When evaluating this album overall, one shouldn't forget that it also contains "Song To The Siren", which is a definite outlier stylistically. And, to repeat ad nauseam, I don't think JP's earlier reaction was to the right version.

Thank you JP for this - what an amazing "experimental/avant-garde" album. I think I may need to add this one to the collection (that is growing rather awesomely because of your channel!).

When I listened to this album the first time it was a total miss for me. Loved this song though on first listen. It wasn't until I watched the live video of him performing a couple songs off the album that I finally ended up liking the album.

Btw another remarkable writer and vocalist from the 60s that you should hear is Fred Neil, particularly his eponymous 1966 album (the one with Dolphins on it, which Mr Buckley covered in 1973)…

I agree with the previous commenters-- the album feels very different without "Song to the Siren," which followed "Moulin Rouge" and closed side one. The arrangement was very different from the version you reacted to a while back. Either way, this is the furthest out Tim Buckley gets. Look for his hypnotic cover of "Sally Go Round the Roses."

Hi Justin. Dave from London. This is The End, My Only Friend, The End. Certainly an interesting album, with some great songs & instrumentation - not least, this one. I don't know much Tim Buckley, but what I do know is earlier than this, and I know what a brilliant voice he has. And all I will say, without fans saying I don't know what I'm talking about, is that I want to hear more Tim Buckley, but it's his earlier albums I shall head for.

Sweet Surrender please please please (from Greetings from LA). NEVER tired of this song even after 50 odd years.

This one meets my arbitrary book of rules. I was alright with this tune. Wasn't a fan of this album.

You should listen to Lorca, that one and Starsailor are his masterworks. But really everything he pulled out from Goodbye and Hello to Greetings From LA deserves a listen

5 year old Tim, diving into his mom's jazz collection, fixated on Miles Davis! Good call Justin, he puts his influences through his personal blender. Sometimes challenging, sometimes frustrating, but undeniably his own. This tune was a tease for the funk to come! Can't pin a mad genius down! Peace & Love.

I'd recommend to listen to Jeff Buckley's 'The Way Young Lovers Do', Live at Sin-é. In this incredible performance you can hear the striking similarities of these high tones and amazing voice acrobatics Tim and Jeff share.

I believe you have a DVD, biography of the artist to provide more than enough backstory and insights. Hope you can check it out one day.... Interesting character for sure. Not really my thing. This tune was fine. Enjoyed the DVD as I learned a lot about the artist and musical journey but his acquired taste didn't make it with me. All the best.

Right down on the borderline of arranged and deranged. A pleasingly helter-skelter groove that sets off at a lick, rolling downhill without any brakes. Some interesting moments of wild improvisation that sometimes work out well and sometimes almost fall off the wagon again. That voice is like multiple personalities haunting his own performance. The album as a whole is a definitely just one-off listen for me.

As i’ve said before, i think you’d be far more at home with Tim’s Greetings From LA. It’s still provocative, but he tones down the histrionics, sings ‘in tune’ again and moves with the ‘Funk’.

I love Tim Buckley but this LP is beyond my tastes. Happy Sad or z greetings from LA are different beasts and I can’t recommend them enough ❤
