In the pre-World War I years of Europe, amidst the social and political upheavals of the time, Crimean-Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff's genius did not initially receive the full recognition it deserved in New York, even up until the war's end in 1919. I believe it took pianist Yunchan Lim to truly convey the message Rachmaninoff embedded within his music - a message to humanity that transcended years.
For too long, brilliant pianists focused on the Rach 3's technical virtuosity, overlooking its soul and deeper meaning. Yunchan, however, provided the key to unlocking the world of inner turmoil Rachmaninoff experienced during his composition. He masterfully revealed how beauty the life and world can be and how easily consumed by the darkness of human ambitions that pave the way conflict and devastation.
Yunchan's fingertips brought to life the composer's longing and profound remembrance of his homeland, the war frenzy that gripped the people, and the ultimate societal devastation. With his performance, Rachmaninoff's emotions became tangible, visible, and palpable.
It was a privilege and a joy to witness a young genius and his masterful interpretation of a legendary compposition by another genius. From the depths of our hearts, we extend our gratitude: first to Yunchan Lim (- May Allah always protect him from the evil eye 🧿--) and his family, then to the Korean Society and the State that nurture such talent, a timeless legend for the world stage, and finally to the Cliburn Competition for inspiring and motivating young talents to enrich human civilization.
We eagerly await and hope that we will find the opportunity to witness Yunchan Lim's artistry Türkiye in our lifetime. 🎶

There is nothing more subjectively beautiful and infinite than the emotions conveyed by the sound of music and there’s nothing more definite than the deep satisfaction and joy we feel when we hear something so right. To my ears Lim's performance surpassed Stephenson's because of the poetic finesse he imbued the piece with. the orchestra sounded alive with Lim, very anemic with Stephenson.

다른 연주자들과 라흐3을 비교해서 듣다보니 궁금한점..특히 3악장에서 더 분명해지는것같은데 속도는 둘째치고 임윤찬이 음을 더 많이 치고 있는건지 아님 다른 연주자들이 음을 몇개 생략하고 치는건지 잘 아시는분 있으면 답변좀 부탁드려요 궁금궁금
라흐는 악장이 3개로 이루어 졌고, 1과 2 사이에 카덴차가 ( Cadenza = 자유롭게 즉흥적으로 연주 ) 있음. 보통은 카텐차 넘버 2 를 치는데, 임군은 다른 사람과 차이를 주기 위해 넘버 1을 연주 했다함. 그리고 같은 라흐라도 연주자에 따라 악보를 달리 해석해서 속도, 치는 강약에 따라 달라짐. 어느 해설가에 따르면 임군의 기교가 남다르고 마지막 클라이막스에서는 그간 아무도 하지 못한 절정을 모여주어 인상적이었다함.
마지막 클라이막스 부분에서 다른 연주자와는 뚜렷이 구별되는 독자성을 보였는데 그 이유가 무엇인가 하면 협주곡과 교향곡이 이렇게 다르다는 점을 보여 주었으며, 오케스트라와 피아노의 템포조절을 절묘하게 잘 맞추어 나갔기 때문임. (다른 연주자는 자기의 피아노 소리가 처음부터 끝까지 다른 오케스트라 악기의 소리에 파묻히지 않기 위해 기를 썼지만 임윤찬은 오히려 오케스트라 소리를 살리기 위해 스스로 피아노 소리를 죽일 때는 죽였고 살릴 때는 특히 힘을 주어 살렸음). 이상임.
라흐3은 피아니스트들의 무덤이라고 불릴 정도로 악마의 기교로 치기 어려운 곡?중에 하나 입니다 클레이튼과 일리야( 파이널1) 친 것 보면 느리고 박자가 오케랑 어긋나고 구성도 엉망이고 너무 준비가 안된것도 있지만 이 곡 자체가 난해하고 어려운 곡이라 들으면 모르고 지나칠것을 하필이면 지니어스 임윤찬 피아니스트랑 같은곡을 연주, 비교가 자연스럽게 되고보니 실력차이가 하늘과 땅이란게 드러나죠 한마디로 임윤찬 피아니스트가 천재적인 음악성과 테크닉 을 모두가진것 ㅎㅎ ( 파이널 실황중계 ~ 클레이튼이 연주할때 채팅방에서 연주자에게 못맞춘다고 오케랑 지휘자 욕하고 난리가 났다는데 , 그래서인지 파이널 실황 채팅 다시보기가 안되죠. 마지막 윤찬군이 연주 하는것 보고 같은 오케 맞냐? 임 이 오케를 장악했네 라는 말들이 나왔다고합니다 (사실 파이널6 선정 논란이있었는데 클레이튼(미국)이 그중 하나~ ) 그만큼 난해하고 복잡해서 클레이튼이 놓치거나 늦거나 빠르거나 연주를 못해도 대부분 알아채지 못했다는 반증인거죠 ~ 임윤찬 피아니스트가 최고의 연주를 역사에 오래 남을 연주를 한거 라고 보면 될것 같습니다 제 개인적인 생각은 반클 오케가 선방은 했지만 뛰어난 임윤찬 피아니스트를 받쳐주기엔 조금 부족한 느낌이었습니다 특히 다이내믹한 3악장에서 오케가 조금 느린것 같아서 아쉬웠습니다 ( 반클 경연 한참일때 호스트해설자 중간중간 나올때마다 임윤찬은 콩쿨에나 나올 실력이 아니다 another level out of this world 라며 입을 모았죠
임윤찬씨 피아노 소리의 clarity가 좋아요. 음표 하나하나 소리가 명징하게 들려서 음표가 많다고 느끼는 것일거에요.
클군은 템포를 못따라가다가 와씨 나도 모르겠다 하고 다음 마디로 건너뛰는등 문외한인 저의 귀에도 급하게 건너뛰는 부분이 꽤 되었던거 같아요. 끝나는 건 맞춰야하니..

No the commentary over the music is irritating. He complimented him several times on his past awards, how beautifully he played the Beethoven concerto, said the cadenza was great and has complimented his ability to even play such a technically difficult piece. What more do you want. He is not a judge. I do not like this format of commenting over the music. He seems like a nice man however, appreciative of the musicians especially Luchan Lim.
대부분 평론가?들이 임윤찬피아니스트 나이를 강조하는게 불편하네요.
그 나이에 그런 연주를 해서 1등한건 절대절대 아닐텐데요.
나이를 초월해서 그냥 독보적인 연주였기 때문이었고 테크닉을 넘어선 감동과 울림을 주는 연주자는 저는 처음이었습니다.
슐타노프와 비교하는 분도 계시던데 확연히 다른 연주자입니다.
비난하는게 아니라 다름을 얘기하는거고 슐타노프의 연주는 감탄을 자아냈지만 임윤찬 피아니스트의 연주는 대부분 청중의 가슴을 울렸고 실제 클라이번 파이널 연주시 많은 청중과 기자들이 눈물을 흘렸다고 합니다.
나이는 중요하지 않습니다.
아뇨 그래서 더 훌륭하다는 얘기를 하는 겁니다.
인생의 희노애락을 느끼고 보통 40~50년은 쳐야 나올 수 감성이 18세 소년에게 나왔으니 놀랄 수 밖에요.
18세라는 나이는 그가 역대 최고의 피아니스트라는 평가에서 더 극적인 놀라움을 줍니다.
