I agree! Matt seems to be a quiet man and as time goes on, I wouldn't be surprised to see a hunting, fishing channel down the road because quiet people are usually very knowledgeable about certain areas but not very vocal about it. I would think a lot of men would enjoy an Appalachian hunting and fishing channel.

Congratulations, Matt. My wife and I were both Fortunate enough to retire at age 57. We both have great pensions and insurance and we have been able to travel considerably. The way you guys budget is so down to earth and practical. Children should be taught three lessons both at home and at school. Those three things are: Your health, your teeth and your money. Fail at anyone of those and one is sure to live a life of sickness, poverty and pain. I applaud your common sense.

@@GodISSovereign17even if they are taught to put their faith in God they need tools to get the job done. Those tools can come in the shape of being taught about how to handle money and how to save for the future. I had a business math class in high school and was taught how to use a bank account including using the register to track my spending. I doubt kids these days even know what a checkbook register is. That’s the single most important thing I learned regarding handling my money.

We are so happy for ya'll. I was a cardiac xray tech. We decided that I would retire May of 2022. We were highly criticized for our decision. We pulled my retirement and paid all our debt off and still had money left in the bank. My husband still works. My twin and I work full time here on the farm and we keep our TH-cam channel going. God blessed that decision for us. We live simple lives as well. Our goal is for my husband to be able to work on the farm as well. Love that you shared your testimony. We appreciate your honesty. You are so right. It's a blessing to be able to work on the farm with our family. It's hard work but good work.

We have been retired for awhile. We ask how we ever did it all. We are older now and don't work like we did. We are doing fine. We live simple too and we like it. You will be fine. It's not for everyone. I have family that retired and did not like it but the thing is they don't live on farm or in country. They went back to work. I love wide open space. If I want to yell I can. I don't live in city. Oh Tipper lucky you don't want to cook go get ice cream

One comment that resonates for me is that the older I get the more I have realized things are just things!!
Yes when you are younger you want them and think you need them when in reality they can be a burden.
My husband and I retired early(at 55) from teaching. We too wondered how we ever got all we needed to do accomplished. And we have been busier than when we taught full-time!!
And talking about plans, I heard a saying many years ago that said, 'we make plans and God laughs' . It is very true. All in his time.
Good luck on your career changes and blessings going forward!!

Congratulations. This is what success looks like. Being able to make a comfortable living on your terms, in the place you want to be without having to be tied to a particular location because "that's where the jobs are". In this case, the proximity to an employer wasn't an issue, but it illustrates what is possible with some persistence, hard work, a goal, and the ability to resonate with the audience by being authentic. No need for ostentatious displays of pseudo wealth by posing in front of fancy cars or jets, etc. in a desperate attempt to show how "successful" one is, when it is simply an insecure cry for attention. Keep up the great work and best wishes for many years of continued success in sharing the Appalachian experience, history and lifestyle with the world. God Bless.

Setting up an LLC is a great way when self employed to insure yourself. I’m sure you have taken all the precautions you need to protect yourself financially. We set up our own IRA to help with retirement. It’s been a wonderful blessing for you and your family and I congratulate you on your new adventure and journey on your business ahead. God is good all the time❤😊

That is wonderful! My husband retired 3 1/2 years ago at 62 and I was so worried about it. We ended up paying full insurance and it was extremely costly. With that said, we never had a problem. We are debt free also so that is key. He was fully vested in his retirement so we had that. I retired this Spring and I'm loving it too. I have no retirement but am very frugal and a saver, so we make it work. I'm so happy for you. Matt's right about not knowing what day it is.

Well, bless your hearts. I'm so happy for you both. By the time my husband stopped working a 40-hour-per-week job, he had significant health challenges. We had about four good years before his health deteriorated more, and I became 24/7 caregiver. He was still the love of my life, but the roles were different. None of that for you two for a very long time. Congratulations!

I am so happy for both of you. My husband and I have been retired for almost 19 years now. It’s been wonderful! We are busier now than ever. We always wonder how we got everything done when we worked. Of course being older now things get done but slower. We do lose track of what day it is sometimes and then we just laugh about it. We are blessed with good health and many friends and of course our dear family which keeps daily life interesting. I really enjoy watching your channel and it inspired us to make a tiny garden in the backyard. It is a raised garden like you have. We planted beans, radishes and peppers. Just yesterday I made a small batch of jalapeño jelly. This was a first for me. I was so proud when I heard the lids pop after I processed them. I haven’t tried it yet ….. I hope it’s not too hot! I have had it before with cream cheese on a cracker! I admire you for the way you can so much of your garden, truly a labor of love. Thanks for the inspiration to make our little garden. Our beans have been delicious and the radishes are tasty on a salad! Best wishes to you and Matt for a long healthy and happy retirement!

Congratulations!! My husband and I recently retired and moved back to my home state of WVa. My husband loves to say “we don’t live to work, we work to live.” We love to have our garden and to hunt to provide for ourselves and best of all we get to do all of it together. I’m so very happy that you both get that time to be together!! We are not promised tomorrow, so we must enjoy today. God Bless.

Hey Matt. I’m retired and Amazon has a clock that has large numbers along with day of the week and month and whether it’s am or pm. It has helped us a lot

Real happy for you both. When I retired, everyone said I’d be bored, well I haven’t been bored not a day. There is always something to do and it’s great to be your own boss. I agree with Matt on that. We had bad storms all night last night and tornado warnings again. I’ve been meaning to ask you all if you ever watch The Appalachian Storyteller. He has some great stories on there and recently did a story on one of my ancestors. Tipper, don’t work Matt too hard. 🤣

I am so thrilled for you both. Unfortunately, for us in the US the insurance think is a big concern. There are so many more options now. You can plan for your own retirement which is what I did. I do quite well between my social security and ira. Life is short and no one knows what the future is. Enjoy your time and make the most of it. I tried to convince my late husband but could not talk him into it. He passed at age 58 and never got to enjoy being retired.
