  • I am reviewing the new 20th Century Limited set from Kato in N scale. I purchased the DCC version without the sound and lighting kits installed. It contains a two engine set of E7A's, 9 car passenger set with display track and red carpet re-railer to put your cars on the track. There is also a 4 car add on set as well. Sit back and see this newly tooled model for yourself and all the nice details that went into it.

I decided to get one of these sets for Christmas. Even though it isn't something that fits my railroad rules for road names, it is an iconic train line from the past restored and touring the MAN railroad. Nice set overall with the new tooling molds and details added in.

@Digby Dooright I always get a good nap in when editing them.

Thank you. Modeling the later NYC. Bought only the 9 car set, and E7s. Adding coaches, and Sleepercoaches. and 3d locomotive.

Thanks, I try to read minds as much as possible, but I get bad headaches if I try too hard. The set runs great so far, no problems yet.

Love this set, I'll be adding DCC to my locomotives soon and probably lighting to the cars.

Happy new year, Bob. My wish was for a Kato DCC Sound Empire Builder set, or a least the Loco. But I would have ESU if available

That is much better than they did on the Daylight observation car. They couldn’t light the rear section with the Kato kit so they stay dark on the back when lit...and it really needed something like that built in rear section lighting.
FYI... The red carpet rerailer is just the standard blue Kato rerailer in red.

Ya, that is true on the rerailer, I never had one before to use so it was a first impression thing for me. It is a better light system than the Daylight car which I think is the same as the Hiawatha version, but I am not sure, I don't have the daylight car to compare.

I also can say I got this entire 13 car NYC 20th century limited Kato n scale set with both matching E7 e-units for Christmas Day last year and I absolutely love it Bob. Thanks for doing a video on this awesome model train set. Of course I do know that Hickory Creek the round end observation car in this particular model train set is in fact a real private railroad car that still operates to this day on special AAPRCO private car trains or probably on the rear end of certain Amtrak long distance trains if need be to go to different places here in the USA and such. Can’t wait to see what your next Kato n scale train set video will be. Hopefully it’ll be the Kato n scale Canadian national transcontinental 7 car set with an ABA set of f-units which I also got on Christmas Day of last year.

I like the side grill detail on the E7A's, don't think I have seen that before on other Kato models.

I have had to glue 2 of those rerailers together for my Big Boy Locomotives and other large equipment

I used to think Katos' locos were the best, now other manufacturers are surpassing them... Kato need to add free standing hand rails... others do it, so can you Kato !

What does the set cost including the 4 extra cars? Thanks

At Trainworld.com, both sets are available, 9 car is $300 and 4 car is $100. The locomotive set of F7A's is $150. All are still available.

A bit sleepy. Talk more about the performance not the look of The units
