Thanks mam, but it's not so hard when you get use to it. It's all about prospective, for example, Muslims, like Jews, don't eat pork, for a Cristian it will be very hard to avoid pork but for us it's normal. My point is that as a Jewish I need to avoid some things, and sometimes, if I'm traveling through Europe for example, it could be restraining specialy when you love to eat and try new things, but in daily basis, it's no so hard.
At the end was a comment that explained everything: "I think it would have been easier if I had a community of people around me." I'm Kosher and where I live in northern NJ it's no trouble at all - there are plenty of food stores and restaurants (even liquor stores) that are Kosher. It's really not a challenge at all. It also answers the question of why religious Jews live in communities together.

We went to a synagog with my school and they told us that usually jews need to have 2 different sets of dishes because of they can't mix dairy and meat. They have to be super careful. I'm Buddhist and when I went to the US last year as an exchange student, I lived with conservative jewish family. They keep kosher very strictly, but they didn't mind if I ate non kosher food outside the house. However, i spent a majority of time at home so I did keep kosher with them and I found it was very easy to do

It is hard if you cant cook and mostly eat out. For me it wouldnt be that hard cause Ive been vegan for almost 7 years and easily can choose vegan/vegetarian option. But for those who used to eat meat every day it must be hard.

As a Kosher eater that video is a little bit exaggerated.... I was in the US for a month, it was very easy to keep kosher, there are lots of products under observation. True, there are places where the products are more available such as New York and Los Angeles (as opposed to Vegas for example), but in the end it wasn't really difficult.
I went kosher for a while (and i eat kosher during passover - just family tradition) and you just have to be a little more aware of what you eat... i actually found it easier than the different diets i have tried in order to lose weight. it's also super easy if you make your own meals.
It's restaurants that are tough, depending on how kosher you wanna go. And yeah, 6 hours is overkill. Most don't break for more than an hour in my experience.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that if you grow up kosher, then you don't have to harder time because you are simply used to it. I will most likely never understand what it is to be kosher as although I am jewish, we where never really orthodox. But then my aunt Sara is incredibly kosher, has two kitchens and everything, and when we used to go over there her life style was completely normal and she had no trouble.

actually yes (and it's not a lot more expensive, just low quality meat), but considering there are so many good restaurants there, I don't know why people still buy it.
It's a whole lot easier - and awesome actually - when you recognize and internalize what an incredible opportunity every mitzvah is. The idea of G-d being a clockmaker and 'not caring' about what we do or what we eat is entirely a Greek concept which happens to permeate much of Western society. When a Jew actually believes it, that tells you how deep into the exile we really are. Hopefully we'll all have the chance to learn about our actual heritage very soon.

Keeping kosher may seem difficult to those who don't, but once you do it for awhile, it is the easiest thing in the world. What they didn't mention in this video is if you fully keep kosher, you will not eat at restaurants that do not have a kosher certification.
My neighbors growing up was the Levin family. I remember that they had two refrigerators and two dish washers. I also remember that when all the other dads were mowing their yards on Saturday, Mr. Levin mowed his on Sunday. Growing up I thought that they were either eccentric or well off (no one else I knew had double kitchen appliances!). Now I know that they were observant of all the typical rights and rules of their faith. I still remember the prayer for Hanukkah despite it being over 20 years since they were my neighbors.

Kashrut requires that to be kosher, mammals must chew cud and must have cloven hooves. Halal only requires that an animal survive on grass and leaves. Thus some animals such as the camel are permissible under halal, but not according to kashrut.

Well obviously nothing they ate in a restaurant was kosher AT ALL if it wasn't prepared in a kosher kitchen certified by a rabbi. Just because you don't eat pork or meat and dairy together, doesn't mean it's kosher.

The reasoning behind not eating pork is all due to the fact that pigs are dirty animals. They eat their own feces and back in ancient times keeping food sanitary and safe for consumption was difficult. This law of not eating pig kept those keeping kosher from getting diseases.

The worst part about being kosher for me is the two sets of milk and meat. My family only has one dishwasher, so we only put dairy dishes in it and it is always so hard when you have to deal with explaining it to people or end up being mean by telling somebody trying to be nice by putting their plate in the dishwasher that they can't do it
As an Orthodox Jew who grew up keeping kosher: who wrote that list of rules? They never differentiated the fact that you only have to wait after eating meat to eat dairy, not the other way around. And only super-religious Jews wait six hours. Some people only wait for one. My family waits 3. Also, all coffee is kosher. It's the additives you need to watch out for. (syrups and the like). Also, there are more "signs" (they're called hechshers) than just OU.
Yeah, but I figured they probably made at least detailed because as we saw, if you don’t know anything about kashrut, it’s really overwhelming. I don’t have a concept of that personally though, at least I think being vegan is a lot more restrictive as someone who try being vegan and has been kosher my whole life. Nothing felt more freeing than going to the conventional grocery store and getting the conventional goat cheese that just so happen to be kosher, because again almost everything is kosher these days unless it explicitly has something not kosher in it, because it’s just super easy to get that certification.
Actually it isn't an issue of "Super-religious" which determines how long you wait between Meat and milk. The minhag (custom) for Chasidim and those from Eastern Europe is 6 hours, which was the amount of time between their meat lunch and the evening meal. Western European Jews, say from German tradition which includes Jews from the UK and British Commonwealth countries, wait 3 hours, which is the time between a meat lunch and afternoon tea. Dutch Jews only wait one hour due to their cultural tradition of eating a number of daily meals.

there ae literally so many kosher options in la. there are tons of supermarkets, restaurants, kosher options in regular supermarkets. plus basically all drinks in starbucks are kosher.

I eat kosher fully and although it's hard in places like the cinema, theme parks etc there are usually kosher restaurants and almost everything in the US has an OU unless its got animal products in it, all milk from cows is kosher and starbucks in the US is kosher as well. A Reform Jew who keeps Kosher? That must sometimes be a problem when participating in your community's activities, or do you have "Reform" Kosher standards, kind of "Kosher Style", which are not according to the strict Orthodox Jewish Law?
As an Orthodox Jew here's my take: (1) No need to wait 6 hours after dairy, just rinsing mouth is sufficient, some say 30 minutes. 6 hours is only after meat. (2) you don't have to boil your dishes every time. All kosher kitchens just have two sets of everything. (3) there is lots of kosher alcohol. The biggest issues are specifically with wine. (4) Starbucks has no kosher food, but you can get plain coffee and milk anywhere. (5) going to any restaurant that doesn't have rabbinical supervision isn't kosher. That's all I can think of. But also like lots of ppl before have said, once you grow up with this your whole life it's not that difficult.
I'm Jewish and I keep kosher all the time and when I went to a Starbucks that I've never been to before I wanted to double check if the frappucinos were kosher and the lady didn't know what kosher was and it took me over 4 minutes till she asked someone and they gave my friends and I an answer. They were very nice though. :)

Starbucks has tons of kosher options, you just have to do a bit of research ahead of time about what works for you. It also helps to know all of the kosher symbols on not just the big ones like OU, OK, and KofK.

Ye halaal is quite similar. Ur not allowed to eat pig. The animal isn't allowed to feel any pain. Its really similar, but not as extreme.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that if you grow up kosher, then you don't have to harder time because you are simply used to it. I will most likely never understand what it is to be kosher as although I am jewish, we where never really orthodox. But then my aunt Sara is incredibly kosher, has two kitchens and everything, and when we used to go over there her life style was completely normal and she had no trouble.

It's a whole lot easier - and awesome actually - when you recognize and internalize what an incredible opportunity every mitzvah is. The idea of G-d being a clockmaker and 'not caring' about what we do or what we eat is entirely a Greek concept which happens to permeate much of Western society. When a Jew actually believes it, that tells you how deep into the exile we really are. Hopefully we'll all have the chance to learn about our actual heritage very soon.

Keeping kosher may seem difficult to those who don't, but once you do it for awhile, it is the easiest thing in the world. What they didn't mention in this video is if you fully keep kosher, you will not eat at restaurants that do not have a kosher certification.

My neighbors growing up was the Levin family. I remember that they had two refrigerators and two dish washers. I also remember that when all the other dads were mowing their yards on Saturday, Mr. Levin mowed his on Sunday. Growing up I thought that they were either eccentric or well off (no one else I knew had double kitchen appliances!). Now I know that they were observant of all the typical rights and rules of their faith. I still remember the prayer for Hanukkah despite it being over 20 years since they were my neighbors.

Well obviously nothing they ate in a restaurant was kosher AT ALL if it wasn't prepared in a kosher kitchen certified by a rabbi. Just because you don't eat pork or meat and dairy together, doesn't mean it's kosher.

I think it's wonderful that they've brought this to the attention of non-observant Jews. It's kind of funny to see the parts of it that they've chosen to include there's so much more to keeping kosher than just that little packet of instructions.

The reasoning behind not eating pork is all due to the fact that pigs are dirty animals. They eat their own feces and back in ancient times keeping food sanitary and safe for consumption was difficult. This law of not eating pig kept those keeping kosher from getting diseases.

The worst part about being kosher for me is the two sets of milk and meat. My family only has one dishwasher, so we only put dairy dishes in it and it is always so hard when you have to deal with explaining it to people or end up being mean by telling somebody trying to be nice by putting their plate in the dishwasher that they can't do it

As an Orthodox Jew who grew up keeping kosher: who wrote that list of rules? They never differentiated the fact that you only have to wait after eating meat to eat dairy, not the other way around. And only super-religious Jews wait six hours. Some people only wait for one. My family waits 3.
Also, all coffee is kosher. It's the additives you need to watch out for. (syrups and the like).

Yeah, but I figured they probably made at least detailed because as we saw, if you don’t know anything about kashrut, it’s really overwhelming. I don’t have a concept of that personally though, at least I think being vegan is a lot more restrictive as someone who try being vegan and has been kosher my whole life. Nothing felt more freeing than going to the conventional grocery store and getting the conventional goat cheese that just so happen to be kosher, because again almost everything is kosher these days unless it explicitly has something not kosher in it, because it’s just super easy to get that certification.
Actually it isn't an issue of "Super-religious" which determines how long you wait between Meat and milk. The minhag (custom) for Chasidim and those from Eastern Europe is 6 hours, which was the amount of time between their meat lunch and the evening meal. Western European Jews, say from German tradition which includes Jews from the UK and British Commonwealth countries, wait 3 hours, which is the time between a meat lunch and afternoon tea. Dutch Jews only wait one hour due to their cultural tradition of eating a number of daily meals.

what I learned from the video and comments is that religion and practices are different for all even those of the same religion.I love it.
I eat kosher fully and although it's hard in places like the cinema, theme parks etc there are usually kosher restaurants and almost everything in the US has an OU unless its got animal products in it, all milk from cows is kosher and starbucks in the US is kosher as well. This was really interesting!

im jewish and the meat and diary stuff is taken very seriously in my family , we have two sinks in our kitchen two sets of forks , spoons , knifes , plates bassically everithing ! if the people in this video knew more about the kosher rules they would have known that almost everything in starbucks is kosher , plus , if you eat diary before meat you dont have to take a 6 hour break.

As an Orthodox Jew here's my take:
(1) No need to wait 6 hours after dairy, just rinsing mouth is sufficient, some say 30 minutes. 6 hours is only after meat.
(2) you don't have to boil your dishes every time. All kosher kitchens just have two sets of everything.
(3) there is lots of kosher alcohol. The biggest issues are specifically with wine.
(4) Starbucks has no kosher food, but you can get plain coffee and milk anywhere.
(5) going to any restaurant that doesn't have rabbinical supervision isn't kosher.
That's all I can think of. But also like lots of ppl before have said, once you grow up with this your whole life it's not that difficult.

I'm Jewish and I keep kosher all the time and when I went to a Starbucks that I've never been to before I wanted to double check if the frappucinos were kosher and the lady didn't know what kosher was and it took me over 4 minutes till she asked someone and they gave my friends and I an answer. They were very nice though. :)

Starbucks has tons of kosher options, you just have to do a bit of research ahead of time about what works for you. It also helps to know all of the kosher symbols on not just the big ones like OU, OK, and KofK.
