  • The purpose of this video is to display ballistics and precision data related to changes in brass flash hole size. Results suggest that there is no benefit to altering flash hole size.

Outstanding test Sir! Lol can you please send this to all of the brass manufacturers that keep making undersized flash holes that require special decaping pins! Keep up the good work!

this is good to hear because i just accidentally ran 15 pieces of my lapua palma srp brass through a universal decapping die with a larger decapping pin than the flash hole

I've read somewhere that a smaller flashole makes a longer flame (faster ignition). Palisamo & Pindel chose the .220 russian case for many reasons, a small flashole is one of them.

Well the bigger ones didn’t do anything for precision so they were on to something for sure.

@@WitchDoctorPrecision Lapua has the smaller flash hole which they say is optimal. I would be interested to know if that is true. I don't shoot the PPC. I mainly shoot 600 yards on IBS targets for score. When the Lapua 6BR brass dried up I went with Alpha. The Alpha brass has a little less case capacity and I had t adjust the load, but I personally can't see the difference with the "standard" flash hole size with Alpha brass. Thanks for sharing the results. I bet is was somewhat painful screwing up all that brass.

@@WitchDoctorPrecision For a gas torch the hole diameter and shape has an effect on the flame shape and size. If someone wants to uniform the flash holes anyway "just in case" 🙏, you can find nozzle reamers. Reamers are better than drill bits because it leaves a better surface finish and more precise diameter.

That’s kinda surprising to hear University of Missouri tests something like that I don’t know they specialize anything with ballistics I only know they took part in developing the rail gun years ago

It was a thesis from a student so sounds like they at least can (and have) done tests like this.

Interesting and well thought out as per usual...
Think I heard of a cartridge that had a smaller primer pocket rather than the usual large one...like a 308 with small primer pocket etc...heard this from a f class guy..

Thanks Brian and based on this, it would be reasonable for someone to speculate that CCI 450 primers would not have any statistical significance. But this is on my mind purely because it's the primer that I have in abundance right now 😁. But thank you for this testing. I always wanted to know.

I do not have any evidence that primer type would change these results. I suggest sorting the primers so that you get the most out of them.
