    This is why one of my favorite Dwarves from fiction is Senshi, from Dungeon Meshi.
    He confesses his lack of skills as a blacksmith, but his cooking abilities reflects the determination and hard work associates to his race.

    I've been building my dwarves' background for years while I write about elves. You hit on a lot of things I've thought of but you've mentioned a few new ones. I expect a worldbuilding spree in a few days as ideas begin to stir. 😃

    You know the better part of writing Dwarves?
    They just need a Short background.

    Could you maybe do one about fantasy religions and how they influence war, tradition, economics, imperial spread, and other factors?

    The dwarfs I have already written takes from the once upon a time version. Like the dwarves coming out of an egg that popped from the ground and the magical pickaxes give them their name. But I did use my talent subtlety to turn those ideas into my own. Like how a dwarf needs to touch a pickax in order for name to appear or how the interior of a cottage can change, depending on the dwarfs need. I even took the fact that the dwarfs and gnomes look very similar to one another. So why not make these two different groups connected and use generational divide.

    This has given me a lot of ideas for the dwarves in my setting. Although they’re called gnomes (dwarves in my setting are similar to GoT’s Tyrion Lannister, humans who are very short) in my setting.
    Looking forward to you doing elves next!

    The dwarves in my world are the children of Bes, the god dwarf and oldest god in Africa. My dwarves also discovered the metal that magic weapons are made from.

    I've been wanting to base my "dwarves" after the Germanic versions. Probably have them live shorter lives than elves and give them either paler darker skin.

    • @TheTaleTinkerer
      @TheTaleTinkerer  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Sounds like a great approach - some variety yet still grounded in history/mythology :-)

    I wanted to write the dwarfs with gem-colored and structed skin and hair, but then I realized I took the inspiration unconsciously from Houseki no Kuni. 😅
    But I decided they are made of stone and gems, don't know if their appearance should reflect that. At least they have gems as their eyes and when they die, you can forge a new dwarf out of these eye stones and heart stone.

    Question that comes to my mind though is should you write dwarves in your stories. It does feel like they've been over done over the ages and i question if people would go "ohh great its just a LOTR clone" if they saw a usual dwarven kingdom pop up again
    So i've been playing with a similar type of culture in my world but changing them up so they arnt the "traditional dwarves". Honestly i've found it a pretty tough thing in writing a new world, how to create something or take inspiration from another story, without feeling like you're just making a copy of what's come before

    While I don't have any dwarven characters in the first book in my current project world, I do have plans for when I include them later. I'll be using my own experience working in the mining industry to adapt the idea of the ancient dwarven mine---dwarven OSHA, anyone?

    • @TheTaleTinkerer
