As usual a great video Michael! You are one of my top 3 on TH-cam that I go to when I want comprehensive information regarding Vinyl and just music and equipment in general. I enjoy the extra little bits of historical insight that you include as well such as what you did for this Let It Be album. Thanks for doing these types of videos!

I agree with the assumption of the Beetles bringing hope to a shattered nation.
I was in the hospital when the boys were on Sullivan, getting last rights from a priest 3 times in two weeks.
I was seven years old, jumping up and down in my hospital bed when they came on.
My Mom always said it was then when she knew I’d recover.
    Thanks to the boys!
Unlike most, I had heard the Beatles well before the Ed Sullivan appearance. My cousin had seen them play a club near London and said the were the best part of her trip. She also said they were on the BBC often, so I built a short wave radio to receive the BBC. I think it was the BBC WORLD SERVICE we were able to tune into.
I’m still broken hearted about the murder of out President, but the Beatles arriving did lift the dark clouds and brought a great deal of joy to a 11 year old boy!
    Peace,
    DrRick

Thanks for bring that up, Michael! I grew up in the '60s and '70s and try telling people how rare images of the Beatles were before John Lennon's death in 1980. Usually, the only poster you saw on peoples wall was the White Album poster, and the photos were the White Album photos were generally the only pictures you saw. In the late '70s Capitol included a 24"x24" folded poster of the 'Let it Be' album cover with LPs.There were exceptions with headshop posters (which were often sepia toned) and a few blacklight posters, but they were rare. Then with John's death and the flood of memorial magazines came an explosion of Beatles posters. The first one I remember seeing was the photo from "Beatles For Sale" LP, and it was HUGE, like 60"X40". This was also the era when you first started seeing the Parlaphone records in shops. I was the first person I knew with Parlaphone Beatles records and that was Christmas of '79. I'm not saying they weren't available, but they were just not sold in record departments of major stores like Sears, JC Penny, K-Mart until then. Maybe some big city record stores had them but they really didn't become widely available until '79-'80, and after John's death.

That was great, I enjoyed your review. Your right the Ed Sullivan performances are terrific as well as the Anthology series. I enjoy hearing the demos as much as the original released versions. I was surprised by how good the newest red double album 62-66 sounds compared to the copy I bought in the late seventies. I thought they did a great job with that one. I’d never heard these songs sound that lively with bass.

Dear Michael, loved the video, so good to have such a great sounding vinyl boxset, after all the poor sounding bootlegs! Just one point, the title Get Back has nothing to do with 'geting back to playing live' it has a much darker meaning, if you heard the Black Album you would know what Get Back is actually referring too. I'd happily write an article about it, if you are interested.

  • @syater

I read an article in late spring of 1969 about what the writer said would be the next Beatles album. Calling the album Get Back, he listed a number of song titles that I of course was excited to be reading, She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, Octopus's Garden, Dig a Pony, Don't Let Me Down, Polytheme Pam, etc. So when Abbey Road was released later the year I thought, what happened to all the other songs I read about? I distinctly remember being somewhat mystified.
Later, in 1970 I came across the book version of Let It Be as shown in this video. No one else I knew had it or even knew such a slipcase book version existed until they saw my copy.
The story here is fascinating and I'd almost be tempted to buy the new edition so as to read the story about how it came about. What holds me back is I've never enjoyed the album as a whole. I love some of the songs but it remains my least favorite Beatles album. But I have heard some of the Beatles conversations hashing out what they really wanted to do about playing live and do with the songs. I heard this on "Pop Goes the 60s," here on TH-cam. The conversation made it sound as if they may not have been actually trying to make a new album at the beginning of 1969, but simply wanted to film a TV show of the Beatles playing live.

I was a pro musician in South Africa in those years and I bought the Let it Be album the day it came out. British imported pressing with the book.
The book, however, was titled Get Back and I knew then that Abbey Road was probably after that but released first.
This proved to be correct as later news surfaced that there were various legal issues which had to be overcome due to Let it Be having been produced by Phil Spector and this led to a delay in the release of the album. To fill the gap, EMI, the British label, released an album called The Beatles with tracks such as Ballad of John and Yoko, Old Brown Shoe, Lady Madonna etc. This album came out in January 1970 and today seems something of a rarity. I still have my original Let it Be book release, Abbey Road, The White Album and The Beatles, together with another 15 or so Beatles albums which I bought in South Africa as they were released.
A truly wonderful 6 or 7 years of of memories and tribute to a group that utterly redefined music and songwriting for ever !!
Thank you for your input !

I bought both the vinyl boxed set and the CD boxed set. Plus, I also got several copies of the different exclusive edition and the regular LP edition. Here's what I found:
The vinyl boxed set was pressed at Optimal Media in Germany. Because I suspect that Optimal uses an inferior quality of vinyl which we don't use in North America, I have found the Optimal pressing to have a rumble or excessive surface noise. Atleast all the records were centered correctly and were flat with no warps. I mention this because the "White Album", in the 2LP format, was pressed by QRP in the U.S., and I went through 4 copies and couldn't get a copy that was centered correctly and the LP2 had warps and the tone arm acted like it was on the ocean. The vinyl quality was great but the production quality was lacking. I ended up getting the boxed set, pressed by Optimal, and got flat properly centered records. Again, with the Optimal pressings, they had the excessive surface noise.
The single black vinyl pressing was pressed by GZ's Precision Record Pressing in Canada and was a higher quality than I am used to with QRP pressings. It sounded great and has much less surface noise than the Optimal pressings.
When the "Let It Be" album was released in the U.S. in 1970, there was a bootleg LP "Get Back To Toronto". This album was closer to the intended "Get Back" album rather than the "Let It Be" album. The "Get Back To Toronto" album used raw tape mixes and nothing had been added to them with no overdubs or noise reduction, like the Spector versions.
The CD boxed set is great. The CD's were manufactured by GZ in the CZ Republic and are great.
A correction about the books included with both boxed sets, although the material inside is the same, the books are NOT the same. The book in the vinyl box is larger and the covers are glossy. The book in the CD box is smaller and the covers have a matte finish.
If you have the money, I recommend buying the boxed sets. For the "Let It Be" album a later audiophile version of the original mix is just fine, such as what came in the earlier stereo box. The "New" mix went by the mixing notes of the Phil Spector version, but the "New" mix is tweaked a little. The best thing about these new "Let It Be" boxes are the books that came with them. But, the fancy version of the book can be purchased separately an retails for $60. Buy the 2CD version and the book and you will save $100. and get as much Beatles as you could ever want.

    • @AnalogPlanet
      @AnalogPlanet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Seriously? How on earth could the shrink wrap damage the vinyl? Unbelievable question.

@@apollomemories7399 Hey 👋 I love ❤️ your personality and how you roll. Great 👍 response Michael. But for instance, I ordered U2 Joshua Tree 30 anniversary. When it arrived, the shrink was so tight (probably on for years) it was damaged. And obviously the tightness caused may have it? Also, I’m sure you’ve heard, or I teach my kids there are no bad questions. But I respect you and enjoy all your stories. Keep punching 🥊 😊. Evan

@@evanshear5378 Hi, I'm not Michael, nor pretending to be.
Put it this way - obviously if the shrink was too tight it may very well cause warping problems, but you'll be the judge of that. If otherwise the shrink is not too tight then you won't experience any problems. Basically, it's down to common sense - of which there ain't no rules or recipe.

Won't be doing "Tatoo You". I heard it's way over-compressed. Someone posted somewhere that it sounded as if it was encased in a bar of soap! Just get a Bob Ludwig RL mastered copy and you're done!

When are you coming to the UK again Analogue Planet Man? I would absolutely love to come to one of your appearances. I really really would. I can't afford the high end equipment you have and just have a very modest Technics hi-fi SH-EH790 with a BUSY MTT1 turntable which is apparently the only BUSH turntable they ever got right with a 5 star review from I believe WHAT HI-FI magazine and yeah it's sound is acceptable but my God I would love to hear the beautiful sounds you present.

I got the deluxe vinyl set and played it back to back with the original US pressing and although I noticed differences in the remix I didn’t like it more or better. Yet I don’t hate it by any means either. Kind of an apples & oranges thing for me.
