    The worst thing that happened is most people no longer cook their own food due to everybody working. They buy fast and prepared food.

      It's not just that. People who don't or no longer work seem to eat microwaveable meals or even what my mother called "convenience foods" back in the 1960s (hamburger helper, or other such meals made from a box with added proteins). I've run into a lot of people, including retirees and stay-at-home Moms who call THOSE "home cooked meals". That, or eat in fast food restaurants.
      I'm weird. I start with vegetables and meat; maybe rice or pasta. I'm eating the 1970s version of a diabetic diet. The current "GI index" thing seems to emphasize boxed or frozen meals.

      Yes I agree. I was working full time just to come home and order eat out and waste all my money. I started working less hours so that way I can cook at home at least 5 times out of the week.

    I lost a friend to colon cancer last year. He wasn't an alcoholic or a smoker, but he did have health issues and a weak immune system. He was in his mid 50s. RIP Thomas Kutlow.

    My fiancé died of colon cancer at 27. He was a health nut. Ran marathons only ate healthy foods lots of vegies, fruit whole grains etc. When it was discovered we thought it was his appendix’, he died within 18 months.

      Marathons are unhealthy and speeds up your aging. The human body is just not designed to run extremely long distances for long periods of time. That's why short HIIT is the best.

    My friends just lost their 19 year old son to colon cancer. We’ve grown to expect older people to get cancer but terminal colon cancer at 19 is just mind blowing. Devastating 😔.

      My nieces husband just got diagnosed with stage four lung cancer that has spread to his brain.
      I thought 50 years old was young, but to lose someone because of cancer at 19 - especially colon - something else again. 😢 ugh

    Good video. I recently reversed my NAFLD (fatty liver) through the tips provided in this video. No alcohol, white flour, sugar or processed foods. Took me 5 mos. Add in vigorous exercise (I ran 1 mile per day). Brisk walking helps too. Know your familial history and get regular blood screening. My heart improved dramatically and I felt much better.

    My dad's sister died from colon cancer in her early forties and a former elementary school classmate of mine died from it when she was forty. They were both such loving and selfless people and I wish they had gotten to live to be so much older.

      You can't be certain colonoscopy saved your life. Something else could have killed you before colon cancer ever did. And very few polyps ever become cancerous.

    Good morning Dr. Mike from our farm in New Hampshire. New to your channel. Looks like I had the correct information in general to promote good health, but lacked the knowledge to put everything in the right context. So thank you for this helpful video. It makes for a wonderful Christmas present and a good start to 2023. My husband and I are over 70 and still active on our working family farm ( grass fed beef- commercial hay- commercial logging). So we are in the fresh air, countryside. No smoking and limited alcohol. Occasional bacon. Limited grilling/smoking oils. I do IT Fasting in the morning. Thats the good news >>> Now I have to drop weight, walk more, watch the sugar/white carbs/dairy/processed foods. And increase organic vegetables/fiber. Got it! So thank you again for laying it out on the line to get me back on track!

    Great video! I am 52, I had a colonoscopy as a preventative measure ordered by my primary. They removed a precancerous polyp. I can not stress enough how bad people make the procedure seem when it is truly not that bad. If your primary is suggesting you to get a colonoscopy, do it! It is an easy way to prevent colon cancer when you get older.

    So, basically, everything I've been eating, I have to cut down or out. It's so hard eating healthy when you're stuck in a bad eating habit. I don't sleep well, and I've noticed some signs of pre-diabetes, unfortunately. Watching this has reminded me to keep trying.

    Broccoli sprouts…eat your organic greens. Turmeric for inflammation. I’m 74 family has colon, stomach and ovarian cancer. Their eating habits were horrible. They’re all gone. I’m healthy all organic, gluten free for years. You are what you eat I do believe.

    As a Geriatric NP I would also add the importance of staying well hydrated with water. Especially if one increases their fiber intake as you suggest. Otherwise, they have an increased risk of constipation and cramping which can lead to other complications. Hydration must be increased with an increase in fiber intake.

    How much of these cancers and illnesses are also further exacerbated by our environment? Plastic homes, vehicles, containers, packaging, etc. Our entire housing here in the US is just environmental aromatase producing containers. No wonder we see this huge uptick with new cancer formation in millennial and gen Z. Plastics are everywhere and all we can do is try and reduce our exposure till our bodies have had ample time through several generations to adapt to plastic waste in our bodies

    I have lost almost a stone in the last 5 weeks (about 1 and a half stone more to go) and try to eat as little processed food as I can ... I only eat them as a treat on special occasions ... as opposed to nearly every day treats 😐. Now if I eat sugar or salt they taste much stronger than they did and I actually enjoy them more! You have helped me with my diet along with a couple more TH-camrs ... You're doing great work ... Thank you.

    Two things to remember:
    1. *Iodine is required for autophagy: iodine deficiency is associated with much higher cancer rates, especially breast, prostate and cervical.*
    2. *All plant-smoke concentrates the radioactive elements absorbed from the soil: tobacco is worst (with polonium and radioactive lead), but all others must be avoided, too.*

      I'm 35. My generation was 100% brought up learning this stuff. They didn't pay attention. They did their own thing. Unhealthy stuff is simply more tempting than healthy stuff. No one chooses boring. I have no doubt that this will never change.

      If you really are interested. Look at what Europe inhibits compared to the US. For instance, order gummy bears from over there. Look at the difference in ingredients. They actually put fruit extract, and allow no dyes.

    Intermittent fasting is excellent for the gut, as research has found that in a fasting ‘state’, the gut manufactures healthy enzymes that increase the immune system!!

    Well…… in many of the European countries, and in Denmark we don’t ruin the grain like they do in the states… most of the bread is actually much healthier. I don’t know why they remove most of the healthy parts in some countries, but in my country mostly we don’t.

      @@oliviamartini9700 that’s not the point … and we have the same in all over Europe and there’s a lot of poverty in Europe too - so if we can get the more healthier food produced why can’t you do that as basic food in the States
      And a lot of the times it’s not actually more expensive to eat healthier food. I never drink soda or alcohol. I drink tapwater so that doesn’t cost me anything so I can spend on the food instead
      And if you learn how to make your own food from the start, it’s actually a lot cheaper and the vegetables can go a long way

    A study in Japan involving over 40,000 men found that those who had the highest intake of magnesium had a greater than 50% reduced risk of contracting colon cancer.
    A study from the Netherlands showed a 19% reduction in colorectal adenomas (precursors to colon tumors) for every additional 100 mg increase in magnesium intake, there was a 19% reduction in colorectal adenomas (precursors to colon tumors). The researchers also noted that each additional intake of 100 mg of magnesium corresponded with a 12% reduction in colorectal cancer risk.

    Great info, thanks! Even those of us who ‘know’ these things benefit from reminders. Not only are young people increasingly developing colon (and other digestive cancers), they are suffering Crohn’s and IBS at alarmingly increasing rates. Along with everything you mentioned, I believe glyphosate (Roundup) is a key culprit. (I also wonder if it’s responsible for the fairly recent ‘epidemic’ of those sensitive to gluten).

      Not just glyphosate, but many herbicides and pesticides. Glyphosate though is really bad because its super water soluable so its almost everywhere. These people need to all go to prison. It's also amazing there are still peeople out there saying these are safe chemicals. It's just so absurd.

      I’m currently eating gluten free for the most part (I’m not as strict when it comes to products that may contain or have traces of gluten) as I’m not sure if I might have a mild sensitivity. I don’t seem to absorb iron well (while I don’t have anemia, I have low iron saturation and have been taking supplements since 2019, as well as done rounds of iv iron twice). I also find I’m less bloated when not eating gluten (unless I eat too many carbs or another food that can cause bloating).

    Thank you for covering this important topic, Dr. Hansen! I know that you are a big advocate for intermittent fasting. I live without a gallbladder and was told by my surgeons and family doctor that I need to eat small portions of food every 2-3 hours. Otherwise, the bile will damage my intestines. Does it mean that I cannot do intermittent fasting or will my body adapt and release bile only during the window when I am eating? I would appreciate your opinion! Thank you in advance.

      I had my gallbladder removed 26 years ago and have been doing intermittent fasting along with a ketovore lifestyle for the last 10. My blood work is all excellent, I completely reversed T-2 diabetes , metabolic syndrome, and lost 85lbs. NO issues with gut at all! Don't worry, you will be much healthier without eating all the time, just eat like the doc. says!

      50% of m rrna V'd with 2+ shots now have IgG4 antibodies. IgG4-RD is an autoimmune disorder which signals IMMUNE ESCAPE ( body doesn't recognize the spike proteins as invaders ) when infected with CVD. It can cause all sorts of different cancers. The V's also suppress the P53 gene which are.highly important in the bodies function in fighting cancer. We don't know yet if they these IgG4 antibodies will go away or not over the years. With each new infection the antibodies go up. Scary stuff.

    What worries me, Dr. Hansen, is that no one seems to want to talk about health anymore. On sports radio, of all places, they were talking about this. Growing up in the 80's-90's we got nutrition hammered into our little skulls, some of it dubious (food pyramid), but at least we were told to move and not to eat junk food. The radio hosts were saying they ask their kids about nutrition and good health, and they have no clue, no interest. They aren't hearing it at school. They don't see it on TV, or hear it on the radio (OK, I'm showing my age). It really worries me. My father grew up in the 60's and ate a typical 60's meat and potatoes diet, probably without a lot of processed food. Now he has diabetes. I grew up in the 80's with fruit loops and TV dinners, which we usually didn't get because we couldn't afford them - but I'm trying to improve my health because I'm pre-diabetic. My kids eat absolutely terrible diets because they have junk shoved on them from everywhere - usually for free. Where will they be in 20-30 years?

      To answer your last question, they'll be sick in many ways and probably obese like I was. Try to turn them around now before the damage is done. Everything in moderation. Teach them WHY junk food will cause suffering later. If they haven't seen it, watch super size me, and fat sick and nearly dead. Eye opening films!

    Thank you for this information...Finally, you are talking about lowering sugar and carbohydrate consumption because this is not just about colon cancer but also other types of cancer and other diseases...Just take the average consumption of sugar per year now and 100 years ago. It is crazy the consumption of sugars has increased tremendously. :(

      @@Karen-dk1ec on that side of my family only my grand-parents passed and they both passed around 72-75 years old (grandma hit by a car and didn’t survive the surgery and grandpa had a failing liver because of alcohol. he was a war veteran so alcohol helped him cope with being the only one of his unit to survive). So not sure about the good genes yet! Hoping we do 🙏

    *I have one question, is pure palm sugar (such as those from SEAn countries) beneficial compared to white refined processed sugar we have here in the west? Is there any benefits or adverse side effects compared to white sugar and high fructose C.S. in high amounts? Look forward to seeing your response!*
    *Palm sugar processing uses the natural palm tree and/or coconut sap and is boiled and reduced to make the end product, most do not add anything to it other than water to dilute the end product. Most are of yellow and brown color here in the west.*

      From all I have read, sugar is sugar, no matter the source. However, if you need to add sweetness to a food, monk fruit, erythritol or stevia may be good options since they will not cause a rise in insulin. But use these in moderation as the sensation of sweetness on the tongue has the potential to stimulate insulin production.

    The real cause of colon cancer is sedentary lifestyle and uncontrolled stress and anxiety, at least solely focusing on diet won't tell you the whole picture. My family and I are from south east Asia where we live we don't eat bread or corn syrup. I lost one family member to colon cancer and another just had a colon surgery, neither of them ate bread or even had access to corn syrup, though both were under heavy stress and were very sedentary (one was an overweight office worker and a heavy drinker and smoker and one is disabled and does not drink)

      South East Asian countries still eat a lot of carbohydrates though. I lived in Indonesia, visited Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand and ate a lot of carbs there. Rice, rice noodles, buns, very sweet tea or coffee... And people nowadays eat way too often, spiking their blood sugar too much. We have to be careful. But you're right that being sedentary, drinking in excess and being over stressed are bad as well.

      @@Raphanne Where I am from Laos the locals eat mainly sticky rice which has the highest sugar content of all the rice species, rice farmers eat an amazing amount of rice each day though very few are over weight, rice farming is hard work they easily burn it all off, whereas city people walk less than 5km per day and hardly ever sweat but they still eat a lot, so I think carbs are fine if you live a physically active life

      @@sugameltpastriescoffee7186 I don't think anyone on this planet can avoid high fructose corn syrup unless their really wealthy because, for example, coke and every other softdrinks central ingredients is high fructose corn syrup. I doubt anyone even from south east asia have never drank a bottle of coke or any type of softdrinks. Unless you snack on only real fruits and eat plain vegetables and cook your own grass fed meats in your backyard, it's an ingredient that's really hard to avoid. Something that wealthy people can do because they treat certain food as "commoner's or peasants food" and thus they don't eat and drink what most people do. If your wealthy then I can understand but if your from a poor background, I'm pretty sure that high fructose corn syrup can certainly be a part of your diet. Read every ingredient of every food you eat. It's one of the main ingredients of most processed foods.

    This is the best nutritional video I've seen this year. I gave up sugar, cheese, processed flour foods, and empty calories in general two years ago. I feel great. I've used keto and intermittent fasting to get from 190 lbs to 150 lbs while retaining muscle strength. The only grain I eat with any regularity is rye based (WASA crackers) which can be good if you eat them with something else, and they have a lot of good fiber. I don't consume trans fats or seed oils. I've been doing everything right except I stocked up on a lot of canned corned beef because I love it for breakfast and it's keto friendly, but it keeps for years so I'll just spread out the consumption of it over time.

    I had multiple health problem primarily the frequent tonsillitis, migraine, eosinophilia, running nose, drowsiness, frequent symptoms of cold, fewer, acidity, fatty liver, bloating, high cholesterol, elevated bilirubin count, irritable bowl syndrome, leaky gut syndrome, boarder sugar, frequent tooth aches. All gone in one go 20 years ago with liver and gut cleanse. Gone are the medicine too I used to consume around 5/6 of them daily. In 20 years I am yet to get cold fewer or allergies and absolutely no cholesterol, sugar level has crashed and so is my weight.
    You are the best doctor and our body has the amazing ability to heal itself. Believe in self healing and keep listening to very mild weak signals the body sends when it’s in trouble.

    I follow a few TH-camrs who have gotten cancer and they are barely in their 30’s. It’s very scary and confusing since some some are vegan while others are not, so you are not sure what is causing this cancer to arise.

    And also remember, just because a wrap looks healthy and lean doesn’t mean is super healthy. Many coffee shops offer food that comes in a bag; such as their chicken which looks lean but it is already cooked and who knows what type of oils and chemicals it has.
    Unfortunately these days most people don’t even have the time to cook some chicken at home.

    After watching many of these channels the theme is don't eat sugared or processed foods and avoid all seed oils. Well, having checked out just about everything on the current shop shelves that rules out 95% of the stuff in shops including even tinned foods.

    I think we need to look at the increase in cancer in younger people to really find out what is going on. I think that colon cancer that affects older people whose bodies can't tolerate the bad diet, or smoking or excessive alcohol, is for better or worse, expected/understood. It is the increase in younger people that needs to be studied.(Which will also give insight into older people who contract cancer that don't fall into the bad diet etc. categories).
    So, what is new and different?
    Commercial bread found easily in stores began adding an ingredient related to rubber. Are you allergic to rubber or latex? Then, don't be shocked if your stomach swells up and hurts. Lots of bakeries charge more, but won't contain this ingredient. People have begun thinking they are gluten intolerant, when no, they aren't.
    Also, the water they are buying in the plastic bottles. Some of those plastic bottles are leaching some kind of chemicals that smell and taste like chemicals. I don't know if it is stuff that the plastic is being cleaned with , or material that it is being made with or most likely both. A lot of the plastic for these recycled bottles has changed. It includes what tires are made of.
    And another big reason- our cellphones.
    More likely- smartphones. One woman went on TH-cam and told people how she developed breast cancer exactly where she would frequently tuck her phone into her shirt (or was it her bra?).
    People carry their phones in their pants pockets or tucked into their low cut jeans.
    These phones are wrecking our eyesight. Try putting your phone into two clear plastic baggies (doubled up). Use phone through them for 4 weeks. If you are heavy user, you only need 2 weeks to see what I am talking about). The bags will get cloudy.
    Anyway, look to what has changed. Plenty of people have lived long lives on bad diets and vices. Some people didn't. Everyone's body is slightly different. It is what is happening now with high numbers of younger people that needs to be investigated.

    I had a colonoscopy when I went on Medicare insurance I think 66 yrs old the doctor said come back in 10 yrs then I had my heart checked out the doctor said I was good to go then I had my lungs x-rayed doctor said they looked good so I went and rebuilt a 1991 42 ft sail boat which kept my A1C down to 6.1 for next 5 yrs after pandemic I sold boat and came home for last 4 months and barbecued all summer now my A1C is up to 7.4 and my BP is all over the place so I’m so great full for all the doctors on u tube for reminding me what I need to do to get healthy again

    Forgot to mention recent bloodwork shows my blood sugar is high and I am pre-diabetic. I’m not overweight and as I stated, my eating habits are healthier than most.… Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions you may have.

      Blood type diet by Peter D'adamo much more than just a diet. Check the consensus among forums or groups.

      Diet and lifestyle impact health. Drinking drinks with HFCS is def a major impactor and there are many thin obese people. So we can not use that as an indicator.

      Yes that is why I am puzzled. Very low meat intake, high plant protein. No refined sugar. Only Stevia. No alcohol no smoking. No prescription drugs. Wondering how much of the environment causes insulin resistance, although no one is talking about that…

      @@creativesolutions902 I’ve read that stevia can raise blood sugar in some people. I’m not sure if that’s true or not but might be something to look into. I still have it at times, however have also started to use allulose as well. Also, how many carbs do you get from the plant foods? All carbs, even the healthier ones, turn into sugar through digestion. That’s not to say that carbs are necessarily bad, just that like everything else, too much may not be a good thing.

    I pretty much figure living life at all causes cancer at this point. How to avoid cancer:
    1. Don't eat
    2. Don't drink anything, even water is contaminated now
    3. Don't breathe
    4. Don't touch anything
    5. Don't ingest any substance at all actually
    6. Sleep but don't sleep too much or too little
    7. Don't look at things
    8. Stay cold and hot simultaneously
    9. Exercise every minute
    10. Get enough rest.
    11. Avoid the sun but also get enough sun.
    12. Avoid humans but also interact with them.
    13. Avoid technology.
    14. Don't think too much but don't be thoughtless.
    15. Don't go to work or get a job.
    16. Probably just don't come to Earth

    Insoluble fibers are hard to find. What do you recommend Dr. Hansen? Most sold appear to be soluble fiber. The Insoluble also seem to contain sugars a lot. I currently take soluble physillium husks for my high LDL cholesterol which is genetic and hormonal, because my diet has always been really good, there isn't much room for improvement unfortunately 😞

    Lots of correlations but little direct evidence in sugar, carbs, etc. Exercise and eat a balanced, nutrient dense, diet is key. Full on restrictions always fail and is unrealistic.

    I take ! kilo of sugar every 6 or 7 weeks, mainly in my tea. My diet is low in fats, but I'm not fanatical about it. I never eat white bread, always wholemeal, and quite a lot of it. I gave up fried food 25 years ago, as I consider it unhealthy. Tobacco is out and alcohol severely limited. I avoid smoke whenever possible and dont eat smoked fish, but if offered a kipper once in a blue moon, I would eat it. Never eat processed meat, rarely other kinds of meat, but often eat sardines or canned pilchards with lots of fruit and veg, plus a pint of full cream milk every day. Porage oats highly recommended. I dont do fasting, but at 85 i'm still a healthy weight and can wear the same clothes that were made to measure 60 years ago. I take lots of exercise including 4-mile runs.

      Very healthy! I'd still avoid the oats though as they're heavily sprayed these days with herbicides, unless organic. Go easy on the milk too.... it's very mucus forming.
