      well he has learned from the greats and added in his own techniques. would love to see him have a guitar off with srv.clapton, stkins, setzer etc...would be a night worth 10X more than any usual concert.

John Mayer has blues running through his veins, even if he hasn't faced hardship. Saying that Real Blues is from hardship is like what you said in your reply, part of it. Blues is Blues.

      That’s a Cornish NG- 2 pedal he’s using to get that sound. He uses it and talks about it on the crossroads instructional video. It’s a really expensive pedal but it sounds great especially through really good amps

    I love this song, since its lyrics go so far in the history of the blues, where famous blues musicians played a song on their guitar in the middle of the night at a crossroads. All of this in order to magically master the art of blues, while also selling their life to a demon.

    How can such an unimaginable amount of talent be squeezed into one god damn person. The guitar is like an extension of him, as if it is one of his limbs. The amount of control there and all of that in front of crowd, mostly filled with women who are dehydrated for you, is nuts. John is just built different.       He began his career doing pop because pop sells more albums and gets more airtime, but he's been playing blues at his live shows since the beginning. The Blues is why he started playing guitar.

    can someone explain me how John does this lick at 3:35 ?
    I've watched it at 0.25 speed and still can't understand. Does he really do a pinch harmonic on the 3rd note of the lick?
    His octave pedal must probably help to achieve this sound, but damn that's cool.

      its a srv blues guy thing. hits the 1 on the E string. so if its in A, 5th fret.
