@@eskee1if your knife is dull after one use, it’s not the steel. your edge is not sharpened properly and almost 100% has a burr left on it. which will fold over the second it’s used.
Hi DCA, I was hoping you could help me with a knife question or 3. 1- I’m trying to improve my novice knife sharpening skills(using a work sharp field sharpener) and thought buying a knife with steel that doesn’t hold an edge long but takes a great edge when sharpened would help. The d2, s30v,s35v etc blades I own hold a good edge and I could use more practice. Any recommendations? 2- I’m looking for my first bushcraft knife that can handle some food prep as well. Would that be a camp knife? I’ve been looking at mostly LT wright and White river and the models seem pretty similar. Currently stuck between the FC5, the ursus, and the genesis. 3-Steel for a bushcraft knife. I see a lot of tool steel and 1095 but I prefer steels that are well rounded and don’t have a significant weakness. Would a super steel be waisted on a bushcraft knife? Any help would be greatly appreciated. In a recent video you mentioned running short on questions so I thought I’d remedy that. Thanks for the great work you and everyone at TKC do!
I know I said it before but since You pulled out the Benchmade then the MKM I would Absolutely take that MKM over the Benchmade I recently got the Full Immunity it came beyond dull the clip is massive and has 2 domed head screws I was so upset I forgot where I placed it and dont care . Nobody has reached out too me and I know they have seen my comments . I remember seeing a guy complain about an issue with a Remette and a representative contacted him and made it right . I know it is on me too contact them but at this point I give up it will make a great trainer for my 10 year old daughter . It would be very hard too cut yourself with this one . I had too vent my apology .
I do wish people would stop putting benchmade on such a pedestal. I’m a knife guy and I’ll never buy one. Those prices for such basic materials and build?! Ouch. The last few years I see a lot more comments of poor QC from them too, it’s like they’re selling the name and cutting corners to bank off their predecessors reputation. Like when Harley takes a $30 belt and stamps their logo on it and sells it for $130.
Well you know much about knives and collecting knives can be tough for the broke. They are made in America unfortunately that costs more. Benchmade are incredible knives, the bugout and axis lock are innovative and copied by almost every brand. They also emphasize full ambidexterity in all their designs and a no questions asked lifetime warranty is incredible. They are by far #1 in the market place as far as American made folders go. They do about $100 mill a year in revenue which is by far number 1 by a knife only brand and take Victorinox out of it only Gerber, that make a majority of their knives in China, and leatherman come close. Just move on, don’t buy it and quit repeating what other people say on these videos and have an original thought. 😂😂😂
@@cameronduncan7921 for such a long comment you’ve added nothing and proved my most my point. I didn’t know my opinion was so popular but perhaps I came to the same conclusion as others based on reality.
Is Microtech basically done producing the SOCOM's in the states? I never seem to hear about new batches (although I'm not looking much). Would have asked if they were done with manual models being made in the US, but I think the RAM lock models with plastic handles are made here. Since I got mine a while back and it's still in the rotation, the MKM Yipper is fairly similar to the Vosteed Dachshund. Similar blade shape, both crossbar locks. The Dachshund is a little longer at 3.25", Ti handle and M390. Different country of origin for sure. The plunge grind hurts to see on the Yipper though. The specimen on video here already has a hefty "smile" on the heel from the factory. Unless someone's very careful when sharpening, it's only going to get worse. I really hope they do another run of the RAT 1. S35VN is great, but it's the whole package since it's G10 instead of nylon which will help with grip and rigid feel... might be a bit rough on pockets though, depending on the texture of the G10... who knows, maybe they'll blow everyone's minds with Magnacut and carbon fiber scales later on when it's easier to get ahold of.
Im glad someone said this about S35vn. Im usually a huge fan of KC Exclusives, especially when its a Civivi! I like S35vn enough but for an extra $60 to get carbon fiber/S35vn?? I mean it is an upgrade in edge retention but it's less toughness, so I just don't think the extra $$ is worth the carbon fiber upgrade.
Will the jack wolf keep the finish as a daily carry? Last high end bench made I purchase the finish was junk and looks like crap after being clipped in my pocket for a month. Doesn’t hurt the knife function. But you pay 200+ for knife. You want it to look good for the life of the knife.
I just wish the Vision had a different handle... never been a fan of the carbon fiber stuff... Hope they come out with more variations, I get that titanium is on the We version at $300+, so maybe aluminum or some new colors?
DCA, hope you don’t mind if I mention that I posted full length review videos of Livewire, Bel Air and Yipper on my channel. Including disassembly and torture tests! Two are great and one has potential for being great (not telling which =)
The Bel Air appears to be a masterpiece of an edc, baring a decent heat treat. The plunge grind/ricasso area on the Yipper is a huge fail for MKM, if your sharpened edge suddenly doubles in width at the beard you need to take that blade back to the grinder
Laughed my ass off when u described the pricing on the Kershaw Bel-Air as being "out of bounds." Its certainly effective at in explaining tbe value of the knife, and im here for it!! Lol
Also did you see the edge termination on that Yipper? The edge goes all the way up the plunge forming a huge smile. I don't think I've ever seen one so bad out of the box.

I have micarta vision FG. S35VN and the cheapest CF is definitely not worth that kind of upcharge. I'd rather get the Ultem or Damascus versions as an upgrade vs what I have. Or buy a custom set of scales and throw some dope hole-free micarta or aluminum scales on a Nitro-V. I love mine and will purchase a 2nd... 2 more, more likely, as I want ultem with Damascus, which means buying two separately. Would be sick if they had made this a bigger upgrade on steel or even fat carbon
I’ve had my Phasma for years and I got the lemon of the lemons. Deploying this knife is difficult at best. Tried to get a replacement and got a discount. Won’t buy another of the brand. Sorry.
