This machine is by far my forever G5. I have had 2 in my 46 years, I kept the one I have now, same hardware as yours Chris. I bought the same card 4 years ago for $179. I haver run linux, macos, and even morphos. Great machines everybody! If you ever have a chance to snag one, dont hesitate!
I had a pegasus II board running an earlier version of morph os on it, and really liked it. Sold it a good few years ago and wish I had hung onto it now, since newer PPC boards and macs are so much more expensive now. Same goes for the expanded A4000CR I had. I was getting a bit overrun with everything I had and needed to declutter though.
I have also a MacPro G5 dual core 2 ghz tower with MorphOS.note that an iMac G5 was 2.1ghz (iSight) and it runs blistering fast, also 1.5ghz G4 macmini also crazy fast which I own both with MorphOS 3.18 (Brings life back to these obsolete Macs) Great Video Chris
I've got the water cooled G5 quad 2.3ghz. The water cooler failed so I've been trying to figure out how to fix it. I look forward to triple booting OS X, Linux and Morph OS on it.
Interesting and entertaining. Regarding root canals, got my first last year and as long as there's plenty of pain killers, (drugs) it was totally fine. The tooth is still working fine too. So yeah, I'm not in search of more root canals but I think with a good mouth surgeon crew, sure, victory goes to modern medicine with us as benefactors. Now, universal health care ........ oh yeah, Mericka. I've watch a few videos that touch on Morph OS, and yeah, a great next step would be to get something called 'Any OS' and on the fly like Morph OS seems to be doing. I'm thinking of using the Ventoy or some Virtual boot box setup on an older win box I've got around here. Not necessarily switchable on the fly but better than getting locked up in one of the main eco-systems. 🔐I think it's referred to as lock-in. I'll watch as software like morph os develops. Chris rulez. Very nice Video. I have been using MOS since 2001 (BPPC/Bvision card yet, since version 0.8 until 1.4.5🙂) and with every update is MorphOS better and better. 👍 Now i'm using on PBG4, PMacG5.

I bought the same card and couldn't get it to work. Turns out the card is a PC card reflashed with the ROM needed for OS X. It will work for that. I finally found a X1900 G5 card and it works with MorphOS. My G5 is the 2.3GHz dual core PCIe machine. What did you do to get it to work???
I have the same issue. I had to purchase a PC version of this card. Flash it with Mac firmware (3 years ago). Now the FAN runs at full speed and doesn't work with MOS (black screen). 😿
I own 2x2GHZ and in idle it makes some wiered tickering/feeping noises... if it has something to do it's gone. What did you do to get rid of zje scratches on the case?
ATI is unfriendly regarding their support. If it just needs a to be hacked, you can do it and share the MorphOS ATI driver with the world. Win-Win for everyone.
@@guidomersmann9744 The card I was going to put in it is a pc card, you can hack the firmware to the Mac version, theres a fair few videos on TH-cam on how to do, it but basically you need an old PCI graphics card to see whats going on and the PCIX card you want to mod. Should work the same afterwards except no power over the video connector as in the genuine Mac compliant ones. Not a problem for me as I ditched my Formac screens years ago in favour of LED widescreens that were far better and a quarter of the price.
@@pkf4124 It is still an ATI card, which means the stuff is undocumented, which results in no MorphOS support. If the card works with OSX or not, does not matter.
There was a proof of concept of MorphOS for Intel CPU's shown years ago, but I don't know if work on that project was cancelled, or if it still continues. I haven't been keeping up with news on MorphOS for a few years. There are a few very talented developers who created and continue to work on MorphOS, but I don't know what the prospects for it's future are now.
Perhaps you can help me Chris if you will I have a amiga 500 pal loads everything as long as it does not includes multiple disk swapping what do you think is going on
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration no hard drive its kickstart 1.3 tried both DFO and DFI , Pinball Fantasies disk 1 DFO 3.5 and Pinball Fantasies DF1 Gotek disk 2 just crashes same story any program with 2 or more disks including Pen Pal but Deluxe Galaga and Great Giana Sisters is fine by the looks of the pal rev 5 board all the chips are original l just got me wondering if a ram chip or a solder point is going bad what ever the case I'll have post it overseas for repair just trying to get a grips with a direction
@@elwoodpot14 i would start by booting Amiga Test kit 1.2 and running some tests. you may have a 44256k ram chip that bit the poo. it happens. they are cheap.

Kind of redundant to run MorphOS on a 64-bit G5 as it is a 32-bit operating system: it’s not going to take advantage of all the registers. Next, the maximum RAM MorphOS can “see” is 1.7GB so anything else is a waste (for MorphOS at least, Linux and Mac OS X will utilise it fine!) I run MorphOS on a PowerBook G4 15” Aluminium with a 256 GB SSD and 2 GB RAM.
Imagine paying ~£70 on a licence for a niche proprietary operating system that only works on specific old computers that can't be reused unless the computer is dead.
it can be re used, or transferred but would deactivate any other license you hold. i own and use the two i have now so i purchased it. I have no problem in supporting

Why the title of best PowerMac G5? I have a 2.7GHz dual G5 model, and the last PowerPC model, which is the quad core 2.5GHz G5, which I would say both are better than the model you received. Mine need the coolant systems refurbished, with new "O'-rings", before I try to use them again, as I don't want to risk coolant failure and damage to the PSU's which were stupidly located at the bottom of the case.
Well, I wouldn't call the quad G5 better as there is a severe weekness: The watercooling. The maintenance free Apple watercooling system needs maintenance and I will bet there today there is not a single machine that still works correctly without having been serviced.
For MorphOS that is the ultimate G5. MorphOS only sees 1 core/processor. The heatsinks in the PCIe G5s are very effective in running cool with no leak risks. The PCIe systems have a faster bus and cache than the older 2.7, so it is a trade off. You lose 200MHz but gain in other areas. He needs to update to the 2.5 from a pcie system for the fastest experience. I tried them all and Chris chose wisely.
Hello, I am from the Dominican Republic, I have a Power Mac g5 7.2 at 2 GHz, 2.5 GB of RAM, I have a problem, I have tried to install MorphOS, I have tried different versions 3.15 and .3.18 and I get the same problem when trying to install via USB when I download the MorphOS installation screen the screen goes completely white please someone help me I have tried for 6 days and nothing has worked for me it is worth mentioning that I have not tried with CD only with USB. In an air cooled system? I think he mentioned that his machine has a single CPU (2 cores), to my knowledge the only watercoled machines were the dual CPU (quad core) ones.

There is one vendor that Chris bought from that has the proper mac version. He seems to have lots of inventory. Those cards run perfectly well.

Same spec as my G5., complete with its great but Morph OS un friendly graphics card. I have an ATI card that just needs to be firmware hacked to work.

Hi Chris, where did you buy your MorphOS license? I thought MorphOS was dead because there is no option to buy it on their web site.
It’s been a while but pretty sure you buy it within the os itself. They released an update last year around may/June
Its a registration inside morphs itself then you use your pc or mac to fill the rest out when you get the email from the team. Easy easy

Amithlon is dead for many years and uses AmigaOS 3.x which was frozen many years. It is incomparable with MorphOS.

Some require a external disk drive also. Not everything runs df0

My 2.7 is still in use. Getting ready to put new thermal past on after almost 20 years.

I always have used cd not usb as the usb is for the Pegasus boards or the others listed and not for mac. You also need to have an ati card not nvidia

You gotta watch out for a coolant leak... it's a doozy...
If Star Trek taught me anything, you can never fix a coolant leak.. Your only option is to eject the warp core.
Most of the G5s were air cooled. A faster models were liquid cooled. In the PCIe G5s only the quad was liquid cooled...

That is why he went with the air cooled 2.0,2.3. Just move over a 2.5 cpu and life is perfect.
I really hate MorphOS. I always feel like I am using a half-baked Frankestein OS with inconsistencies in UX and UI.
