  • This is the "New & Improved Cat-Back Performance Exhaust by Cobalt" Part # 901-305 at Moss Miata. The part number for the O2 sensor plug is 051-012. The fit of the exhaust was excellent. All of the bolts and hangers lined up perfectly. My only note is that the factory exhaust has a hanger at the catalytic converter and the Cobalt system doesn't have this hanger. You can see it at the tail end of the video where I show the two systems side by side. Also I was under a bit of a time crunch so sorry there is no video of the sound difference while driving.

Don’t know if it was just the camera quality or what but doesn’t seem much louder at all... but on the older version there was a pretty good difference between the sound of a stock exhaust. Would you say it sounds a lot different in person?

Firstly I am really sorry for this late reply. I don't know why I never saw this comment in my notifications. The exhaust isn't really that much louder than the stock one. The major change is the tone. Its quite a bit deeper with the new exhaust. The bigger change you will notice is when the engine has a load on it such as during acceleration. I did this install on a friends car under a pretty short deadline so I wasn't able to do a before and after of me driving away from the camera like I had initially intended. The exhaust sound from the driver seat didn't change much but the first time I heard the car from the outside as it drove away from me is where I noticed the largest change. It was very noticeably deeper in tone and just a little louder. This is perfect for the guy who owns this car as he is a little older and wasn't looking for an obnoxiously loud exhaust. Again sorry for the late reply. I hope this answer is still of help to you.

My current exhaust drones in the cabin at certain Rev ranges (3-4K) so I’m looking for a replacement. Would you say this exhaust is kind to your ears inside the cabin? Does it drone? This system is so much cheaper that say Racing Beat or Roadstersport so may be an option for me. What do you think?

Is this a 1.6? Did you have to remove the subframe brace to install?

Yes this is a 1.6 and no I did not have to remove the rear sub frame brace. It was actually a very quick install. All of the hangers lined up and so did all of the flanges. My two suggestions would be to try to soak all the nuts and bolts with some type of penetrating oil for a little while before trying to remove anything and to check the condition of your exhaust hangers before hand. If they are brittle and cracked I doubt they would survive the removal and install. The penetrating oil will also help you slip the hangers on and off with less effort.

Do you know anything about that? I called Moss and they said it was no longer on their sight. Do you now anywhere you could get it? This is the only exaust I realy liked!

@@sebastianherpst449 I do not. I ordered a Yonaka exhaust instead

@@xnanoo I was looking at that one, however people said they tend to get louder as time goes on. This is due to the fact they have fiber glass packing. I turned my head to Borla, but those exausts tend to have a small drone. This can be fixed by adding a resinater though. Out of all the exausts I loved the yonaka! I was just worried about longevity

Hi! Do you have a header? What catalityc do you have installed? Thanks!

    • @ItsJustJoeC

This video was with the stock exhaust manifold and even the original catalytic converter I believe. This is an extremely low mileage Miata. Later I did install a Jackson Racing Headers by Cobalt part #903-110 also from Moss Miata. Got to love paying more for that C.A.R.B. number. I recorded a before and after but when I reviewed the footage side by side there wasn't any noticeable difference between the stock manifold and the header through the Cobalt exhaust when just revving in the driveway so I never posted it. Again this is a friends Miata so I wasn't able to test the sound difference between the header and Manifold with the car under load or while driving. Simply being 6'2 with short legs means I have to sit very slouched to drive this thing so I try to avoid it if at all possible. Imagine, your left knee in the dash when off of the clutch and right knee wedged between the steering wheel and shifter while your head is still pressing against the convertible top. So going from what he said is that the header changed the interior tone of the exhaust but in his opinion it didn't add or detract to the Cobalt exhaust in any major way. I hope this helps. Also if you have questions about the Header or Cat-Back install just let me know and I will assist as much as I can.

Thanks a lot for the information. It seems that not a lot of people have this new cat-back. I know that the old version seems to be louder.
