Mads - YOU are a Rockstar ! Thanks to both of you for making every sunday evening enjoyable , fair winds and following sea and lots of love from Denmark
I am three weeks into binge watching your channel and I’m thoroughly impressed with your process and attitude, your boat is certainly coming along to being a beautiful yacht. It’s a shame you cannot have a shed full time. Keep up the great work as I’m sure you will. All the best.
Oh no, he's killed the missus already!! Glad the storms didn't affect you too much, I'm 700 miles north and we got a little snow and not much rain, take care guys.
We just got an offer accepted on a Malo 36 ♥ Strongly suspecting we'll take it to Gosport to work on it with a membership at MAKE. This video was super useful!
I would put brackets on the stainless frame to hold the scuba tanks. Just a couple of loops and something to ratchet strap the tanks down so they won't shift around.
Super work coming up with a work-around for the solar arch frame, Mads! And thanks for the tour of the MakerSpace. Every community should have something like that!
I have workshop envy. You are so lucky to have that Maker workshop so close to you. We don't have anything like that in our area :( Hope you weathered the storms OK. Hopefully we won't have anything like that in the Caribbean this coming summer... please? Take care & say Hi to Ava
Nice job Mads and the typically British understatement must be rubbing off. Eunice was the biggest storm to hit the south of England in 30 years and storm Franklin is due anytime. Stay safe and fingers crossed that the High-Pressure forecast for Thursday gives you a solar panel weather window.
Ran into the same problem with on site welders when needing new brackets for my navigation lights on the bow and stern rails. First guy strung me along for a while and then no showed. The last guy charged me an arm and a leg, but I was ready to move on, and am happy to have it done. I am excited to see the performance of your solar array. Cheers from Seattle, WA, US
Very cool makerspace. I googled for one near me, & whaddyaknow, there is one! I bet it took you a lot less time to make the arch adapter in the workshop than you wasted phoning around for months to try to get someone out to the boat to do it & it will be such a relief to be able to move that to-do post-it to the done pile.👍🏻
Glad to hear that you're weathering the current spate of storms safely, it really is foul out there at the moment. I'm currently 75% through rebuilding my house and I really do get inspiration to keep going by your fantastic energy and attention to detail. The description of how long it took to polish the arch had me laughing out loud! I will attack some of my least favourite jobs tomorrow with renewed vigour!!
I find it amazing everywhere you go you find a workshop and good people to help you. Really happy the DIY is still a thing. I really like the two of you so I will still watch even when you get Athena to perfection and the DIY becomes repairs that every boat must perform. Keep living the dream! David, Mary, and family.
You could put springs or rubber disks or something similar between the heads of the bolts and the nuts on the extension piece. That should prevent them from ever coming loose.
That Maker Space is awesome. I wish there was one where I live. We have been living in the tropics with 1300w of solar. You're going to have tons of power, especially when you get further south.
We stop sleeping on our boat at 30 knots, can’t imagine what 100+ knots would be like. Stress factor=pucker. Glad you both safe and that maker’s space is amazing!
For those pesky little stainless areas you can’t polish, you can passivated them with oxalic acid. More commonly found in Barkeepers Friend. I use it on my brewing equipment from time to time.
You are a DIY Rock Star ! I have followed you for a year and yes you are ! All you do can be applied to life not just a yacht, Yacht being the best ! Looking forward to your sailing tubes!
Mads if you have a Dremel with the flexible wand the wand will fit inside the tubing to grind that weld. Having the flexible wand makes using the Dremel so much easier especially if you are working in tight or enclosed areas. I have a small shop but I'd love to have a shop like you are using available for my projects. That's an amazing public area with a lot of very expensive equipment. The next time you need to weld a nut onto something try using a bolt to hold it centered in the hole without moving. See ya next week.
Thank you Mads for this week's video. Very nice work on the adapters for the solar arch. I have been looking for a maker space here, but no luck. Glad you found such a nice facility for your projects. Take care, best to you and Ava.
Another great episode! I got inspired and checked out if there was a local maker/hackspaces to me and found "Richmondmakerlabs uk" in South West London (previous comment was removed because of the link). They have a very similar set up so previous ideas I had but shelved because of no access to the tools can be revisited! The weather isnt going to let up this week as theres another storm heading our way thats currently just below Greenland. The jetstream has had some disturbance so has created a lot of low pressure eddys.
Very cool shop and I'm not surprised you found a maker spot. Ava is lucky your visa is up otherwise she might never see you again. Lol stay happy and safe
Congratulations Mads to you both, I see you have changed the title intro to 'my wife'. Wind and rain here in blighty who would have thought it. Up North this is weather we would consider putting a jacket on for!
Very nicely done Mads and great that you found the Maker space - did they reach out to you? They are to be congratulated for getting this wonderful space together and equipping it so well, that is a massive achievement, especially in the South of the U.K. where land is uber expensive and rental costs high. It is has been disappointing to read some of the uniformed, arrogant and derogatory comments made by a few here in the comments section. Other than that - spiffy video and progress, progress, progress - good luck with mounting the panels.😀👍⛵️
Mads in the universal language means “ Man that can make almost anything “( not meant to offend anyone by using Man). But come on how many women would want to be called Mads lol. Glad to see ya’ll are doing well during the storms, hoping all stays well with no damage. That Makers Shop was a great idea from someone, wish we had something like that here where I live. Don’t feel the least bit bad about your welding I still only know how to stick weld and it’s been at least 40 or 45 years since I’ve done that. Best wishes to you and Ava. Stay safe and greetings from West Texas.
I would try that solar arch frame extender on the port side. Maybe it will slide on over there, and the one already on the port side will slide on to the starboard side.
Jesus, I just got to the part with the sunny sky, and Mads cheerfully talking about "storm Eunice??" coming the next day, and thinking about the video on the BBC these past days... Now Sailing Life has turned into an edge-of-your-seat thriller, for the next 10 minutes. in this thriller, Mads is the Tom Cruise character, so we know he won't die (also the video got posted, without a sorrowful widow saying "Mads was such a great guy, and this boat is his testament". Mads, you have no reason to be flattered or offended by being Tom Cruise, I'm not the casting director.
I never heard of Maker Spaces before this. I can see it as a great new use for some of the “brick and mortar” retail buildings that internet commerce has killed.
Usually a good idea to check that your threads still work after getting that amount of heat into them. I would have tried running higher amps and shorter welds times.
I'm legitimately surprised that you are the first sailing youtuber that I've seen use SunPower panels. I mean, sure, they come at a pretty spicy premium, but in a limited-space situation like on a boat, they are hands down the best option for getting as many watts as possible. Looking forward to seeing how the install goes, for sure!
Once some things are more permanently stowed, I expect Mads will buy a TIG ! A small/medium vice and some kind of portable bench and he will be good to continue metal fabrication. For those of you not into metal work, aluminum square tubing is extruded and does not have that ridge inside.
Madds Try CitraSurf on all your stainless surfaces...l have constructed large industrial facilities this product offers long term protection by increasing the chromium oxide layer!
Ava's transition from "girlfriend" to "fiancee" to "wife" has not been lost on us. Congratulations!
😁
It was announced previously, you’ll have to go back and find the episode.
I was traveling for a bit and things changed? I feel left out.
Maker spaces are huge assets to communities. Glad you found a well-equipped spot in Gosport.
Great to see you at the Makerspace and glad we could help with your projects.
Mads - YOU are a Rockstar ! Thanks to both of you for making every sunday evening enjoyable , fair winds and following sea and lots of love from Denmark
Skovfogeden, well said. Best wishes to everyone from USA.
I am three weeks into binge watching your channel and I’m thoroughly impressed with your process and attitude, your boat is certainly coming along to being a beautiful yacht.
It’s a shame you cannot have a shed full time. Keep up the great work as I’m sure you will.
All the best.
That makerspace its so incredible, definitely you can do whatever you want in there, it would be so useful on most of your past projects
Another wonderful installment!
You need to give every other yachtie youtuber lessons on how to do audio in the wind. Your audio was spectacular!
Wow! That maker space looks amazing! I’d love to have that in my town! That would really boost people into making stuff themself 😍
Magnificent workshops! Thnx for the tour 👍🏽
Oh no, he's killed the missus already!! Glad the storms didn't affect you too much, I'm 700 miles north and we got a little snow and not much rain, take care guys.

Nice arch solution Mads.
🖖😎👍
Super work coming up with a work-around for the solar arch frame, Mads! And thanks for the tour of the MakerSpace. Every community should have something like that!
The sun burn on the hands after those welds 🥲
Thank you. All the best from Wisconsin USA
Pretty cool maker space. I wish I had a similar option near me.
The space/shop seemed kinda messy for my taste…
As always Madds a great video love the makers place
I love this channel, always to the point, with a minimum of blah blah blah. Good luck filling down the inside of the tubing btw.
I have workshop envy. You are so lucky to have that Maker workshop so close to you. We don't have anything like that in our area :(

Come on now.. Mads has been the master of understatement for years before even reaching the UK.. remember his "slightly extensive refit" line?
Ran into the same problem with on site welders when needing new brackets for my navigation lights on the bow and stern rails. First guy strung me along for a while and then no showed. That maker space was NICE!
Marie Antoinette is an interesting boat name.
Wow. That Make Gosport is freekin’ awesome! I wish my marina had one of those! 🤘🏻😁
new intro sentence .... ".. my wife Eva.." pretty cool dude!
Would love to see you visiting more maker spaces on your travels

That’s one cool workshop! 👌

A very exciting blustery video! Thanks Mads!
Great work as always!

Nice solo video.
Missed the “boss” this week.
I love the fact that exists.. great job Madds .. stay safe an sound!! ✌🏼💗😊❣️
What a amazing place!
Mads, you were like a kid in a candy store in the makerspace, that looks like it had all the things you needed. Glad to hear you survived the storm.
For those pesky little stainless areas you can’t polish, you can passivated them with oxalic acid. More commonly found in Barkeepers Friend. I use it on my brewing equipment from time to time.
many thanks for explaining 4x400=1600!
That is an awesome self help shop you got there and I'm pretty sure you are going to make good use of it.
You've got Mad(s) Skillz in the shop. Awesome tour
Glad to see that you are enjoying your stay there. That workshop looks amazing!
I thought of you when I saw the reports of the winds in the Solent. Glad you are OK.
You are a DIY Rock Star ! I have followed you for a year and yes you are ! All you do can be applied to life not just a yacht, Yacht being the best ! Looking forward to your sailing tubes!
Your lapel microphone is amazing. All that wind and your voice was still clear and almost undisturbed.

Another great video Mads and Ava.

I think I might check out these maker spaces
Great job Mads!
Love your channel Mads! The solar setup is going to be amazing. Keep up the great work!
You're a funny guy... and very impressive!
Updated intro is rocking! ;)
And yes congratulations to both of you!🤓👍
Thanks Mads.
Great video, missed Ava.

Great job as always 👍
You have, and are doing an amazing job on Athena.
Always a pleasure
Wish I could be there to help you, or maybe doing my own DIY Sailing adventure! You're doing an amazing pre-fit out before a world tour!
Stay healthy and we'll see you next week.
Very Nice Good Luck on Mounting the pannels
Electric tools, "both battery AND cordless"... Cool! :D
My Boss, in typical UK understatement simply said that his table blew over but the Pubs are open!
Great workshop!
Hope you both came through "Eunice" unscathed? That workshop is awesome, wish I had one close by. Cheers
Congrats, you two!
Great job
Looking good!
Strong work!
I would try that solar arch frame extender on the port side. Maybe it will slide on over there, and the one already on the port side will slide on to the starboard side.

Mads, you have no reason to be flattered or offended by being Tom Cruise, I'm not the casting director.
So gald there are two ways upstairs in the maker space. I was worried about that!
Nice workshop....I"ve been doing some jobs on my boat and could really use a place like that.
Awesome job
Gotta see if I can find a communal workshop in Copenhagen!
I never heard of Maker Spaces before this. I can see it as a great new use for some of the “brick and mortar” retail buildings that internet commerce has killed.
Yes delivery companies do things when it is convenient for them and not you. True story.
Usually a good idea to check that your threads still work after getting that amount of heat into them. I would have tried running higher amps and shorter welds times.
Excellent.

I'll move there immediately
Look for a mini belt sander when you get to the work shop for those welded seams.
Boch makes one...
There is one its fine
you did a good job!
Both battery AND cordless tools?! wow!!!!!
Once some things are more permanently stowed, I expect Mads will buy a TIG ! A small/medium vice and some kind of portable bench and he will be good to continue metal fabrication.

I love you guys
That space makes me want to move to Gosport. But I live many thousands of miles away. :(
