  • hanging a hammock without trees using just my motorcycle and a pole. Check out what I pack for camping on the motorcycle with the bonus of hammock set up without trees. All the camping gear fits in a saddle bag with room to spare, along with my every day carry items for motorcycling.

I always wondered if I could tie one end of my hammock to my bike... thanks

I had this unfortunate situation last week, couldn't decide to use the motorcycle as an anchor point. I think the mistake I made was to try to attach the hammock to the luggage rack rather than the handlebar clamp. But also I was on softer grass ground and it was raining - although I am using a sidestand plate, I am not sure if the sidestand wouldn't have sunk to much into the ground.
4:05 you say "without any trees" - technically you still use one pole to replace a tree 😉

The logic of the handlebars is that I was pulling the length of the bike with just enough of an angle to make sure the weight didn’t shift to the right side lifting the bike off the side stand. So it could be possible to pull from the luggage rack toward the front of the bike depending on setup. The handle bars were also a taller place of attachment.

Even with an engaged gear and the handbrake pulled with a strap I wouldn't risk to pull towards the front of the bike. Pulling backwards will make sure that the side stand remains in place.

Never been where there was not some structure to tie to, where phone pole, sign post or I have even used a bolder. You just need an imagination.
