btm wtfb Dude, people don’t put him with the legends cause he’s famous. Eric Clapton said that he’s a master himself, and honestly I believe that he has the greatest versatility. If you actually see more of his guitar playing with the dead and company, you can see that no where is John Mayer playing like srv at all. Just because he uses a couple licks no where makes him a srv imitator. Check out neon, it has a jazzy solo, all original playing that John Mayer created. His right handed technique is also very unique (the way he uses it). Yes I know some people uses it too but the way John Mayer uses it is crazy. John Mayer also used a slapping technique that you don’t really see srv using it. Check out Magnolia with Eric Clapton and John Mayer, John Mayer was playing a really soulful David Gilmour feel. The same with I guess I just feel like, very Derek trucks feel and David Gilmour, and a little bit of Mark Knopfler. When it comes to the blues, srv is much better, but versatility and technique, I’m sorry but you have to hand it to John Mayer. I doubt srv would get anywhere close to neon.
