      well he has learned from the greats and added in his own techniques. would love to see him have a guitar off with srv.clapton, stkins, setzer etc...would be a night worth 10X more than any usual concert.

      phillip - start with the try album, some of his best guitar playing is on that. every album has some gems on it, ignore the pop songs is the key.

      Jarecl Let's not forget all the behind the scenes songwriting John does for other artist. He definitely has a huge influence on the music industry and will for quite a while, even as his own music may or may not become less prevalent

John Mayer has blues running through his veins, even if he hasn't faced hardship. Saying that Real Blues is from hardship is like what you said in your reply, part of it. Blues is Blues.

      That’s a Cornish NG- 2 pedal he’s using to get that sound. He uses it and talks about it on the crossroads instructional video. It’s a really expensive pedal but it sounds great especially through really good amps

    I love this song, since its lyrics go so far in the history of the blues, where famous blues musicians played a song on their guitar in the middle of the night at a crossroads. All of this in order to magically master the art of blues, while also selling their life to a demon.

      He began his career doing pop because pop sells more albums and gets more airtime, but he's been playing blues at his live shows since the beginning. The Blues is why he started playing guitar.

    I remember in the 90's during grunge era, generation at those time mostly don't listen to blues anymore..blues has become music for oldies and few young musicians..

    Great and many guitar Gods played this song but to my taste the best will always be the live version by Cream played somewhere about 1968.
