my Sidekick, Estin, is the quintessential Soldier. he respects the chain of command. "good soldiers follow orders." his arc culminates when he and Adan (main character) are confronted by Ethier, the BBEG's second in command. Ethier is a warrior almost right out of the legends of old. he wields the magic weapon, has the magical abilities and leads the evil army through fear alone. He is blindly loyal to his superior, which contrasts Estin's journey that taught him that loyalty to the realm may supersede loyalty to the crown. the tensions between Estin and Ethier pit the archetypes of the Soldier and the Warrior against each other, and it mimicks the larger story of overcoming ancient rivalries through more reasonable means. the Soldier wins because the age of the Warrior has passed.

Outstanding discussion and examples! I'm writing a diverse team of companions currently held together by a series of recent events. Their motivation is not nearly as epic as the quest to destroy an uber-powerful ring, but the balance between these protagonists is crucial. As is often the case, one of these characters is a more central focus than the others. This video provides helpful insights on how to write rich and meaningful companions without detracting from the main character. Thanks!
I cannot promise anything because my pipeline is already quite full in terms of planned videos, but I'll definitely try and see if I cannot find a good angle for such a video and fit it in somewhere 🙂
Caverra is a shy girl who shows signs of love towards ravor the protagonist. Whoever is loured into conflict with her will soon find out that she is very skilled with her weapons the only one if her house to beat her constantly is her cousin Issagon who bares the nickname the revenant for good reason. She learns to trust sokea despite his deeply unsettling form, total silence and behaviour. Her desire to protect contrasts sharply with her shyness. During the story she remains shy but her skills and knowledge increase dramatically as she faces challenges. In the end she is forced to decide if she remains loyal to her house or love interest. No matter the choice Issagon will follow. In the end she needs to choose to fight and be killed or leave the unfolding massacre to save herself and possibly Issagon. I still need to throw some dice to determine life, death, wounded, captured, lost or gruesome death.
Issagon the revenant of house Harfoga is a survivalist. Pulling himself out from the most terrible circumstances. Scars paint his body from things he should not have survived. His loyalty to the castellans daughter Caverra stands out. He begins to trust in sokea very early, seeing no reason not to since sokea is helpful and if he would act hostile there was no way they could stop him. In the end he has no opinion of death but he can arguably suffer even more then those lucky enough to die outright.

Can you do a video on animal companions? In my novel I have an animal companion that later becomes more of a sidekick.
