  • Boxing, Muay Thai, and MMA are all combat sports that utilize striking, but the body positioning & mechanics vary greatly. If you are transitioning between styles, here are 5 differences in these martial arts biomechanics: stance, hips, guard, clinch, and range.

    Wow. I am happy to say that I am a new subscriber. Normally with these mma types they seem to belittle traditional boxing and make it seem inferior, but this man said it how it really is: although boxing may be more limited, boxers have the ability to potentially dictate a fight with their specialized boxing skills. He treats all these sports as equals and that is really refreshing. Each stance is geared towards a specific sport but any of them can be modified to succeed in mma, something I've been trying to tell my peers for a while now. This man is a true fighter, treating all styles as equals. I gleefully await future videos from this one!!!

    Hey Shane, quick question. I like to do all kinds of experiments with fighting. Most of the time I pick up a new technique (of course I after taking time to learn to use it properly) my instinct is to try and add variations to it, make it quicker or simpler, or make it hurt more; maybe modify it to address a different situation than its typically used in. Anyways, one thing I love to play with I'd stance, and I've been wondering, why is it not very common to see a hand positioning with palms facing inward toward you. I've practiced with it and there's doesn't seem to hinder my strikes, blocks or parries any. If you have any insight on why exactly it's common to have palms facing each other or facing outward as opposed to facing inward it'd be great, or maybe just why we position out hands and arms the way we do in general.

    Shane, is using a tall Muay Thai stance against a good wrestler risky because of how close the legs are together and being so tall exposing a lot of area for a shoot takedown? I use a slightly taller stance but I have a lot of wrestling experience so I can still effectively sprawl and move out to one side or the other but I wanted to know what your opinion on it.

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Kevin Denney it is risky, because the taller you are, the more distance you have to travel on your sprawl. But if you can make it work, go for it!

I have a history on Finnish Han Moo Do which is close to Tae Kwon Do, but with some more things mixed to it. So I'm about to have a dilemma soon when we start doing Thai Boxing. I'm not that familiar with it and I'm afraid that practicing a new style might be like teaching an old dog some new tricks. Will it work if I study the new style and then combine it to what already comes naturally to me? Or should I just stick to what I have and enhance it with practice? Any thoughts from you fellow fighters?

    It's simple, boxing is only punching, muay thai is fighting with kicks elbows and fists and MMA is basically fighting with everything you got. That's why the stances are different.

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  6 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      I've had that problem as well -- make sure your are warming up properly before training (side lunges, sumo squats, leg swings, etc.), film yourself to make sure your form is CORRECT, and always stretch/foam roll/rest after training, so you fully recover.

    • @critical2apps
      @critical2apps 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I've reduced it by having a more flexible groin, even though the pain was on the outside of my hips, but it helped me

    This is why arguments can be made that Diaz got McGregor the first time as there wasn't enough time to study since Conor was studying for someone else. Then the tables flipped when Conor had full camp with lots of time to watch past fights and whatever he could find to pick apart Diaz game. Diaz had the time too, I think the two camps are vastly different though in terms of study. Fan of both fighters, I hope they get a 3rd fight at some point.
