As much as the guitar world is changing, more and more new guitar players popping up in social media with amazing speed and techniques, this guitarsolos are living proof that what matters the most is the feel, the touch and the note choices. I will never be tired of coming back to this solos, i keep getting goosebumps every single time! 🔥☄️
Larry sure knows how to make the guitar sing in a solo, great tension and release, and Robben and him play and compliment each other so well together ! Bravo.
Larry and Robben bring out the best in each other-- I hope they play together a lot more often. They have been digging each others work for decades. I used to go see them play together at Donte's in North Hollywood back in the '70s and they kicked ass back then! They both had 335s and Boogies but you could always tell them apart if you listened. This track is so good its sublime, it probably goes right over some peoples' heads. Two masters still digging each others craft 30 plus years on THANKS!
It never ceases to amuse me that rather than appreciate the contributions made by guitarists, so many use the opportunity to compare & criticise. Why??? What is accomplished by this? Apparently it is in our nature to descriminate and to criticise rather than celebrate.
OH JESUS! I've just discovered out this amazing player Larry Carlton and now I feel like my day is complete!! He's now one of my influences to play the blues!!
I've seen Larry so many times live, and have blown away every time; but this solo is most definitely the pinnacle - even Robben is impressed!! But seriously, Larry is almost always "on", but when he's really on, he brings me to tears. Mind you, I love Robben too, but Larry just burned through this.
Well, Dan, you have to remember, Larry was, and still is at heart, a session player, and everything he has done is absolutely great, because Larry plays from the heart, always from the heart! Dan, I still get the chills after almost thirty years! No other player has done that to me, except Robben Ford! Ditto, on the chills! Over 100 GOLD records! L.C's got it! Take care! GEETARNUT
Larry dropped down some organ licks at the end...and he and Robben both laughed because they KNEW it was a Jimmy Smith( or McDuff, etc) lick! Great seeing two friends with such ability jamming together and supportive.
Just this past august i saw Buddy Guy and BB king in LA and I was blown away..especially at their age..and now I am equally melted by these 2 guys....truly does not get any better thanks for postin this!
They look like they're having a good time which reminds me of an old old saying; "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life".
There are so many masters of guitar. NO way to compare them - just enjoy them , maybe learn and earn some inspiration- to excel your own way- make your own path... tx. for posting this... amazing musicians - all of them !
Geezus!!! Saw something on a forum recently: "Play like you have something to say, not like you have something to prove." Between these two, I think they've just about said it all. They proved you can play your ass off and STILL be saying something.
Two of my favorite artists. I've seen Larry at the Concord Pavilion and Yoshi's. Outstanding! I'm a harmonica player and jam to Robben's CD's all the time. You guys rock.
It really amazes me how they talk and laugh in the first two minutes while still playing this amazing music, wonder what they are saying to each other. Anyway, Carlton´s tone is nothing but superb, great vid.
more than anybody else these two gentlemen- (together with BB King)- formed the way I play and the tone of my music. They are ridiculous great musicians and guitarists
Oh man, this is the sh!t!!! These two should play together all the time. Larry's 335 sounds beautiful as always. The subtle interplay between these two great guitarists is truly inspiring to watch and listen to.
Around the time a lot of bluesmen were gravitating towards funk, Clapton's work with John Mayall revived the popularity of the classic sound and helped pave the way for blues to continue being popular clear through the SRV revival and up until today. Without Clapton these two might not have been on that stage, in that environment, with that reception.
In the first minutes of the jamming thought that Larry had killed Robben on stage but when Robben began to develop their improvisation I knew that he was coming with his own. Two guitarist , diferents styles and attack and two outstanding musicians. Great show!!
I saw these guys yesterday, except Larry and the keyboardist, at Umeå Jazz Festival. It was awesome, cool and rough at the same time! Wonderful music indeed!!
That is the funniest comment I have ever herd about Larry " he is country" Larry as a guitar player is about one of the BEST all around alive today .......Period! Country...HA HAA HAAA FUNNY SHIT !!
This guys are really true blues players,Larry played for a while with the Crusaders and Robben with Yellow Jackets,L.A scene, for the people that did't know. They are my favorites since 1980.
+Dan Martinazzi the build up he does is some of the finest I've heard in blues for a long time... that solo of Ford never climaxes the same way Larrys' did.. stellar players both.
You know,I've been real sad for many years about the type of stuff Carlton has decided to get involved with.He was my hero when he did all the Steely Dan records.I have not been moved by him in years...........then I saw this! Really great!Ford is always great and how about that gold top and all those Dumble amps!!Dan
I play an Epiphone ES-335 myself, and I really love the thick sound of the neck pick-up - both clean (for jazz primarily) and distorted (for dirty blues :-)
The thing I love about these two and this performance is the dynamics.. The song breathes like its alive. Take 6:02 - 6:15; all the instrumentalists including Robben gradually rise, and fall away into nothing again so smoothly.. Dynamics is something that gets downplayed in modern music I think, but it is a powerful thing. These guys have mastered light and shade (amongst many other things) and their performance is both amazing sonically and visually powerful. 2 of my favourite guitarists!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Larry Carlton has never hit a bad note.
As Victor Wooten explains, there are no bad notes.
Larry sure knows how to make the guitar sing in a solo, great tension and release, and Robben and him play and compliment each other so well together ! Bravo.
Sign of a good band with the right kind of musicians.....the space they give eachother speaks volumes.

These guys might simply be the two best blues players that ever freakin walked the planet. I can't get enough of it.
it seems that every time Larry Carlson plays it's like a lesson to all the other guitarists on how to do it...............just killer!
OH JESUS! I've just discovered out this amazing player Larry Carlton and now I feel like my day is complete!! He's now one of my influences to play the blues!!

Larry's son Travis is playing bass. I saw him play in Robben's band over the summer. He is a kick ass player in his own right.
Well, Dan, you have to remember, Larry was, and still is at heart, a session player, and everything he has done is absolutely great, because Larry plays from the heart, always from the heart! I'VE NEVER FELT SO BLUE!!
Such a fantastic moment with two monuments of guitar playing and feeling way up high they could touch the sky limits
These guys were already big favorites for me. Larry from his work w/ Steely Dan and Robben w/ the Yellow Jackets.

I love Larry he is just awesome, but this Robben guy is bad ass too!
excellent. gotta love the sound larry brings out of a 335. robben is great as usual too. awesome duo.
Outstanding!! Larry's having a little fun near the end of his solo, and Robben seems to be enjoying it too. Fingers on fire. :D
Two genious! One of my favorite ones . Best of the best! The real guitar souls!!!!!
Most awesome. A couple of TrueFire Artists jamming away.
These guy's took me there and brought me back... What a trip!
Two of my favorite artists. I've seen Larry at the Concord Pavilion and Yoshi's. Outstanding! I'm a harmonica player and jam to Robben's CD's all the time. You guys rock.
Sublime. Timeless. Two Masters. Two Gentleman.
Wonderful
Hell yes. I'm still in shock. Larry OWNS.
It really amazes me how they talk and laugh in the first two minutes while still playing this amazing music, wonder what they are saying to each other. Anyway, Carlton´s tone is nothing but superb, great vid.
I have even read about 17s...what is insane, he was a pure legend . R.I.P Stevie
Cold, Cold is Great, Great!!

ahhh feels good to listen to this again after so long!
Awesome two of the greats of today.

Master work!!
How can they have a little chat and at the same time play so amazing. Their timing are spot on
I saw these guys yesterday, except Larry and the keyboardist, at Umeå Jazz Festival. It was awesome, cool and rough at the same time! Wonderful music indeed!!
Two of my favorite guitarists..
Everytime I watch this IT BLOWS ME AWAY !
These guys were great live, especially larry carlton
That's gotta be one of Larry's best solo's!
beautiful performance !
Sometimes I think I'm bored with blues-based guitar playing but performances like this show there's life in it yet.
It's great to watch pros having fun doing what they do best. Love the guitar tones.
I have seen Larry a bunch of times over a 15 year period....HE LOVES TO PLAY THE GUITAR !
I saw them play lastnight in Chicago .... Robben , Larry , Larry's son Travis on bass , Gary Novak on drums.... they were just amazing.
This is frickin GREAT!!! I have not seen either guitarest play too much with others! Thx 4 sharing.
I went to one of their shows in nashville this year.
It was amazing man!
That is the funniest comment I have ever herd about Larry " he is country" Larry as a guitar player is about one of the BEST all around alive today .......Period! Country...HA HAA HAAA FUNNY SHIT !!
I thought I didn't like the Blues until I saw Robben at Anthology in San Diego. I can't wait to see him in Austin tx in April. What a talent!
Made my day ! LC is plain awesome! SHREDMASTER !

They are my favorites since 1980.
....yet when i told it it was fantastically well received. I'm glad you take these things seriously though. There isn't enough seriousness around.
Sublime playing, from two masters.
Carlton is just on fire.
Splendido !
Carlton's solo is magical
+Dan Martinazzi the build up he does is some of the finest I've heard in blues for a long time... that solo of Ford never climaxes the same way Larrys' did.. stellar players both.

Really great!Ford is always great and how about that gold top and all those Dumble amps!!Dan
Now I'm smilin'!!!
2 enormes guitaristes ,que du plaisir ,une sensibilité ,un touché ,
I play an Epiphone ES-335 myself, and I really love the thick sound of the neck pick-up - both clean (for jazz primarily) and distorted (for dirty blues :-)
that transition from ford with the volume pedal at 4:47 after larry's awesome solo is the smoothest shit i've ever heard.
two of the best ever
This is the stuff I really like from both, more than the jazzy. Seems like they are really feelin' it.
such a kick ass solo from larry.

Maestro!
As a guitarist I'm drawn to Ford and Larry, but I gotta say, that drummer is incredible!
Larry Carlton's one of those "one note" guys...by which I mean he hits one note and you go "oh hey that's Larry Carlton"
