You found a highly skilled, honest, fair, craftsman who does super high quality work at value and delivers on schedule. That’s like a super unicorn. Congrats on finding such a rare specimen of marine tradesman!
That is a professional job for a good price, well done Stuart. It's nice to see another Brit doing great work abroad. I make gantries for boats in Greece (normally when not locked down) and I am a professional Fabrication, Welding Technician. Your comment about "not asking" is absolutely true. Many boat owners get ripped off by hiked prices all over the world, so don't be afraid to ask around.
He is some skilled fabricator to make something so absolutely exactly what you want. I absolutely love it. He should start a business solely making solar arches that consumers can simply cut in the middle and fit to their boat's width - if that is possible.
Buy the way, 20-22 min is kinda the standard average of the sailing vlogging system of most successful vloggers on a weekly basis. Often the shorter ones, 8-10 min kinda leave one hanging or the detail zips by rather quickly and we all want to see our faves for a bit longer. 🙂🙂 ❤️⛵️
So what do you think of the end result?! Worth the extra budget? :) (Edit: we were asked to publish photos and more details about our arch, so we've gathered it all in this blog post: ryanandsophie.com/details-about-polar-seals-stainless-steel-arch/)
Definitely worth the extra price. Sophie was right although I sympathize with Ryan's attempt to save money :) But don't let it go to your head Sophie :)
Phenomenal job Stuart from Arcglow Inox Almerimar! You sir are a real craftsman. The arch on the boat looks great! Money well spent - functionality and beauty.
The thing I love about arches, as Ryan's pull-up (?) demonstrated, is the added hand hold overhead. It may not be as important on a dual helm boat, but on a single helm having something firm to hold while stepping around the helm is priceless. What a great job!
My hat of to you Ryan you handled this whole project very well and with a lot of wisdom especially considering the pressure's you were under. Love to see a man act like a man. well done both of you
That arch looks great! Can't wait to see the dingy on it to see how it all looks under sail. Now you need some fishing pole mounts back there to catch some fish while under way.
Ryan & Sophie it's obvious that Polar Seal is your boat. I've never seen a lady (Sophie) more in love with a boat in my life. Sophie you care about Ryan, that's obvious too. But the work and care that you both have put into her amazes me. Love your video's weather they are long or short there always informative and just plain old fun to watch. I wish you both fair winds and calm sea's on all of your journey's.
Sophie that was a fun film, a great way to present this project and gave us lots of details. So interesting to find such a quality Englishman craftsman living in Spain. And the end result, defiantly worth it. Cheers Warren .
Love the arch and how smashing the integration looks !!! It is good that your relationship afforded conversation and the willingness to "ask." Strong relationships build beautiful projects together !! 🙂 ❤️⛵️
GORGEOUS! The Arch, I mean. Sophie ALWAYS is. I LIKE how it turned out. You two are So GREAT together, you Compliment each other very well. Ryan's Level-headedmess keeps a lid on Sophie's bubbly exuberance, yet Sophie's personality keeps Ryan from sinking into the rut of simple practicality. This way the two don't get Carried Away and Shoot Off into Space, nor do you lapse into the doldrums of Same Old Same Old or SSDD. WONDERFUL! And the Seal looks Great, too, like she got a Big Spoiler on the back, to keep her Steady at 85 knots. WORTH EVERY DIME.
Looks brilliant guys, that looks real good, that guy Stuart is sure good. Just think about one thing though, if you find yourself having to hide from a hurricane it is best to be able to take them solar panels off, of course you do not want them damaged or ripped off but the main thing is windage, the less windage the boat has the better off you are, I have been put over on my side and thats with everything off and stowed below, but because of less windage the boat could come up again and was not pinned down, just something to think about.
You guys Rock. This was the best episode yet. I think it was very informative and I learned alot. I always wondered how the arches were designed and made. The arch looks great and was built well.
Avec un tel enthousiasme (force 10 ! ), on ne peut rien vous refuser. Stuart in Almerimar, ne pouvait que faire un beau portique. Belle réussite. Je m'abonne pour suivre vos aventures.
Well that was enjoyable. A new custom made arch in about 20 minutes, how cool is that. Your passion continues to ooze through in your videos and Ryan is loosening up! Great stuff cant wait to see the Davit's in action. Keep 'em coming!
I think it looks very pleasing to the eye. It all lined up well with the existing form of the boat. Great form and function make the arch a huge success. Very nice job! GOD bless, JC
Wow, what a reasonable price! We paid a bit over $10k U.S. to custom fabricate and install our arch and davits. They are really strong and could probably lift the aft of the boat, though.
Amazing the cost difference around the world but i do believe (to an extent) you get what you pay for. We have seen some work done from different parts of the world that have been a bit less than impressive. - Ryan
Doing those how to videos seems to have cured Ryan's camera shyness. Great arch and explanation, it looked too easy! Hope the watermaker install went as well.
Well done guys, looks excellent. One of the best I have seen. It's always worth doing the best you can with your budget otherwise you end up dissatisfied and later spending more to correct it.
I would absolutely love that arch on my boat. It is JUST right, just perfect. Only downside is it cost three times what my poor old Halcyon 27 cost me, ha ha.
Hi guys, I've just started watching your vids and they are brilliant!!..... Just wanted to say thanks for being so open about pricing, its great to actually understand the costings involved in preparing a boat for long term living..... Other videos I've watched just aren't open about what they've spent!!...... pleasant sailing :)
I did like the video and the arch came out beautiful he did a good job. In my former life I used to build all kind of things out of steel and appreciate good craftsman ship and yes there are a lot of people who say they fabricators but need to find other ways to make a living. Thank you for the video I enjoy all of the refit videos and am looking forward to more.
Wow! What a great addition to the boat. I can really appreciate the skill of a talented welder. When I was in airframe and power plant school my instructor told me he would give me a passing grade on the welding block on a promise I would never weld anything on or for an aircraft and that I would get a competent welder. Lol. He never said anything about boats tho lol. I'm sure you'll see just how nice that extra shade is when in the south pacific. I learned how to sail in the China sea on a Catalina with a bimini the size of a large umbrella and mid day in the cockpit was brutal. It was always a fight to find shade and then keep it without someone else wanting to put you over for that small space. I didnt see any fishing rod holders tho. Ha ha, with Sof's luck fishing you it might be a loss to bother with them. Sorry Sofie 😉
Hi Sophie and Ryan, This is Tommy withe the Hanse 531 FLYER II, who disturbed you briefly having your lunch last Wednesday. It was great ‘hi’ to you in Almerimar. I am sorry we did get to talk a bit more, but we had to get our mainsail fixed and move on asap. We sailed the day after and arrived in Lagos on the 13th, and are going to stay until the first week of July, when I will get back with the family, to sail her the last of the way to Denmark. New arch looks great 😊⚓️
Brian, I am an oldish guy from South Africa, boy, I had the best laugh in a long time. never bet against a lady. you should see your facial expression after losing the bet. ok, I must be with you on the argument that the prIce was right. she is also so pretty. happy sailing you guys !!!!!!!.
Very nice looking arch and good decision integrating it with the stern rail. I'm putting 320 watts of flexible solar panels on my B-40 Bimini. I will let you know how it turns out.
Great addition to your yacht. Have you test loaded those dinghy davits. I don’t see any braces or strong back to help reinforce the horizontal tubes. A bit of trivia. The bow has the Pulpit. The stern has the Pushpit.
Hi Andrew, Not yet.... our dighy is only 32k... if it can hold me bouncing around hanging on it i'm sure it will do just fine... but time will tell. - Ryan
I am glad someone else mentioned it pushpit is in the back and pulpit is in the front. I first heard them say it and thought what the heck is the dinghy doing on the front.
Good Video ! it was not that long it was a good video. heck, i think i have a 45 minute video up. now thats long. That Arch Looks Very nice. That Guy Looks Like He an Old Pro at that and He's done Quite a few of those. He's a incredibly skilled Tig Welder too. Those Welds are Beautiful.
I was looking at some tools your welder was using they weren't state of the art but it turned out great, for me there is only limited space on a boat and the arch gives you more space to get things up out of the way and more utility....thanks for the vid and its nice to see a little bit of spain
Great result integrating into the boat beautifully. I could fully empathise with Ryan during the initial fit worrying if it was ok. Excellent tradesman, only downside, was that item 🤔 in the workshop 🤭

I do agree Peter! - Ryan
Thank you so much guys, after more than a year stuck with my arch I now know how to do it! Merci beaucoup!
A craftsman that takes pride in their work is worth every single penny most of the time...
Oh No, Disaster!! We’ve caught to all your videos. Now what do we do. You guys always put a smile on our face. Thanks so much
Thanks Karen.
It turned out perfect. Looks like it was factory integrated in the design. So much more solar also=more hairdryer time, lol.
YES!!!!! And water heater for showers :)
That is a professional job for a good price, well done Stuart. It's nice to see another Brit doing great work abroad. I make gantries for boats in Greece (normally when not locked down) and I am a professional Fabrication, Welding Technician. Your comment about "not asking" is absolutely true. I knew Ryan was toast as soon as Sophie wanted the job done properly 😂😂😂 great call Sophie 🤩
He is some skilled fabricator to make something so absolutely exactly what you want. I absolutely love it. He should start a business solely making solar arches that consumers can simply cut in the middle and fit to their boat's width - if that is possible.

For sure!
That sail locker block iz going to save backs
Hey looks great, new subscribers here. Look forward to watching more videos to come and going back to see what you already have posted. 👍🇨🇦
Definitely worth the extra price. Sophie was right although I sympathize with Ryan's attempt to save money :) But don't let it go to your head Sophie :)
It looks wicked pissahh no Sophie and Ryan and mr. Welder you guys killed it. Beautiful integration and 650 Watts will definitely make your hair rise
that welder Is a true craftsman.. he did a amazing job
Stuart is the man!
After watching many of your episodes, I have decided that Sophie should take up being a standup comic. She is very funny.
Phenomenal job Stuart from Arcglow Inox Almerimar! You sir are a real craftsman. The arch on the boat looks great! Money well spent - functionality and beauty.

That arch looks great! Can't wait to see the dingy on it to see how it all looks under sail. Now you need some fishing pole mounts back there to catch some fish while under way.
She is looking like a proper cruiser boat now guys. Perfect. You will smile every time you move your dinghy 👍

Your arch did turn out awesome.
Sophie that was a fun film, a great way to present this project and gave us lots of details. So interesting to find such a quality Englishman craftsman living in Spain. And the end result, defiantly worth it. Cheers Warren .
The Arch looks great....really makes Polar Seal stand out...

Yes Jim... need that Spoiler to hold her to the water.... she moves too quick :) Ryan
Arch turned out very well, and is very well integrated with the pulpit. Solar fits perfectly too. Tres bon!
Wonderful video. Your fabricator needs more credits, the arch is beautiful!
We do agree! -ryan
Go Sophie! The Triangle of Power always wins! Besides, it is the right thing to do!
Hey Ryan, I get the feeling if Sophie wins,.. You win
Allways & For Sure !
Happy wife, happy life.
I'm glad it worked out for you. looks good and no more blowing up the dinghy.
It look stunning
Looking good. The boat does too. Great video. Thanks.
I think it looks very nice Stuart has such skills to cut and weld etc
Always listen to Sophie Ryan because obviously she knows best 😀😀😀
Looks brilliant guys, that looks real good, that guy Stuart is sure good. Excellent video, not long at all. Total win, win project and it looks really really nice! Thanks for sharing.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😍⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
Congratulation Sophie, you are a real "Sophie sticate" french lady. It's a beautiful result
Finally a proper Sophie intro to a vid. Totally worth the money.
The correct term is “push pit”. Nice video.
It looks great. Always nice when thing's work out. Good for you 👍
He is a skilled tigwelder!
Hands poor hands would disagree. The uv Ray's from that cook your skin.
@@metalmatter1206 Yeah. But he has welded enough to know what he needs to do.
You guys Rock. This was the best episode yet. I think it was very informative and I learned alot. I always wondered how the arches were designed and made. The arch looks great and was built well.

Thanks! We love it already :)

What a great addition to Polar Seal..Looks great. I dont mind longer videos.
Very much worth the extra cost.
It looks fantastic! I think you made the right decision to integrate, rather than keep it independent from the pulpit.
In the end, i do agree Jim! - Ryan
The new arch looks great! Really enjoyed your video summary, thanks.
Looks really good. I like all the little details you thought of adding like the pulley block, such a great idea.
I think it looks very pleasing to the eye. It all lined up well with the existing form of the boat. Great form and function make the arch a huge success. Very nice job! GOD bless, JC
Good job ,integrated looks much better and stronger, not taking sides of course :)
Wow, what a reasonable price! We paid a bit over $10k U.S. to custom fabricate and install our arch and davits. They are really strong and could probably lift the aft of the boat, though.

Hi Ryan & Sophie
Really good, lots of food for thought.
Les
Doing those how to videos seems to have cured Ryan's camera shyness. Great arch and explanation, it looked too easy! Hope the watermaker install went as well.
I'm still camera shy... just getting in the pool slowly :) Ryan
Well done guys, looks excellent. One of the best I have seen. It's always worth doing the best you can with your budget otherwise you end up dissatisfied and later spending more to correct it.
Hi Roy, in the end i agree with you. do it right or dont do it. Ryan
I would absolutely love that arch on my boat. It is JUST right, just perfect. Only downside is it cost three times what my poor old Halcyon 27 cost me, ha ha.

Video didn't feel long at all because it was so informative.
Thanks for sharing, very informative and as always fun to watch.
I'm so glad it was 'The Price is Right' and not 'Jeopardy' :-)
Excellent job guys, that arch looks superb and fits Polar Seal perfectly. Congrats on a great choice.
I did like the video and the arch came out beautiful he did a good job. You guys are so funny!!! Love the humour of Sophie….té trop drôle 😂😂😂 love your videos❤stay safe!!!
Beautiful just like you Sophie!!. love you guys as always looks very shippy in keeping with the lines of your boat which is important in my opinion
Hi Sophie and Ryan,
This is Tommy withe the Hanse 531 FLYER II, who disturbed you briefly having your lunch last Wednesday. It was great ‘hi’ to you in Almerimar. Wonderful! Great meeting you Tommy! Good luck with the boat! - Ryan and Sophie.
Great video guys, I think one day we will be doing the same. Thanks for sharing. Leaving to pick up the boat tomorrow. Super excited now :)
Awesome!

C'est un très beau travail, félicitations, Richard
Just found you guys great videos as I’m installing a arch a watermaker and lithium batteries learned a lot from your videos thks and cheers
Awesome! glad it helped! Ryan
Very nice looking arch and good decision integrating it with the stern rail. I'm putting 320 watts of flexible solar panels on my B-40 Bimini. I will let you know how it turns out.
Looks great! Video length is okay with me!
looks great. looks like part of the boat not an after thought or add on.

Really nice job. Glad that you got a good, honest, tradesman.
Great addition to your yacht. Have you test loaded those dinghy davits. I don’t see any braces or strong back to help reinforce the horizontal tubes.

You can be right, or you can be happy! Go with HAPPY!
Great Video- I have been thinking about getting an arch made on my Beneteau- this was very helpful- thank you!!
Ryan, you have a beautiful French lady who wants to keep the boat beautiful too.... nuff said!
Thank you Ryan, et Merci Sophie . . . this vlog was most informative and very insightful. Much appreciated! Keep up the great adventure. Bon voyage!
Hi Roger, thanks for the comment. If you have any topics you would like to see covered please let us know. - Ryan
Sophie, my heart breaks for the fire at Notre Dame and 500 years of beautiful history. Ut benedicat Dominus et custodiat autem populus de Gallia
If only Sailing Soulianis had known about Stuart!
Great result integrating into the boat beautifully. I could fully empathise with Ryan during the initial fit worrying if it was ok. Excellent tradesman, only downside, was that item 🤔 in the workshop 🤭
Extraordinary work! Super fine!,,
The welding is great.
long is good! Great video guys. The arch is perfect!
Acompanhando vocês daqui de Natal, RN, Brasil. Bons ventos!
Excellent arch!! I love it.
Looks great. Good tip: Watch the workers making your arch: Like antifouling paint - did they apply the expensive stuff you paid for? Or is it house paint tinted the same color? (Is that real anchor chain or that garbage that comes from that place in Florida?) With a stainless steel arch - you want to make sure you get the gauge of metal (wall thickness), and alloy number that's required - not something that looks great until you sail over the horizon and get some salt on it.
TH-camr Colin Furze does a lot with tubing. Scroll through the thumbnails of his (crazy) videos and select the images that have tubing in them. You'll see him laying it out, cutting the curved ends and welding. I know some of the techniques involved, but I still learned a lot from him. From his videos you can also see how to DIY a project like this, but also why its worth paying a professional. And after seeing one of Furze's videos you'll be able to immediately tell the shop you're thinking of hiring cuts the first complex angle (for your project or for someone else's). Do they know what they're doing or just winging it?
Also as a former carpenter, figure it out/fix-it, go to guy: If you don't know the task there's no way you can trick the worker into thinking you do. You can however, judge the level of confidence/insecurity of the worker - never work with flakes, liars, or people quick to anger. Good people can hem and haw a bit that's okay. And make sure you pay them what the job is worth. Estimating and doing the work are often two completely different skill sets. If a good person makes an honest mistake and has to buy more materials - be a good person and pay for most of that cost.
All good points. The person making our arch was a real pro and use to make a lot of movie sets and other things, so he is creative and good at his work. I believe he has made over 300 arches for boats so the guy understand needs and requirements.
Supper job guys
Nice video and cool “top gun” suit!
It looks great guys!!! I think I will do the same when I had my arch!!!
Salut! Beaucoup de temps et d'amour dans votre bateau et vos vidéos, j'adore! Je vais m'abonner pour suivre vos aventures!
That's an awesome idea! If I was you guys I would add solar panels to it as well more power is always better Haha! But then it would help with power for your slat to fresh water system and gives you more freedom inside of your cabin!
Ryan. Remember a better looking boat resells at a better price. Glad Sophie won out. 😎
Worth the budget. Ryan just remember Happy wife Happy Life.
SV IOREK I couldn’t have said it better!
Nice short video about an arc install.
Keep 'em comming love your videos.
Good decision, guys! Looks totally awesome.
Going for the best looking option is also a good choice in terms of the resell value of the boat.
Totally agree! Even though we rarely think about the day she needs to go on the market :) (we love this boat too much for that 😊)
