I started taking Ozempic a year ago to lose weight. What I wasn't expecting was how much it would affect my body inflammation. Whereas my body pain level was usually about an 7-8 it's currently down to 2-3. I feel so much better now, it's amazing.
@@ddajani45 In part perhaps, but there was a large decrease in body pain well before I had lost any significant weight. Additionally, I recently had to come off the medication for awhile and the inflammation/pain came right back whereas I stayed the same weight. This week I went back on med, pain went away in days. It's more than the presence of fat that is causing the inflammation.
I started ozempic about 5mo ago but stopped earlier this year. The side effects had subsided mostly but did not help me lose weight. Did help some with cravings but made me feel bad the day afterand very fatigued. I started a weight loss exercise program and healthy diet, no sugar or very little. Naturally lost cravings as body adjusted. Losing weight and feel energetic. Just dont like putting drugs in my body unnessarily. When i get next checkup and numbers, will determine my move.
I follow a healthy lifestyle. My struggle is with PCOS and my hormone imbalance causes me insomnia, elevated cortisol and anxiety about food...which makes me struggle with binge eating. I use Ozempic at the lowest dose for 0.25 for months with minimal side effects. I initially lost 5 pounds and the weight loss has maintained. I like a weekly semiglutide at a low does because I helps eliminate me obsessing over food and it breaks the cycle of binge eating. It helps stabilized my weight. My insurance won't cover it and It is expensive but for me it is worth it, not for weight loss but for eliminating binge eating disorder triggered by PCOS. GREAT VIDEO, thank you!
I suffer from type 2 diabetes. I was started on Ozempic 0.25 mg in Dec 2022. During Jan and Feb 2023 Ozempic was not available anywhere in Australia. In Mar 2023 the doc increased the dose to 0.50 mg. Even though the drug was not available for a couple of months, I still managed to lose 4 kilos and haven't had any nausea...only a few headaches so far. It's end of May 2023 now. I hope to be able to continue using this drug, however it worries me the fact that this drug can cause tyroid cancer and pancreatitis even though these are rare side effects. I'll be gathering more info regarding these risks as time goes by. Thank you for your video Dr Hansen and, please, do follow up on Ozempic pros and cons. Cheers from Aussie land!
This is, by far, the best video I have seen that deals with obesity and it’s ramifications to our health. Thank you so much! Overweight and obesity are so prevalent, and the health effects so devastating, that I think there is nothing more important for our society to mitigate. You have presented information that, if acted upon, could save our healthcare systems from being overwhelmed and make us so much more healthy. These drugs appear to have a role to play but, in reality, unless we change our eating and exercise habits, our health will continue to get worse! What a shame that we are making decisions that are harming us so profoundly.
Thanks, Dr. Hansen, for your logical deduction: prevention of cancer and semaglutide. However, how can you explain the correlation between semaglutide (incretin mimetics) and medullary thyroid cancer Multiple or Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) with the same logic?
Thankful for learning that eat protein and fat at every meal helps with keeping fuller for longer. Ozempic and drugs like it should only be for diabetic patients and those suffering from severe obesity. Skinny/healthy or slightly overweight people need to use other ways to manage weight, especially while there is a shortage of the drug.
What about the risks of getting cancer from taking Ozempic? In animal studies, thyroid cancers were found in the animals who took this drug. If I have a history of thyroid problems and a cousin in her 20s with thyroid cancer, should I avoid taking this drug to help with weight-loss (would be on it for 6 months)? Also, what about the issues around pancreatitis? I also have a history of pancreatic cancer in my family, so don't really want to risk it... Currently, I am not taking it for these reasons, but the benefits of weight-loss would be really nice for the reasons you mentioned in this video...just don't think those benefits outweigh the risks for me atm until more info and long term studies show otherwise, sadly.
I used to ritually clean my plate, anyway, I just can’t now. That to me is a miracle. My body knows when to stop eating and it’s driven to. I’m on week six of Ozempic. Barely dosing at all and only once per week. It makes me nauseous for about three days. The nausea is constantly present but not always glaringly so. I haven’t actually thrown up. I’m miserable anyway with all my other symptoms so it’s something I’ve been willing to endure to see if my body adjusts to it. I’m down 15 lbs. My apple shape barrel midsection has let go of some bloating. I’ll take it. I’m curious how the coming weeks will be as I ramp up to higher dosages.
And check your blood pressure regularly. And of course don't smoke. Ok, that's all you need to know along with the healthy diet and exercise. P.S. I strongly recommend tai chi for seniors, as they need to work on balance to prevent falls, but it's pretty low impact and relaxing.
Yes for the average person that these work for. For others that doesn't work. I had high cortisol... literally nothing else except mounjaro worked. And now my cortisol is lower along with my weight and my inflammation which caused the high cortisol from my autoimmune disease
It would be more appropriate to put metabolic disorder in the center of all those ven diagrams. Insulin Resistance is only one facet of metabolic disorder. There are a whole host of hormones that are out of whack in metabolic disorder not just insulin. And mitochondrial dysfunction is a other hallmark of metabolic disorder and not strictly/wholly a function of insulin resistance. This oversimplifies it.
You're right. It's like this: Avoid simple carbs. Avoid sodium. Avoid saturated fats. Avoid tobacco. Check your blood pressure regularly. And remember to exercise. As you can see, metabolic syndrome is actually a combination of all the bad things that will happen if you don't follow the above advice.
Since you've already covered this in prior videos, fasting, intermittent fasting and Low Carb diets (Keto, LCHF, ect), you could have mentioned those lifestyle methods/changes as opposed to drugs with side-effects, known and unknown. 😢
Why do you assume using semaglutide is independent of the other strategies? These should be done with the medical intervention and after! His topic in this video was meant to be specific. He never discounted the need for a healthy diet and lifestyle here. You've missed part of the assignment.

I hope the answer is no, it cannot. Because this is being used by people who do not have a need for weight loss that is resistant to a bit of exercise and a high veg diet. They just want a 'magic pill.' It has side effects, it is very expensive, and is recommended life long, with possible serious health consequences if you quit.

Our problem is our government allows the food corporations to put all these deadly foods out in the market. High fructose corn syrup needs to be banned, that’s why the obesity rates are higher today from the 1960’s. It’s all about money, the food and pharmaceutical companies are responsible for this obesity epidemic.
