i always think its so sad what happened to Gortash. ofc he's a piece of garbage but i imagine its probably impossible not to be after being sold by your own parents, and to a devil no less. and the fact he'd control them now just to have them be proud of him.... man i love how larian wrote the villains for bg3
It's a sad story indeed and makes one wonder what would have become of Gortash if his parents hadn't sold him. His mother said he was mean even before that, but he was just a child. Thank you very much for commenting.
Honestly Gortash never had a chance to be good with parents like these; when she was recounting the story she took no responsibility whatsoever for anything, she claims the loansharks would kill them all....but the parents CHOSE to take money from a shady loanshark to start up a business that they couldn't run properly and which ended up bleeding money, then rather than sell the business and stock to recoup whatever they could, they instead sold their son to a stranger so they could keep the unprofitable shop. They don't see it, but they were just as greedy and selfish as Gortash ended up being, and it's very possible he learned this FROM them (it's also possible he was always a little shit even as a kid, like the mother says, but her judgement is flawed so maybe he was a nice kid and they convinced themselves he was bad so they didn't feel as bad for selling him?).
Thank you very much for your long and interesting comment. Some very good points here. This is what I love about this game and the community: how the game makes people think about the characters and why they act the way they do. What Gortash's parents did to him was horrible. What mother would sell her own child? Also, little children can be brats, yes, but evil? In real life psychology they say that the first few months affect the personality most. If parents neglect a baby or shout often, it is more likely the child later either suffers from depression or becomes a bully.

I always spoke to these two but never realized that the son they were referring to was Gortash, how did I miss that? haha Great video!
I think you have to interact with either the portrait or one of the books before talking to them.
Anyway, thank you very much for commenting.
