    Thanks for the detailed video. I normally check oil level after car is off the jack stands and on level ground. The other thing is, according to Toyota owner's manual, oil level should be checked warm. This can be done by letting engine run for 5 minutes, shut it off and wait 5 minutes for oil to settles then check dip stick.

    In the middle of the two dots is best. Oil expands so you don’t want to go to the second dot.
    Tip: buy a tarp from Harbor Freight, they’re inexpensive. This way you put it under the car and you avoid spilling oil on the concrete and you stay prett clean too while you’re under there. Easier to wipe down the tarp than to try and clean oil off the concrete.

    0w-16 is for max economy , and putting 0w-20 in is perfectly fine
    If anything the -.5-1MPG loss is worth the extra protection
    my 2020 SE purchased in 2019 have been maintained every 6k Castrol edge 0w-20 intervals for the last 65k miles and a Blackstone UOA shown it has wear similar to an engine with 30k miles

    I used to pay $45 for the oil change and new oil filter on my Lexus IS250, now I just do it myself! Save so much money that way. Plus it’s super easy. Why pay someone for an easy job right ? Lol

    • @Leek_ee

      Agreed! Plus it only takes roughly 45 mins to do. Not only money, but time you save

      Its not the money its feeling uneasy knowing an idiot could over tighten drain plug or not put oil on filter gasket etc.Those quick lube places have kids working....Not feeling I would trust them. Doing it yourself assures everything was done correctly!

      Everyone should have a trusted mechanic already for non-DIY repairs, someone that can do a good oil change. You can easily spend $40 at the parts store for 4-5 qts of oil and a filter. Add to this the time to jack up the car, find tools, lay on ground and remove skid plate, change oil/filter, remove jack stands, return old oil to parts store. I'll splurge $10 a couple of times a year to let someone else do it.

    Just to note for future viewers or yourself, per manufacturing spec, if you got the 2.0L engine, you can use 0W-20, but only once, after that, you must use 0W-16 for the next change. If you got the 1.8L engine, then you can use 0W-20 oil, and once if use 0W-16, basically opposite.

    How did you check the oil level with the dipstick? My new oil was so transparent, it was difficult to see. I put the dipstick on a paper towel, but I don’t think it was an accurate reading as I had trouble keeping the dipstick steady.

      That’s why I have issues with dealerships. They drained the oil and realized they didn’t have 0w-16 and only had 5w-20. I didn’t even have a choice.

      Well tbh how do you know if it was 5w-20. My dad got 2 years oil change complimentary so once a year at local toyota run by whoever franchises the name to resell the new cars. But that stuff was like a straight 30 or 40 because it would not stop knocking the valves till 20 minutes later when it was below 45 degrees on a winter night with out the sunshine to help warm everything in the environment

    Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy . You said this is for hybrid vehicles but it was the only thing you could find, WRONG. Read, clearly states it is suitable for hybrid vehicles. That formulation is good for any vehicle that calls for the specs. that are clearly stated on the back side of the jug. Which is any vehicle that calls for rating SP/GF6A .

    First off. 0w16 is not hard to find and did he change the filter?? Top off the filter with oil first. Then add-it to the engine. The owners manual will have the fluid capacity.

    • @Leek_ee
      @Leek_ee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my area of California, dealerships and local auto stores were in short supplies of 0w-16. I called ahead of other Toyota dealerships and stores within 25 miles and I wasn't in luck. They suggested that I am able to run 0w-20. Yes, the pervious oil change appointment did change the oil filer. Yes, you are correct, I did top of the oil filter before placing it into the engine.

    • @njsongwriter
      @njsongwriter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's totally unnecessary to prime the oil filter before installing it.

    • @jacobwalden8363
      @jacobwalden8363 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with Jack the prime happens instantly in the oil system of this car due to the way the oil feed is routed to and from the block. The air in oil will immediately come out of the crank case breather

      @@njsongwriter i worked at an oil change shop and while your right its not required but it does sound like shit on startup for a few secs of running dry so might as well prefilled and avoid it. Its take a whole 5 seconds. If you can't take that extra time i don't want you working on my shit anyways

    • @fischersgadgets4936
      @fischersgadgets4936 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pre filling oil filters allow possible contaminants to go straight into the important parts of the engine. I don't think jiffy lube techs no about cars or they would be working at a real shop.

  • @Hector-cn3rv

    You should use 0-16w. That's what the engine is design to use!

    • @luislepe5026
      @luislepe5026 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Hector, according to Corolla’s owner’s manual, if 0W-16 is not available, the manual suggests 0W-20. However, it must be replaced with 0W-16 at the next oil change (Page 527, vehicle specifications). Of course, bottom line, use the recommended oil.
