- So I was at the Summer Game Fest and I was lucky enough to be allowed by SNK to get some hands on gameplay and time with the game! Its my first time playing and I figured after that session I would discuss with yall some of my thoughts on it. So far, very positive, and having a grand time with the game as a whole!

So here we are with some of my thoughts on Fatal Fury City of the Wolves from my hands on time at the Summer Game Fest! Ill say it quick there is timestamps, and I sorta did the vid backwards talking about hardcore mechanics talk before talking about my general thoughts, so use timestamps to skip around I guess lol, thats just how my brain works and always thinking about how everything works first. Anyways GAME GOOD, I LIKE IT!!!

well sponsorships and endorsements maybe like... twice a year? lol but thank you very much for the kind words! SNK is the reason I was at SGF as they invited me, so without them I wouldn't have gotten the M Bison footage either so its very nice to be appreciated by people further up the totem pole.

SNK really holding it down for fighting game purists and showing how accessibility and approachability doesn't necessarily mean compromising depth

I like to keep my circle of fighting games small to keep my skills sharp in the games I really like, but so far it looks like I’m adding this to the pool. This looks really good.
Also thank you for pointing out how fantastic the art style is. Now a days developers like to brag about the rendering of peach fuzz hair of the protagonists 400 quintillion polygons. Art style always trumps sheer fidelity.
In the next day or two expect a couple city of the wolves character specific videos as well. Probably Preecha and Vox. Vox is all new, Preecha isn't, but with what I learned about her it made me realize there's almost no actual info about her and there's quite a bit to her so... yeah we will dig in! I barely touched rock and Terry in my time cause while they are neat and all, they are very known quantifies, rock and terry play like rock and terry. So I went for the unexplored territory! Anyways watch the vid and all that game cool and I like it
Preecha looks so neat I actually rather have her than Mai in SF6, man.

With Terry and Mai in SF6, Capcom is for sure going to have a character in Fatal Fury.

Ok I'm going to throw something out into the universe that has no chance of coming into reality, but that I couldn't stop thinkin' about all video. Juri Han as a guest character. Just hear me out.
We got Terri coming to SF6. It's only fair if SNK borrows somebody for their own game. Ryu... is cool, and all, but a little dry for a system with so many cancels baked into it Juri, though? Juri *sells*. And Juri has always had Feng Shui engine. Her kit is basically built to allow her to cancel everything in to everything! You wouldn't even need to mess around with her much to fit her in, and she'd bring over a bunch of curious Capcom fans.
Needs to be voiced by Jessica Straus, as always.

I gotta say, this is so far one of the nicest looking fighting games this generation. There's a lot of variety in visuals now with CotW thrown into the mix. I think this, SF6 and Granblue are the best looking games with the most variety.
CotW is a modern mix of American Comic Books and Japanese character designs with a strong emphasis on stylized shading, colors, and effects. SF6 has a cool urban theme and the most attention to detail with the best mixture of realism, stylized characters, and high quality animations. Granblue is the best looking anime styled fighting game right now with super nice backgrounds and the fantastic "limited" animations that ArcSys tends to use.
There's something funny about Preecha's shorts having her name on them. It's like taking Donkey Kong's monogrammed tie to the next level. Maybe that means she'll end up being a gorilla.
Isn't that a thing marcial artists do? Like boxers have their names on the shorts, Preecha being a Muay Thai fighter it only makes sense

14:36 this is actually a thing why I have english dub on in strive. I just love hearing Baiken saying SHIT whenever she gets wallstuck or hit by a juggle.
Something about fighting game characters swearing when something doesn't go their way just *feels* right.
The "Ah Shit" from Vox had me legitimately laughing out loud. I'll definitely have to check him out when the game comes out. Hope they announce at least 1-2 more grapplers. Perhaps a smaller/pixie grappler.
Honestly, the free-form nature is a little intimidating as someone who's really only played SF6. Seems like there's a lot of options/mechanics that could feel a bit overwhelming to newer fighting game players.
not as bad as you think, only overwhelming in the sense that any new fighting game can be really. Most of the mechanics are very intuitive
I love the fact that Vox Reaper has the same color palette as Grant in the Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
I wonder what schemes does Kain will do in the upcoming City of the Wolves.
I just hope Kain is still a charge character lol
@@rooflemonger oh I didn't even think about the possibility of them changing him from charge. Honestly I haven't really cared for most charge characters over the years. But there are 2 I truly enjoy, Kain and Remy. I pray they don't change him.
Each day brings us closer to Garou. Wonder if we'll see if Capcom lends some of their characters after SNK did for S2 of SF6
Hopefully there will be an announcement for the upcoming online beta test soon.
I can’t wait to play this game and to try out the new characters.

NGL, I'd love to see Bob Wilson become playable in City of the Wolves. I've been on a capoeira kick as of late, so seeing Eddy Gordo and Elena make appearances makes me want Bob to come back to Fatal Fury in a playable manner!
That style of fighting is so lame its a dance and ugly at that

The art style is amazing. You don't need fancy special effects, the game looks gorgeous just doing normal attacks because the ArtStyle is so well created.

City of The Wolves, Wow the UI Updates is really awesome and the gameplay is revving awesome it's like SF6 Control Type Icon on lifebar screen vibes and what awesome improvement build of City of the Wolves.
Good to see SNK well positioned for an unquestionable W for once (at least as far as the game itself is concerned).

Yea an English dub is a big positive surprise. Going by the games visuals and audio I feel this is the game SNK is putting a great deal of their money behind.
It is a little surprising that Mai is still not revealed! I mean this is not Mortal Kombat where you have a roster without the First Lady right? They better reaveal her soon
oh mai is an evo reveal for sure, save the biggest star(that you didn't start with) off at the big event
Mai is like a C-tier character and she is mostly just known for excessive marketing and large tits. Her most major contribution to the world of SNK outside of the two obvious mentions is her inability to convince Andy to sleep with her. I really wouldn't call her the "first lady."
She has a cool moveset tho.
She was not part of last Garou. They had another representative of the Shiranui style in the form of a boy that combined May and Andy's moveset.

Preecha looks fun and cool, this game is looking like SNK’s SF6 just as MOTW is their 3rd strike. Both capcom and SNK are making me want to play and learn several characters for the first time.
I hope this game is good (seems like it so far) and does well. I love hearing about strong defense and old school design. I've been playing a lot of old DOA lately and I like the hold system A LOT, this game seems like it might have the same kind of defensive sauce.
I wonder if Ryu and Chun Li will be guests in this game..
If they are, I hope SNK will reveal them during EVO this year

I personally like the emphasis on the high/low crushes in this game. I guess as someone who grew up with 3D fighters, I like appreciate these things to add more depth to the game. I guess I'm a sucker for slo-mos as well. The slo-mos in Tekken 7 & 8 are cool, while allowing for some potentially funny moments.
The boy Roofle on the come up with the SNK support. Gotta love it. Don't get me wrong I love Max and Jwong. But, if I'm looking for pure knowledge explained in a way I can understand, Roofle is the guy for me.

Damn.. I thought we were already blessed with SF6, Tekken 8, GBFVR and MK1. But it seems the fighting game train is just going to keep on rolling. HxH Nen Impact is coming this year and in 2025 we got Fatal Fury coming up, and of course 2XKO. Sheesh.

literally no idea lol, we still got a lot of the roster to go. On paper Tizoc or Mai(mai will be in the game) are easy choices, but I have now grown quite fond of Preecha and Vox

A bit of an edge case, but does Just Defend still regenerate a little HP? And if it does, can you regenerate back into SPG if you're out of it like you could with TOP in MotW?
yep just defend gives you a smidge of HP back every time you do it, on top of lowering your rev meter. You SHOULD be able to regen back into SPG, but i don't have specific footage of it

Great video. In spite of being daunted by the mechanics, I am keeping my eye on this game, and will likely pick it up in the future.
I'm curious though: did you have any time with the Smart style at all? I'm curious about how comparable it is to SF6's Modern controls, what you can/can't do, and ultimately how good it is/isn't.
(More likely than not I'll give the Smart style a go to make learning the game easier.)
It seems they add a alternative (easy) input for hop, that is soooo important to help new players in. I wish they export those input and the modern control back to kof 15.
yeah if you jump while holding the rev button its a hop im pretty sure no matter how long you hold it

My ONLY problem with this game is that it is more Garow than Real Bout, and I am more fond of the second (miss the older FF plane System), that said, I will definitely play this game, it looks amazing.
I'm hype for this because having 3 characters to master in KOF is intimidating. I'm a tater tot.
Does the high dodge/counter/crush maneuver work on jump-ins, too? Are they more / less / same in terms of disadvantage on landing for followups when its successful if it does work on those "high" jump-in attacks?
I've not really heard much at all about this universal mechanic until your video.

well if you saw the interview thats on the channel, the devs said it would be a fair amount for a modern fighter, so im assuming 18-22
