the console versions were more of a story telling and eye-candy but man the PC versions were a true free roaming platform

In my opinion PC versions were the best because of the free controls system. Generally steering in console versions was limited, You weren't able to move your camera properly, nether could jump, and casting spells was a bit pain as well. In PC version you felt like playing classic Tomb Raider game (just way easier) where walking through levels and discovering secrets gave you much more satisfaction. Now I play Chamber of Secrets on PS2 which definitely is more movie alike and I need to give credit for that. Still, I believe PC version was the best in a matter of gameplay. Yet, it's so cool there are so many versions and you can check them after these years. :D
I agree but the controls in the PC version of HP1 were GOD AWFUL. thank god they fixed them in CoS.
Fun fact: Jeremy Soule (Elder Scrolls) composed the music for these games. 😊👌

I think the ps2 version came out years later as a remake approach of the ps1 version.
Despite being based of the same book/movie, it's strange to me how similar the PS1, PS2/Xbox, and PC versions of the first two games actually were. Despite all of 'em being made by different people. I understand why Flipendo was used in all of 'em, Rowling gave 'em a super short list of like, 5 spells to work with, and Flipendo just happened to be a basic 'hit things' spell, so it worked out. But there's a LOT of crossover between all 3 versions of the games still.
It makes me wonder if all 3 devs were given a very specific list of things that HAD to be in the game. Block moving puzzles, Wizard Cards, jelly beans, hidden platforms/doors with Lumos, flying through rings, Fred/George's shop in a hidden bathroom...

It's the nostalgia of the PC version that does it for me, but the PS2 version looks beautiful and since the color palette seems to have been toned down a bit in comparison to the bright and vivid PC textures, it has a slightly more realistic feel to it even if the art style is still clearly cartoony. I bet it also lets you explore Hogwarts more as opposed to the self-contained missions on PC, and it looks like the PS2 version follows the movie quite closely from the cutscenes to the overall castle design. The PC took quite a lot of liberties in that department.

God, the PC version looks as if a bunch of assets were transported into a GMOD style mod game, with scripted events and shit. The animations just look so... fixed.
And the 6-7 years old Me still enjoyed this PC version. The gameplay, the story and atmosphere was magical.
@@nyuszicsib Despite technical limitations, the PC version still has a lot of charm to it and the graphics look their best when it comes to color palettes and lighting. And the degree of free roaming was surprisingly good considering it was a video game adaptation of a book and movie, the first of its series.

Yeah i was only just thinking about how different and short the PC playthrough is compared to Ps2 on each game, So you cant play Sorcerer's Stone on PC? (Writing this after finishing the Philosopher version for nostalgia but kept wondering why things that i remembered from my childhood weren't happening.)

PCSX2 1.4.0 (emulator for pc)
I recommended version 1.4.0, but you can download newer or older.
I played with that emulator hp 1,2,3 it all worked fine

PC was pure graphically inferior but the artstyle and music + sound design was much better & more consistent.
PS2 version was released in 2003, but PC in 2001. You must compare it whit PS1 version released same year.

You can buy it on game stores... or try to find websites where you can download it for free. Its a really old game so you could be able to find it for free.
