If you can't hear how mississippi blues was formed in the early 1900's from THIS, then give up on music. It's the roots of slaves, from all over africa, who brought this art with them and in the USA we now have blues. In the caribbean, we got reggae. Without africa, imagine what we wouldn't have. Wow.

Songhoy Blues performed last summer at Bonnaroo 2015, and put on an incredibly energetic set in mid-afternoon. This video is a great representation. I hope they're able to return home soon, and I'm always glad to see the periodic resurgences of Malian music, from Ali Farka Toure, to his son, Vieux, to these amazing musicians.
This is pretty awesome stuff. It has a really nice blues feel to it, on top of a slightly jammy 70s-esque feel to it. I can see this being used in film, animation, and games pretty easily as set music. It is amazing how great they sound live. Just like Daughter, these guys seem to be truly masterful at their craft.
The power of music is immense ! If it touch your soul no need to understand the lyrics or share the same believes, just let the feeling penetrate you and make you happy

I am not from Mali, but I know that Songhai Empire and the regions all around have heavily influenced American blues. So from the Empire of Mali to the "Dirty South" was a long and painful voyage that made human souls to express the deepest feelings, through the only thing no one could take out of them: chants, hand clapping and instrument made out mere elements of the nature such as wood, for instance. At that time, people did not use electric guitars or synthesizers, because they were simply none! Even in Europe or Amerca, these instruments are relatively new as compared to instruments such as the very ancient Kora, several types or sizes of African drums and other instruments made of animal horns so hand-crafted by master artists,. Music always integrate elements from anywhere people. That's a fact! Music is kinda like a universal language. Finally, is it surprising that these guys are using electric guitars? As long as they do reproduce the same sounds as their ancestors, using today's instruments, I personally see no problem! This kind of joy shouldn't turn in trolls on social media; I find it despicable so to speak. Let's get educated and have good time, people! "Al Hassidi Terei" has a little bit of a crossroad groove to it. I've recalled it from some Hebrew rock like Fool's Gold and even some Scottish rock. It might be the bass and drums I'm honing in on.

Musicians/Artisists from the Sahel region/countries deserve SO MUCH MORE CREDIT, man. I still haven't heard of someone from that place that isn't an exploding giant star of pure sheer talent. I really wish I could understand their lyrics too, but the music is just more than enough to move my emotions/feelings in many different direction. Hope this band can achieve some more success "breaking through in the western market" ASASP.

Is there any way to get a translation? I would really love to know what exactly they are singing. This is such amazing music and so fascinating that this has come from North-West Africa, something I would've never had imagined. So politically charged and yet they somehow tap into their traditional music and fuse it with an evolved form, what we know as RNB, blues, and jazz, even elements of Funk. What a sound to my ears!

You need to see these guys live. I've not seen another band get a crowd going like they do. This set is about as chilled out as they get.
