do it. Thanks for watching
One tip I learned over making thermo stencils for the past 6 years is I like to add a coat or two (thin coats) to the lure blank before form the stencils. Using a bare blank doesn’t take into account the added thickness of the paint when you’re using the stencils. This can distort your patterns and possibly cause scratches or damage to your bait.
And what kind of material are you using ? 🤔 With this HDPE, I can epoxy a lure, and the stencil will still fit. This material is soft and flexable, and doesn't fit so tight that it causes any problems. Thanks for sharing your experience, and thanks for checking out the channel 😊👍
@@BlindSymmetryLurePainting it PTEP or something like that. Made specifically for thermo forming. I normally shoot a coat of clear over the 1/2 baits just to represent better what the fit will be like when being applied to a bait that already has a layer of paint on it.
Hi Jose, I dint have a link for the material. I picked it up from Michael's or Hobby Lobby. It is poster board made from HDPE. thanks for checking out the channel
So many videos over simplify and cut corners. Great level of detail, excellent content. 1 question~the BB box. How did you manage to vacuum form through the bbs without them going all over the place?
I'm not sure how thick the HDPE shets are I have. The measurements of the sheet is 22×28 and is sold as poster board.. A milk jug is 38mm thick and this material seem to be the same. I hope this is of some help, thanks for watching.
Sorry don't have any links. I had everything I needed to build the thermo forming box in a scrap wood box. The plastic is a polyethylene posterboard bought from our local Michael's. Thanks for watching.
The opaque material is an HDPE posterboard from Michael's. The blue and red material is picnic plates. The HDPE is better/easier to cut. Thanks for checking out our channel.
Yes, WLure has a variety of cool looking stencils, I just haven't gotten around to purchasing any of them yet. Hopefully I'll be able to purchase some soon.
If your using HDPE it should be solvent resistant it should have no trouble soaking in thinners for over an hour with no effects Plastic Jerry cans are made from HDPE it's surfaces inside and out are florinated in fluorine gas to stop some of the shorter chain hydrocarbons leaking through HDPE The down side to HDPE is the thermal expansion is quite high so it shrinks about 11/2 to 2% or 11/2mm for every 100mm so on longer lures make sure you leave the vacuum on for a while and when storing them keep a lure inside them with clips or they will shrink And rotory tools leave a hairy finish and it dose not sand well either so sharp edge tools are the way to go
It was brought to my attention today, that I mistakenly said I purchased the HDPE material at Hbby lobby, when actually I purchased it from Michael's. I felt it was my duty to correct my mistake, I sincerely apologie.
The material is HDPE. I dont know how thick the material is. I purchased it at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I do believe I mentioned the type of material, and where I purchased it. If I didn't, my apologies.
Vinyl sheets work as well. The .02 thickness sheet is pliable enough to mold around minnow shaped hard plastic lures, very easily. I use delicate tape to adhere the clear vinyl to the lure. While on the lure, run a heat gun or hair dryer over thr stencil very quick,, maybe three passes quick passes on 350 degrees, to help the stencil form to the shape of the lure Next, draw your design on the vinyl with an ultra fine point permanent marker, cut your pattern out using a very sharp hobby knife. Use one lure as the cutting board, as the hard plastic makes cutting the pattern out much easier. The process of removing the stencil cutout takes the longest time, a steady hand and some patients. Leave the vinyl stencil on the lure for 24 hours to help retain the shape of the minnow while vinyl is cooling. Remove the stencil, trim the delicate tape back so just enough tape is left to stick to the lure. Place the vinyl stencil on the lure you are airbrushing and paint. This type of stenciling is for those who don't want to spend the money on vacuum forming stencils, which the vinyl sheets I used above from Jo-Ann Fabrics, would probably create a better stencil. I haven't tried it yet but I will as soon my vacuum box arrives. Have fun.
Have you ever thought about making the vacuum box using 3D Printing as well as the material holding handle and then sell them online? I'm certain lure painters will buy them.
Good day Jeff, the material has no packaging, It is considered plastic poster board 22"×28" sheet... I believe in the video I mentioned I bought it at Michael's. If I said Hobby Lobby I sincerely apologize. Price $2 a sheet.

Very interesting video! What material do you use in the video to make the molds?
Thanks so much!
Which kind of plastica are you using?
The material is a high density polyethylene/ HDPE. thanks for checking out our channel Luca
Do you have a link to some of the hdpe material? Having a hard time finding hdpe... and what is the thickness of the stuff you're using?

So many videos over simplify and cut corners. Great level of detail, excellent content. 1 question~the BB box. How did you manage to vacuum form through the bbs without them going all over the place?
I made a frame out of card stack, and stapled some mesh across the bottom, to keep the bb's in place while forming. Thanks for watching
Excellent video! You’ve really explained this well..Thank you.
What is the thickness of the hdpe sheets? Trying to find some on amazon 🙂

@@BlindSymmetryLurePainting Thanks again. Appreciate it.
Is there a link to this stencil equipment? I'm new to painting baits and would love to get this to make stencils

Thanks bro

How did you get the blue and red color? The hd plastic is clear right?
The blue and red are disposable plates, I don't recommend using them.
Where did you get to plastic ou used??
The opaque material is an HDPE posterboard from Michael's. The blue and red material is picnic plates.
The HDPE is better/easier to cut.
Thanks for checking out our channel.
wlure where i get my blanks from sell 3d stencils for most of their blanks.
Yes, WLure has a variety of cool looking stencils, I just haven't gotten around to purchasing any of them yet. Hopefully I'll be able to purchase some soon.
👍
do you have a link for this HDPE foil
How thick is the plastic
Hi Christian, the material is about as thick as a milk jug, maybe thicker
How strong of a vac do I need?
Good afternoon Bassassin Fishing, I use a 5 gallon, 2.5 horsepower shop vac to make my molds.
@@BlindSymmetryLurePainting would a 1.5 gal 2hp work?
I believe 2hp would work

Milk jug ?
Yes, it's the same material milk jugs are made from. Material came from Michael's or hobby lobby in the poster board rack.
