Last In Line and Holy Diver changed my life direction in my teens. No one like Viv, those phrases......beyond my words. What an innovator and top bloke.

So glad to see this interview. I have always been a Vivian Campbell fan. I never really understood the whole story on him splitting up with Dio. I feel he explained it with great respect for Dio even if it was hurtful for him. I still think the first two Dio albums are the best and we're a huge part of that time in metal. It still holds up today.

Great stuff. Love this guy, huge fan since '83, one of my all time favorite guitarists. Dio was my 1st concert in 1984. Totally agree with his comments about bands not being all about one person. I'd really like to see Last In Line.

What a cool guy . Love his positive attitude (,more than egocentric Ronnie), and his talent . So much inspiring for music and way of life

Hmmm. Came here straight from a Dio gripe-athon about Vivian. But I can't see an issue with Vivian. Decent and down to earth guy. You can tell that he's just speaking freely and openly.

Interesting he mentions Ozzy. There was a tidbit in a George Lynch interview I heard that blew my mind. According to him, when he had gotten the Ozzy slot, Wendy Dio (who was managing Rough Cutt) kept calling Sharon Osbourne to shop Jake E Lee to her who would go on to get the job. So here Ozzy and Ronnie were at each others' throats in the press...and their wives are merrily doing business with each other. Two peas in a pod those two crazy broads I tell ya. I'd love to know if Wendy got some sort of a finder's fee or what.

vivian is an amazing guitar player! but i said it once i'll say it again.... that the def leppard crew surely cut viv`s wings over the years to make certain he didnt outshine mediocre phill collen... vivian is in a caliber that phil could never dream competing with...

    • @r1deftone

Agree 100%. But DL is a solid, good paying gig for Viv and he deserves it.

Thats interesting. I have heard similar comments. I think Phil Collin is a great guitarist also. I am glad Viv is doing well and getting to do what he loves.

Guitar playing isn't a competition, 'best' is very subjective. As a huge Campbell fan I would have agreed with this in my younger days, but now I realise that although Collen is definitely not as good a player technically, and his playing style is a bit marmite, there's no denying PC's playing sounds like Def Leppard, all the palm muted echo laden licks, dive bombs and sustainer stuff, love them or not are the things that make you think 'thats a Def Leppard song'. Also any guitarist on here who says they wouldn't be over the moon to play in Def Leppard and never take a solo is lying :)

If Wendy has anything to do with it, the band Dio does still exist in hologram form to pay her salary. Sad.

I always hear him refer to Wendy as Dio's "ex wife". Did Ronnie and Wendy divorce or is it because of Ronnie's death?

    • @flatlander5054

He correct. Once you lose the original.. not the same. Once Viv left Dio.. I wasn’t a fan after that. Vivs solos and playing made me buy his albums.. once Viv left .. Dio went down hill.

Comes across as someone who feels their creativity is being stifled in a big name pop band.

Def Leppard died with Steve Clark. They have not been relevant since he died.
They been living off those early albums for 30-35 years🤦

This guys talent is wasted in Def Leppard, but i'm sure the paycheck is good.

It is not pronounced "App-uh-see" ,
    It's "Uh-piece"
How can Vivian NOT know that?!?!
I know for a fact it is pronounced UH-PIECE
