VIV is the FIRST guitar player I saw two times!! Seen him a total of 12 or so now. But at 13-14 years old he’s the first I saw twice.

I just love Vivian as a player and songwriter.i was a huge Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads fan and when The Holy Diver record came out it just blew me away .he had that heavy raw tone that he got outta his Les Paul that reminded me a bit of Randy. maybe not quite as technical as Rhoads but could bend those strings with a lot of emotion and feel simular to The Blizzard Of Ozz Band. and another thing was both Dio and the Blizzard band were both extremely tight and there was some real magic going on in the development of both those bands and the writing on their early records .i actually got to see Vivian on the Holy Diver and Last In Line Tours and also on the 87 tour with Whitesnake and again later in Def Leppard .but to me he was just a MONSTER on those early Dio records and tours .just like Rhoads on the Blizzard and Diary tours .

I’ve seen Last In Line 3 times so far at a little club near Pittsburgh called Jergels Rhythm Grille. They are fantastic and if you get a chance - definitely see them! So cool be in a small 600 seat venue with Vivian Campbell 10 feet away from you.

Great interview with a legendary guitarist that has never gotten enough credit over the years. I believe that is mostly a reflection of his preference to be in a player in a band vs being his own "brand" in a band, like may of the more famous names. Such a nice, humble dude who really did get screwed by RJD. Yes, Ronnie and Wendy found Viv and gave him an opportunity to move up to the chain more quickly - but Viv has continued to earn all his bones with his incredible playing and contribution with many bands. IMHO, his add with Def Leppard is one of the key reasons why they have continued to stay strong musically and commercially relevant for over 40 years.

Vivian Campbell is one of my heroes. It seems he got a bad deal from DIO at the time for his attribution in writing material for the first albums. He was very young at the time and had no clou about the business side of things. This must have taken a toll on him. Yet, he is being recognized for his considerable part in the Holy Diver album by a whole new generation. That must please him and I am glad for him. He deserves it. Luv' yah, man.

Ronnie never was very easy to work with if he would have treated his band mates better it would have been amazing to see how much farther he and Viv could have gone.

Ozzy and Sharon screwed over everyone just like Ronnie and Wendy had in the exact same ways .both bands were formed as bands not solo projects and that was just the way it was cause Randy would have never joined the band had he just been some hired gun .Randy pretty much created all the material along with Bob Daisley then bob wrote the lyrics and they just kept rehearsing the material till they had it down pat while Ozzy laid passed out under Lee Kerslakes drum riser .Often Lee would sing the guide vocal before Ozzy ever started learning the vocals

    • @datacipher

@@adamwood7597yes, he does a great job. frankly it’s so disrepute to Viv and the entire band to be saying crap like that 30 years later. Yeah we know Steve was great… Viv has now been in the band many fold longer than Steve was. He’s more Def Leppard than Steve now. Some of these dullards would rather have lost the last 30 years of performances and awesome new songs and albums that have happened since then….
