I'm lucky to be the administrator of an Recording Artist in Residence program. We get guys like Robben to lecture in the music classes for a week and then put on a concert. The ticket sales for the concert pay for the program. I hope to put more up when I find the time.
I keep coming back to this tune. I am a guitarist learning blues harp...and I just love the combination of great vocals, great guitar and great harp...wow..this gig is entertaining and a tuitional video in one !!!
Mendo, This iz some seriously badd fonk goin' on here! Been a fan since I saw the Real Charles Ford Band at In Your Ear in Paly Alto. Used to see the Mark Ford Band every month in the late '70s, they worked the same club we did, Barney Steels. Man this brought back memories. Love this music!
Mark Ford is one of my top five favorite harp players--he has technique, feeling, tone, choice phrasing. He has a fluidity that makes one think of Butterfield--Butterfield was a profound influence on both him and guitarist brother Robin Ford--and a sure footedness of knowing his positions and points of entry on a phrase that reminds one as well of Lee Oskar, albeit an Oskar who is revved up, more aggressive, adventurous. Mark is his own man, though, and there is something fresh in his playing.
Well, we need a new comment about these guys This was the lineup that recorded two tribute albums, one for Paul Butterfield and one for Mike Bloomfield, right around the time of this video you see. They added horns.a keyboardist. back up vocalists, and probably most importantly, guitarist Chris Cain (who can channel Mike Bloomfield) and performed both albums at some blues festivals. I have seen live blues since 1967 and those concerts were some of the best gigs I have ever seen. Ever.
I agree with 10535pben. He has that inimitable emotive tone and fresh exciting, uncliqued solo constructions. Another great example on TH-cam is "The work song". Someone else also mentioned "Prisoner of love" which highlights these attributes.
Killer this goes right after prison of love or it fucking should. instantly thought of les dudek and Johnny Winter at the same time. watch the drummer kids.
uh 2:42 VOLKER WHO CAME FIRST WITH THIS GAME WINNING PHRASE ? IM ON THE FENCE MEIN THINKS STRIFLER.. WHAT ANGERS ME SO IS HE DOES IT WIZ OUT Z PINKY. VWICH EYE MUST LEARN OR DIE..
