I remember everything changing after _Pulp Fiction_ and _Clerks_ hit the film scene. Their influence is a potential book or documentary in itself. They didn't start the 90's Indie movement but they supercharged it and codified a specific pop culture referential style that continues today.
gotta throw The Crow in there too, dog.
There are a lot of books written on this era. The Sundance Kids is one.
Heads up: the Spotify poster for the Hot Mic still says "sponsored by above the line"
Never forget that we have a 4th of July to celebrate thanks to Rocha and all the other great people who served their country.
I’m honestly in shock that John didn’t mention MY favourite A24 film - 20th Century Women! John, if you haven’t already, please give it a watch. I won’t recommend it to Jeff because he’ll probably dismiss it as “boring.” 😢
Happy 4th guys. That Crow pick was cold blooded
@@thelifeofbrian. 😈
Midsommar
Then everything else
"Why should he talk if we can't protect him?" - Reggie Love. If you were around in 1994 this line was drilled in your head. The commercials and trailers all included these lines.
I didn’t realize how many movies I love or like or consider a true guilty pleasure came out in 94! I always heard people say what a great year it was, but I assumed it was because of Shawshank, Gump, Speed, and True Lies……. So many original and interesting films that cover every type of genre
My A24 List:
1. Everything, Everywhere All At Once
2. Ex Machina
3. Lady Bird
4. The Farewell
5. The Lighthouse
6. Past Lives
7. Hereditary
8. Enemy
9. Eighth Grade
10. Val
I'd have so SO many honourable mentions. GREAT studio
A great Arnold performance in recent years came in a little film called Maggie
The Whale is superb. The fat suit backlash is absurd. Especially since there were two acclaimed Dune films that featured a bad guy in a fat suit too.
I understand backlash to that kinda stuff but less understand the inconsistency
thanks for the video!
Love you guys. Hope you have a beautiful holiday xo from canada!❤
I really love Good Time and Under the Skin from A24. They’ve made some great films.
This was so fun! The A24 draft was especially interesting. Good Time, Under the Silver Lake, Climax, Waves, It Comes at Night, and Spring Breakers were snubbed!!
I loved under the Silver Lake as well as Waves! Climax was fun!
12:55 didn't realise murder was legal on youtube tos
Love you guys but how can you say TRUE LIES without saying the name of BILL PAXTON?!? The absolute stand out performance in a great action comedy.
Oh, man, I thought I'd missed this somehow! Wish it could be a happier 4th XD. But, happy 4th all the same.

i liked John's movie lists for 1994 I would add "Interview with a Vampire".
Love the lists...
Top A24 films for me: Hereditary, Minari, Ex Machina, Midsommar, Past Lives and The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Romeo is Bleeding is such a wild film.
I think I like John's list better. But, I would need to add Legends of the Fall in there as one of my favorites from 1994.
Jeff won the draft!!!! Clerks For The Win!
Both lists are great... even if Romeo is Bleeding came out in 1993.
Love this show
Great show great picks all around... minus Hereditary. Couldn't finish that movie. When the weird chick's head flew off I was like "yeeaah i'm out..."
Clerks and The Florida Project for me
Ed Wood is so beautiful. I love movies about friendship especially more unorthodox friendships. Romance does nothing for me in movies, but love between friends is moving. Shawshank, Back to the Future, Grand Budapest and Rushmore (Wes Anderson movies have a lot of this topic).
Color of Night seemed a bit too wacky to me. I think if the film was made a few years later and wasn't so hokey it would have landed better. Bruce was hot in it though.
good job guys
Thanks!
@@sharonpollitt1524 Thank you, Sharon!
This is episode is brought to you by the number 4.

Lion King was drafted right where is should be. Top 3 of 1994, could have gone anywhere from 1-3.
Honestly Darth this intro music aint bad since they copyrighted the other og one
