Hi Michele I like the oil pastel and candle wax, very useful. I never use the masking fluid, I like the masking tape you suggested in other videos. Take care and blessings.
I found for the tiniest details, the most affordable tiny brushes are cheap ones intended for model painting (eg. for Warhammer but not their own brand - eBay specials instead). as they don't get much use from me, the lower quality is less important due to the fact they're highly unlikely to get used loads. plus they're often sold in larger quantities.
My favorite tip was the bonus tip! You are by far the best teacher I have ever had. Thank you so much Michele for all your information and the attention to detail. I have learned so much from you and have gotten so much inspiration❤️
A trick I learnt when decorating the house is to make sure you press on the brush sufficiently to absorb any *jitters* one might otherwise have -this is useful when "cutting in" at a ceiling - but it can be applied to watercolour painting.
Wow! My old thin nibbled pen worked! Thanks, now to try my Aquarell coloured pencils, as you did leaf like. Thanks. Also to scratch/ use round end tool on paints! Thanks
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber is there a prefered canvas for water colour or could i use any canvas? the ones our shops have have a kind of square like texure. i believe the brand is "Crawford & Black" i think
Number 3 was new to me: your wax resist fine line technique using masking tape and candles or oil pastels. I’m wondering if the wax in crayons works as well as candle wax. I also appreciated number seven when you demonstrated watercolor pencil techniques. “Watercolor pencils are here to make your life easier.“ lol I am looking forward to trying this more. Thank you for continuing to post. I always learn something new! 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵
whoa this is a fantastic education, thank you so much!! if I had to pick a favorite (and it's hard cos you've opened up so many new possibilities here) I'd have to pick the one that is completely new to me, using wax or oil pastel. Well, they're actually all new, just FANTASTIC thank you!! 💖💛💖💛💖
Excellent options! Just starting out in my watercolor journey have only tried painting the line with a brush and based on this lesson I am using far too much water mix. Really excited to try the wax and masking tape technique.
Really handy tips. After seeing this I used two narrow pieces of masking tape close together to do some ship rigging that was giving me problems. Laborious but effective! Thanks for the tip!
The dip pen tip is brilliant! I'm going to try that today as well as doing my signature. I've got a full range of nibs that were my grandfather's. Can't wait to play!
Always find invaluable information on your lovely channel. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us. When I apply what you share to my paintings, it makes all the difference in what I paint.
Loved your tips! I am a multidisciplinary artist and I am back at my watercolour and ink after 20 years without using it. It makes me a good refreshed technique!
Michelle, thank you for sharing and providing valuable tips all with a lovely beautiful presentation, so clear to follow and remember, all tips will be used
You're my favorite teacher of watercolor paintings. I need this tip. Whenever I try to paint thin lines, my fingers get shaky. Nerves maybe? Edit great tips, by the way
Loved all your suggestions. My fav was probably the one on masking fluid. I do like it and have never had a problem but I don't do botanicals. I would like to start and it is good to know it could be a problem with leaves. Thank you💐
So glad to see your feeling better. I love your bonus tip for fine lines. It was a huge help for me and figuring out just what I was doing wrong with my painting fine lines. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us.
Your videos are always VERY helpful ❤️ I'm so grateful for your help, I really hope your algorithm reaches Mars. I bought a scalpel some days ago with the purpose of making highlights and ripples, I will try it as well for grasses, what I've used so far is the back point of one of my brushes that's ends in a sharp point. I've heard that some sharpen it on purpose with a pencil sharpener to use it to score the paper but I hate the idea of ruining my brushes, unless they're cheap. I think a stick from the garden could do as well... It's all trial and error when you're learning and that's where the fun is!
My fav is about applying masking fluid with ruling pen. I've always had a difficult time applying the fluid, I'll have to try it this way. I'm so excited that this might fix my problem and get me to use that little bottle of fluid that has been sitting on the shelf unused for half a year! I'll remember not to overdo it and put it on everything though ;)
I use disposable eyeliner "brushes" I get very reasonably on Amazon for my very delicate line masking fluid work, or sharp points. The tip is like a sponge material or such, not sure. Like a 100 or so to an order, and one order lasts FOREVER. You can wash and reuse or toss them after use.
Wonderful tips! I never would've thought to use a dip pen with watercolor! I remember using them with India ink in a high school art class but that was over 20 years ago now, lol! I'm glad to know there are cheap ones that will work for this because I'm thinking it would be fun to try with my kids too, so I may get a few ;)
I have used dip pens some time and they are great though like you said sometimes time consuming. I started using them with ink first but they do work just as well with watercolors and the effect is much softer. The calligraphy tips are useful as well when you wish to make variegated lines. It can be very beautiful and natural when the line is not entirely the same width all the time.
Hi Michele. I was waiting for your credit card technique, so that's another one to add to this list. I appreciate you! Your videos have brought me farther along in my practice!
A lot of animal artists use white acrylic ink with any of the application techniques shown here, alternatively you could use Titanium white gouache, or of course black. Dip pen or tiny brush would work well.
Have you tried using them on wet paint? If they aren't releasing much pigment or making much of a mark it's usually a sign of low quality. Watercolor pencils can be bought seperately from art shops and online, you don't need to get a full set, so you could try a different brand :-)
Very informative tutorials - thank you. Unfortunately I find the verbal delivery a bit difficult to listen to when instructions are being given, but when chatting a more natural flow of speaking is easier on the ear.
@@teresahedall no. That would be worse. I think it’s that she is concentrating so hard on explaining things clearly it interrupts a more easy delivery. Not a criticism just an observation 😊
I do tend to talk fast, you can actually slow the speed very slightly in youtube settings and it won't make too much difference to the quality. Lots of people do it for accents or stuff that's too fast for them :-)

Had to try this out ASAP. Discovered that embossing looks extra-nice after gently lifting the area!
I loved the tip about using a fountain pen for watercolor
Most usefull tips, thanks Michelle. Love the dip pen idea!
Was waiting for the video and voilà 🤗😀. Hope you are feeling better 💙❤️♥️.
Yes! Thank you, not quite 100% but getting there :-)
The oil pastel is genius! I can’t wait to try! And I need to run to hardware store and pick up a candle💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
I do love this last tip best as I never consciously thought about it!
I can't wait to try the watercolour pencils along with the actual paint
I liked them all

Yes wax crayons should work, soft pastels or conte will not as they are too chalky, you need wax or oil :-)
Here's another little trick to create small marks by lifting. Use an eraser shield and a Mr. Clean Magic eraser sponge to lift small areas of paint.
Great tip!
Thanks for the reminder about using Watercolor pencils! I use a glass dip pen to sign my paintings.
I sign mine in liner pen :-)
I love watercolour and I love dip pens but I have never used a dip pen with watercolour. Duh!
Thanks Michele.

Hadn't thought about using a dip pen with watercolor. This was an excellent video. Thanks!
Thank you!
Using a dip pen with masking fluid will give the finest of lines. Once the masking fluid dries on the pen nib, it comes right off.
Thanks, I haven't tried that one, am thinking of doing an applicator comparison video soon :-)
Thanks! This was very helpful!

The one with the dip pen I did not know about. I am wondering if my glass pen will also do well with watercolors.
Certainly worth a try Teresa!

Love the candle technique…would kids drawing candle work (white of course)
Yes, most types of wax crayons or oil pastels will work. Candle is transparrent of course, other types may not be, but all will resist the paint.
