not wearing makeup has actually improved my self esteem and my skin. trying to cover up my acne and then washing off all my makeup and revealing my acne every night made me feel so much worse.
Sadly, about 20 years ago I went to see a dermatologist for breakouts He glanced at me and said ‘stop using hairspray and makeup ‘ and walked out of the room. I was terrified and complied for years Nothing improved I am sorry to say, and I lived in terror that anything I put on would cause a problem. It’s great there is the internet and people like you nowadays to help people understand more thoroughly.
Bayoushka please hang in there, dear one! My daughter had to go to an endocrinologist to have her hormone levels tested and we figured out the problem was coming from the inside. Don’t give up, you will be ok😊💕
I'm a makeup artist that has gone makeup free...haha not sure my salon loves it, but my skin sure does! I still love makeup for the fun and creativity of it, but I limit it to date nights with my husband 😉
I too have been going makeup free more often since following Dr Dray. My husband said he liked me better without all the makeup. I wear my eye makeup and sunscreen :). My skin has been fabulous! Dr Dray is magic :)
Why are people just commenting about makeup, there’s plenty of people who wear makeup almost everyday and have perfect skin ... , its all about how good you wash your skin every night, i hardly wear makeup or hardly do anything to it and i break out like crazy ..make it make sense
It all depends on skin types... most people who wear makeup w/o breaking out have normal to dry skin.. personally I have oily skin and have seen great results in quitting face makeup.. but you do you girly
You are always so generous with so much information! I will have my two teenage granddaughters watch this for sure. I no longer have acne but I’m beginning to realize that my skin actually looks better loosing the foundation and powder because now all it does is to accentuate my fine lines that I have traded for acne. 😳. I just figure that alive earned every line and wrinkle I now have. Thanks so much!! Sue
@@yeemonoo6320 No they're not! Dr. Dray advices to stay away from them as they dry the skin further and as a result your skin produces even more oil. Dr. Dray advices to quit toners. If you don't want to quit toners then look for alcohol free ones which are loaded with humectants and obviously FRAGRANCE FREE. Korean brands have many alcohol free hydrating toners but pay a lot of attention to the ingredient list as many of them contain fragrance. Also there are some good moisturizing fatty alcohols like cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol etc. Alcohols to avoid at all costs are Alcohol denat (ethanol), isopropyl alcohol and when ingredient list simply states "alcohol". You can take help of Google for more info.
I used to have hormonal acne in my 20s, on extremely dry skin. My dermatologist had the medicine (antibiotics) made in a thick moisturizing cream so that it wouldn't dry out my skin, this was when we were still figuring out whether it was hormonal or not. It was, and a low birth control pill first lessened it, then made it go away completely; it took several months though. Patience really is key.
I agree simple is better ...but cystic acne is terrible...i don't wear makeup or put anything on my face besides cleanser...and moisturizer. Can you make a separate video on cystic acne? I don't have major breakouts but the cystic bumps 1 to 2 a month is hard to deal with...so self conscious
Here’s how I cured mine. I took zinc daily for a month. Then I had too much, but it helped a ton. I take probiotics & DIM (this helped me sooo much bc mine is hormonal only. I have super dry skin) Mix 1 tsp sea salt w 1/2 cup bottle water. I apply w cotton ball & leave on face for at least 10 min. Cleanse w vanicream bar, moisturize w cerave lotion. What helped my daughter w oily skin is following same routine as me, she uses clean & clear persa-gel 10 on her trouble areas every night.
Nayleen Fonseca my heart goes out to you. I had cystic acne in my teens and early 20s and again in perimenopause. The only thing that helped was Retin-A, prescribed by the dermatologist. My face got worse before it got better but after 3-4 months it cleared. It was crazy expensive though. If you absolutely cannot afford a dermatologist, or pricey prescriptions, Differin gel (a retinoin) is available over the counter, $15 for a small Tube. Best of luck!
Jessica Galyon I have also had great success with the combination of zinc supplements, DIM and probiotics for my hormonal acne! (Also cutting out dairy and sugar.) I don’t have dry skin like you, mine is an oil field and until my mid-30’s I never had a cyst but had lots of closed comedones. CC from age 11-20’s until I got that cleared, had a few good years and then the hormonal acne set in. Fun times. The cystic acne is so much worse!! Anyway, always cool to see someone who has had success with a similar protocol! Your daughter is lucky to have you guiding her! Never heard of the salt solution but will read into it - thanks!
So true about makeup, especially foundation! I stopped using foundation when I started seeing my dermatologist and once my acne cleared up, it started looking better than when I wore foundation. I still wear eye makeup and lipstick to have some fun, but foundation isn't necessary once your skin is clear :)
I know there's already so many comments saying similar things, but I just really wanted to reiterate you are helping hundreds of thousands of people with your knowledge. You are truly changing peoples lives Andrea, cant thank you enough. Don't ever lose sight of the major impact you have on a wide audience of folks. Honesty always prevails...
Hi Andrea, the virtue I admire the most of you is your perseverance, and we know it is necessary in our profession, because people is constantly attacked with unhealthy advertising. Happy Holidays.
I’m 19 and I had acne from about 13 until about 6 months ago! I went face makeup free about half a year ago (no foundation, powder etc) and my skin has come on soooo much! I have no active breakouts anymore! I still wear eye makeup but nothing on my face x
Thank God I found your channel, Dr. Dray!!! I wish I knew you 10 years ago. I used too many products, spent too much and still have acne. Now I only use Neutrogena, Cerave, and Differin (3 mos) sleep a lot and my skin is now singing Hallelujah!!🙏 You are God sent. Thank you for sharing that brain. Now I follow you everywhere (social media) and only listens to you. GOD BLESS YOU and thank you so much!!! Please don't get tired of sharing your knowledge. xoxo
Started watching Dr. Dray a month ago, IT'S LIKE I WENT TO SCHOOL! I threw out my old ineffective, fragranced, problematic and EXPENSIVE skin care, took only products recommended on her channel, started using sunscreen religiously for the first time in my life.....and other than doing my brows with a pencil, mascara and concealer, I've been make up free. My skin is plumping up, clearing and glowing. Plus, I started working out again. May God bless this woman.
I agree, I was using it like 2 years and I was still breaking out. I stoped just one month ago and face get's MUCH better. I am so happy for those videos! 😊
I just found you today and I have binge watched you like a Netflix show! Thank you so much for making these videos!! So much amazing information and I am having so much fun learning. I am dying to know your thoughts on Rodan & Fields. After hearing your thoughts on expensive skincare, I think I can guess your answer, but I am curious. Thanks so much!
I'm sitting here, struggling with cystic acne breakouts yet again, and I'm just blown away listening to you lay down this advice. I'm being brought to tears because so much of what you're saying are things I already know and that people like my parents have already told me, like not using so many products on my skin. I have given in way too readily to the temptation to introduce new products in the hopes that they will miraculously clear me up. But of course, I've had no such luck, and in fact they've had the opposite effect. Thank you so much for your straightforward, thorough videos about skincare. I'm learning so much from you. It's refreshing to listen to a dermatologist dump her knowledge on me without the time constraint of an in-person office visit. You're my new favorite TH-camr and I'm going to continue binge-watching your videos. :)
thank you for these tips! i finally have my acne better under control because i've been keeping it more simple and being consistent. :) all these tips are things i knew before, but it's hard to follow them when you're desperate for a quick fix. learning that acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide take 3-4 months to really clear acne up changed my mindset and made me be more patient.
hey guys covergirl clean sensitive foundation is fragrance free and oil free if ya just need foundation seems a little less offensive than others and its only 5.00!
Learned so much from your channel!!! Told A lot of youtubers about you and to watch!!! To much misinformation out there about skin care and products!!!!
Pearl Chiappine I could not agree more. My 35 year old daughter and my 16 year old grandson are subscribers. Both are know using CeraVe products especially the AM moisturizer with #30 SPF. I have put together several skin care kits as Christmas gifts. Thank you again Dr. Dray. You are so special.
stephanie sprinkle Awe, I would absolutely love to have you as a grand daughter. Don't let your family discourage you. My grandma taught me to take care of my skin. It has really paid off. Many of my friends have had skin cancer lesions. Some more then once. I have learned so much from Dr. Dray. I always had a routine, but now I have confidence in what I am doing. Stay beautiful, HUGS.
So true about the makeup 🙏 I stopped and it changed my whole view of myself. I was so insecure and hated every bit of myself. When I stopped I began to love myself and accept my "flaws" and I felt 1000000x better. I where makeup only on special occasions now, and I'm so thankful for this. I highly recommend giving this a go. 💖 You're all much more beautiful than you may think. It's easy to see our own "flaws."
Excellent information and tips. I agree with your points with the exception that an "exceedingly ripe" (practically popping out of your skin) blemish core can be carefully extracted without spreading the infection, cross contamination, scarring and so on, IF done correctly in a sterile situation. However, there are certain deep or "blind" blemishes that should never be touched, squeezed or picked. Hands off your face is the best advice, hands down.
So happy to have found your channel. Full of reliable advice. I always felt like good skin was for the blessed... blessed with naturally acne free skin or blessed with a family that can pay for the dermatologist and fancy products. You're bringing skincare to the people desperate for help. All of our faces thank you!
Wow I’m soo glad I found this! I struggle with acne and very oily skin, I have a very nice dermatologist but I’ve only had recommendations for topical creams and spironolactone, she’s never really gone over and explained in detail my skin care routine and what I should be doing, and I’m doing a lot of things wrong! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and being real!
Thank you so much! I always look forward to your informative videos. I have super oily skin and have had all my life. I’m 71 now and look younger so I guess that is a bonus for having oily skin. I have never worn much makeup, certainly not every day and I think that had something to do with looking younger too (along with never smoking). Thanks again and I’m wishing you and your Mom a very Merry Christmas.
Working on rotating out items with fragrance :) Hair care items are next. Agree, am also just using an eyebrow pencil and mascara most days and love that.
CeraVe has a new facial SPF that is meant for oily/acne prone skin. It's called the Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen (SPF 30). I haven't tried it myself, but it seems like a good one to consider.
I totally agree with you Dr. Dray even since I stop my daily make up masking routine almost 8 years ago I discovered the freedom of not wearing a mask every day as well as my real glowing beauty on my own skin, most of my friends ask me why you look so glowing and your cheeks and lips are so rosy my answer is always I dont wear heavy make up every single day...oh I even wear SPF while I'm inside my house to is my every day. They dont believe me most of the times they think I'm wearing foundation on lipstick and blush but I'm not.... Also I'm so happy I found a truly gold fountain of wisdom in your chanel...
I went makeup free at my work last June. It's daunting at first since I was suffering from acne and acne scar, and I work at a doctor's office so I meet a lot of people in one day. I just have to believe that my decision is going to be beneficial to my skin care and grow thick skin. But it is liberating now and my skin feels light when I'm not wearing foundation. And so many people at work and regular patients have pull me aside and compliment on how well my skin looks now. Now I'm watching your video and I think it's a great and honest advice to cut off face makeup to prevent acne. Thanks Dr. Dray.
January makeup free 😭😱😬😓 I’m going to try it but I’m so addicted to all things beauty. I would be up for the challenge! I have made drastic steps to cut foundation and powders for only special occasions. I’m currently using a concealer (on occasion) and mascara.
I finished finals last week! I also stared Accutane last week. My acne triggers definitely include stress and lack of sleep. Great video, as always, Dr. Dray! ❤️
Hi Dr Dray! Hoping you can answer my question. I certainly know that popping a pimple can cause scarring, however I’ve also noticed scarring even when I don’t pop them! What can I do to avoid these scars? Thank you 🙏🏽
I agree with you on the St. Ives but that those power brushes that scrub your face like an automobile, feel sooooo good. Thank you for your videos, you have such a cheery disposition and are a wealth of knowledge. I really appreciate your videos as I’m sure so many others do. Happy holidays to you and your mom :)
The crazy thing to me was that I thought makeup made me feel better, but it was actually making me feel worse. I somehow became much more comfortable and confident despite my acne when I stopped the desperate dependency on makeup, and then as a bonus my skin began to improve ;)
My skin got so much better after I stopped daily makeup. Only when I go out, at most 1 time a week. It’s (strangely) made me feel so much better about myself (acne cleared up crazy quickly) and has saved me lots of time in the AM and money. And I was one who wore makeup all day everyday. I still love it, but so much more now that I do it only when I want to and feel creative (no more “I have to get ready” stress). Now I’m just trying to get rid of tiny bumps, texture, and acne scars, and the progress is addicting which makes the routine (which is not that extensive) easy to follow.
Your face is not an automobile! 😂. You are so hilarious Dr Dray. I’ve been binge watching you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise❤️❤️❤️
This is the best evidence base video ever! Nowadays, I never wear make-up any more, just eye brow pencil and lipstick if any, and mascara on special occasions. Just a simple cleanser, eye gel and moisturiser - boom, clear skin.
Dr. Dray, I am sending enormous thanks for the time and education you so lovingly offer us. Your beauty is proof of your knowledge. I do use a bit of make up daily for work. At 64 I really need it. I have been blessed with never having acne. Extra thanks for introducing me to the CeraVe line of products. This time of year I have obligations which do require a full face of makeup and not enough time to wash up at home. If it were not for the CeraVe Makeup Removing Cleanser Clothes I am sure My face would begin to break out. I carry them in my purse every place I go along with the AM moisturizer with SPF 30. Both contain hyaluronic acid and 3 ceramides. The cloths thoroughly remove all makeup, even waterproof mascara and leave my skin totally moisturized. I adore them. When I do a full face of makeup I can get it off my skin prior to going home. You probably have spoken about them already, buy I cannot thank you enough. Much love always. So looking forward to your next vlog :)).
I started wearing makeup and doing 1 million layers of skincare since 18, my skin looked good for a while before it started to break the hell out. Started reducing all of them 2 years later now i'm 23 and I have to thank myself for that. Thank you Dr. Dray for addressing these, I feel like not many people out there are aware that cosmetics and most of skincare products are in the end still chemical and the more you put on your face, the more risky and problematic the situation becomes. Also, listen to her and stop using all those automatic cleansing brushes people. Our face is not a car 🙄🙄
Hi Dr. Dray, I love your Chanel. I've become addictive to watching and learning from you.....i have developed milia around my eyes and I blame it on using coconut oil as my nighttime moisturizer. I have stopped using coconut oil but how can I dissolve or remove the milia without a visit to dermatologist?
I realize that this video is quite old, but I just recently found your channel a few days ago and have been bingeing on them! I've been looking for good affordable skincare options for my dry acne prone skin and I've found your videos to be so informative and helpful! And I love that you have so many "affordable skincare" videos and take the time to really show and explain in detail what's good and what's not. I commend you for that! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 SideNote: your giant coffee mug in the beginning of the video had my dying! My husband was like "that looks just like one of yours" LOL. I'm a big coffee drinker and have quite a few "full pot sized" coffee mugs! 😅
Found you from your Differin demo about 6 months ago and have continued to heed your advice. I suffered from countless closed comedones on my forehead, cheeks, and chin. Since then, my skin and confidence has improved! Thank you for taking time and effort to share your knowledge on this platform!
I just found your channel and I've been binge watching. I've already learned so much! You mentioned that you shouldn't apply acne fighting products around the mouth and nose creases, but that's where my acne is so...? What do you recommend for those areas of the face? I've been alternating benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.
Thank you for your great tips. I wished I found you sooner, but for the past few days I have been watching all your videos about acne, because I had always had clear face and now in my late 30's I started breaking out and have no idea why. I watched your night routine for acne and I started to use differin adapalene cream every other night, but wanted to know do I need to use a moisturizer as well after applying differin or sunscreen/moisturizer only during the day. I would greatly appreciate if you could answer. Thank you!
Hi am really going through the same thing my skin on my face really does not like me right now I have always had good skin now it just brakeing out like crazy and I really don't know why 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕😕
Thank you dr Dray for the honest review. As the medical doctor, i am just very selective with the information from the beauty blogger. Your channel is the only one i could trust. Keep it genuine 👌🏼Much love from Bali ❤️
Wish I'd watched this sooner. I just went out and got a non-foaming salicylic acid cleanser from neutrogena which does have fragrance in it, not realizing the CeraVe SA cleanser is non-foaming as well. Think I'm just going to switch to 100% CeraVe products once I run out of everything else since my skin seems to love them and they're the only ones without fragrance and with the ceramides and niacinamides my skin really loves.
I just love these skincare chatty videos. You make me smile. I’ve always felt the same way about the Clarisonic brushes, I’ve never wanted to brush my face off. Lol
Hello Dr Dray, I find your videos so informative. I love to hear the science behind the products and conditions. I have very sensitive, borderline rosacea skin. I wondering if is possible to do anti-aging with my sensitive skin. I don’t wear makeup and drink lots of water. I always wear sunscreen, but every time I use a moisturizer it’s seems to irritate my skin after a week or so of use. My skin becomes very dry in the winter. However, if I apply moisturizer to combat the dryness, it beings to break out! Help! How do I keep my skin moisturizer without causing breakouts.
Is it true that the skin can get used to ingredients like salicylic acid, adapalene, benzoyl peroxide etc. and it is no longer working or even wosen the problem?
What about mineral makeup? I only wear this brand called alima pure only has 4 ingredients Zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, mica and iron oxides. Is that bad for daily use? And i thoroughly remove my mineral foundation and sunscreen with the double cleansing method (oil cleanser, then cetaphil cleanser, thayers witch hazel toner and cetaphil pm moisturizer.
Dr. Dray, I would love to see an Acne video specifically for guys. My son in law has terrible breakouts. I’ve been looking for a good reputable video to send him but hard to find. Something that is succinct and clear steps to follow with product options below. Love your videos!
Dr Dray thank you so much for your advice and continue to make videos! I had horrible acne and following your simple steps and using sunscreen now. My skin had improve so much!!! Thank you so much!!!! ❤️
😭😭i only use makeup once or twice a week sometimes not even once . i wash my face Every single day and night . Change my pillow cases and wash my makeup brushes every week and i stilllll get adult acne 😭ugh
I used to never leave the house without makeup on because I hated my red dry skin. But since I've done a strict skincare routine and barely wear makeup unless it's a special occasion, my skin has never looked better!! I am confident in my skin without something covering it instead of treating and controlling the problem. Whenever I do wear a lot of eye makeup, usually the next day I am all inflamed around my eye area and red and flakey. I am very sensitive around my eyes.
Gosh the not wearing make up part is so hard! I’m 31 and have been dealing with severe to moderate acne for 16 years now and I just cant go outside without some concealer on the cystic bumps and some on the hyperpigmentation thats left... I try to let my skin “breathe” on my days off but still too scared to show my bare face.. Bluh.
Hi MK! We have the same initials :) I wanted to share my understanding towards your reluctance to go make up free. About a year and a half ago, I experienced probably the worst acne breakout ever. A friend talked me into not wearing make up at all, and let me tell you as someone who hasn't gone without make up since i was 14, I was absolutely terrified - and turns out I had a good reason to. People comment lots of things like "oh honey, what happened?/have you tried xyz?/have you tried to quit dairy?/try veganism!/you should try accutane!" And let me tell you IT SUCKED. Especially when it mostly comes from costumers while at work. BUT, and it's a big but, it made a difference. My skin finally started breathing again, I also paired it with tretinoin 0.05% and stuck to a simple cleanser and la roshe posay cicaplast Baum b5 as a moisturizer. Give the no make up a thought, I completely respect your choices as I understand how difficult it is to bare it all for the world to see, for me it felt worst than being naked in public. Wishing you the best!
Hi Dr. Dray, I used rogaine for a 2 months for my hair loss but ended up with thicker peach fuzz on my face (it's been over a year and it's still there), which has resulted in acne breakouts for the first time since highschool over 10 years ago, do you think thicker peachfuzz can cause or worsen acne?
Great info - THANK YOU Dr. Dray ! BTW, regarding foundation makeup, when I was a teen I had absolutely terrible, painful, cystic acne, and certainly agree that makeup made it so much much worse. Unfortunately my sister sold Mary Kay which made foundation very accessible in my home, regardless of the fact that as a desperate and naive teenager I had no clue that it was not suited for my skin type/not at all kind to my acne-prone face as MK's earlier formulations along with just about every cosmetic company way back then contained pore-clogging- ingredients and no cosmetic lines as I recall were formulated/marketed as "noncomedogenic" (and quite frankly my pores never recovered to this day on one side of my face where I seemed to break out more and used the MK makeup to cover up what the makeup was probably exacerbating- but fortunately did not have much residual scarring; after acne flares subsided only mild atrophic scarring in some isolated spots but I was very careful not to touch my face/pick at anything and that probably played a role because I was very lucky not to get more scars). Certainly not singling out Mary Kay, because back then just about EVERY foundation on the market was absolutely the worst thing for acne. Then I found out Liquimat by Summers Lab through my aunt's recommendation. It helped a great deal along with using 2% salicylic acid wipes and benzoyl peroxide. It took some time but finally with the Liquimat I could feel comfortable in my own skin , eventually to the point where I stopped wearing even the Liquimat tinted coverup. I wish this happy ending never went away. I still had very oily skin and loved how clean my skin felt after using cleaners but not knowing many were stripping my skin. (Also regularly used the St. Ives Apricot scrub too.) Unfortunately in my 30s I had inherited a chronic inflammatory skin condition from my dad which especially manifested on my nose/square in the middle of my face so I had full-face scanned CO2 laser on my Fitzpatrick Type II skin but it left me hypopigmented /waxy pinkish uneven pigment in many areas of my face. Now I have to wear makeup again-- and never look natural because of waxiness with makeup trying to cover it, even yellow/green based makeup not helpful as little if any pigment is there in much of my face now and only waxy pink comes through on skin tone even with the makeup:-(
I just want to start by saying I love your channel. I just discovered it recently and have been obsessed. I have to say that the single thing that’s made the biggest difference for my acne is my Clarisonic! I’ve been on retin-a and clyndoxyl for years and had pretty good results, but have only noticed a drastic difference after using the Clarisonic. While there is some initial irritation to be expected when starting daily manual exfoliation, I think there’s something to be said about the effectiveness of combining manual and chemical exfoliants. A lot of chronic acne sufferers swear by the Clarisonic.
I developed acne in my early 40’s! I know now I made it worse because I threw everything at it. Luckily the phase passed & I’ve been clear since. Stupid hormones. 😃 Also - I picked up a Totoro mug after seeing it on your channel! It’s now my favorite mug - I had no idea a silicone mug lid could make so much of a difference.
Can you do a video on hormonal break outs? I’ve never had acne my whole life even puberty never more than one two at most, now in my fresh 30’s I am finding a lot of things are changing about my body , bust most especially every month I can expect 3-6 breakouts mostly on my jaw and chin but sometimes forehead.
Dr Dray, I had horrible cystic acne for a few years. Limiting sugar and dairy has helped. I still get some pimples especially between my eyebrows. Applying acne medication on that area is tricky because it's more sensitive. Any suggestion?
I fell for the hype and tried the Clarisonic 2 years ago and talk about irritation!!! My face felt like it had been sandblasted. Not good. Never again!
I don't wear makeup on a normal day except for concealer (I have very dark under-eye circles due to two sleeping disorders) and lipstick because I love it. It has improved my skin and no one has objected to my having a mostly naked face except my mother.
Oh my gawsh Dr D! Ive been using the apricot scrub with my clarisonic brush every day- come to find out through binge watching your videos this is what has caused the intense comedonal acne (I thought I had a rash that meant I was dying of some underlying/undiagnosed health issue). Ive stopped using both and in only 4 days the rash is gone and my skin is clearing! You are awesome- thank you!
Because of acne antibiotics and mrsa, literally almost died ten years ago of heart failure.. Ten years later, I am so excited to start Accutane. Oh my God, people and antibiotics. My skin barrier is ready for accutane. Cannot wait to start!!!!!
I’ve been weaning myself off of makeup, except for my eyebrow pencil, mascara and lip gloss. The first week of keeping my face foundation and bronzer free it dramatically cleared up! This past weekend I wore a full face for date night with my husband and my face broke out. Lol. So yea... I might be done with it all together. Luckily, my husband says I don’t need it.
Thank you so much for your professional advice! I was wondering which sunscreen would you recommend for around the eye area without causing milia? Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
I have been using a moisturizer at night which contains niacinamide. For the first three weeks my skin looked smoother and my pores also looked better. But since few days my skin is breaking out in several places. Is this a purge and I should continue with this regime or discontinue using thd product or decrease the frequency of usage? Please help
I was doing well until the last part... don't pop your pimples. I am so bad, I last a few days and then I find myself picking... I try so hard not to but it is a subconscious habit most the time. 😭
Abena Amaka what helps me is to stand 2ft away from the MIRROR & at night when taking makeup off I turn a dimmer light on not the bright lights. My face looked better everyday. ☺️
@@yelenatsytsyn I don't really pick them in front of the mirror.. I do it while I'm watching TV or TH-cam, completely subconscious think. I feel my face and anything I feel anything raised I pick. So hard to stop because not fully conscious of it. Think I do stand about 2ft away and bathroom light is pretty dim. Just need to break the habit of picking.
Abena Amaka yes I agree, I do that sometimes. I try to keep myself busy thinking it will help. But knowing I’m making scars scares me so I do my best. Eventually it will be a past habit. You can do it. 😁
Oh my gosh I was touching my face and checking for bumps when you gave us the last tip. It’s been such a bad habit of picking my skin. I will keep what you said in mind every time I start!!! Thanks again
I’m using the de la Cruz sulfur ointment! Iv used it 4 times and I haven’t got one pimple yet! I have acne prone skin and so far I’m loving this product. I use it every other day for 20 mins than rise my face with cold water.so no face scrub? I have combo skin
Love your humor!! My dermatologist recommends the Dew Puff which works well; however, I only use it once a week to exfoliate and get an exceptional cleans. I like to keep my routine as gentle as possible.

Oh thanks alot. She can be long but very educative
thank you her videos are very informative but they drag out too long
Thank you 🙏🏽
you should do the steps in every video helps a lot to get to a certain pin point!
“Being broke doesn’t help with self esteem”.
Nailed it dr. Dray.
Love your minimalist approach.
Dr. Aanchal MD I don’t understand
I don’t think this has anything to do with being broke lmao
not wearing makeup has actually improved my self esteem and my skin. trying to cover up my acne and then washing off all my makeup and revealing my acne every night made me feel so much worse.
Same!😊
I understand completely, just I can’t be brave enough to go makeup free :( but yes taking on the makeup and exposing all the acne is the worse feeling
Yes! When I don't wear make up I feel shit for a few days but then I get used to it 😅 Now I feel much better ❤️
I stop wearing makeup but I'm still breaking out...
Thanks for watching
Me too :( I was never the type of girl who wears make up, I am 26 now and I don't use make up at all and my skin is full of acne and red spots :(
Bayoushka please hang in there, dear one! My daughter had to go to an endocrinologist to have her hormone levels tested and we figured out the problem was coming from the inside. Don’t give up, you will be ok😊💕
Linda Bilsbury thank you
That's awful, I had a a doctor once who said "so what it's just acne just wash your face with soap and water" like omg SOAP what was she thinking!
These are everything 99% of the “beauty vloggers” won’t definitely say but you better listen to the doctor anyway! I’m a guy but I love skin care!💪🏼
This is like that advice your common sense keeps telling you in the back of your mind but you keep ignoring it 😩 But simplicity truly is key
easier said then done sometimes
You've saved me so much money I stopped using 10 products now I use 3 period and sunscreen. Your amazingly smart.!
I'm a makeup artist that has gone makeup free...haha not sure my salon loves it, but my skin sure does! I still love makeup for the fun and creativity of it, but I limit it to date nights with my husband 😉
Congrats!!
Sue
Thanks for watching! Hope you are having a great Monday Ms Sue!
Good info as always. It's so cool to have a dermatologist on you tube to give such great tips!
Thanks for watching!
Jane Fleet exactly!!
Are alcohol based toners good for oily ance prone skin? I have a oily breakout skin. And I'm now using clean and clear oil-control toner.
Patience really is key.
it is challenging for sure
I agree simple is better ...but cystic acne is terrible...i don't wear makeup or put anything on my face besides cleanser...and moisturizer. Can you make a separate video on cystic acne? I don't have major breakouts but the cystic bumps 1 to 2 a month is hard to deal with...so self conscious
Sunscreen
Here’s how I cured mine. I took zinc daily for a month. Then I had too much, but it helped a ton. I take probiotics & DIM (this helped me sooo much bc mine is hormonal only. I have super dry skin)
Mix 1 tsp sea salt w 1/2 cup bottle water. I apply w cotton ball & leave on face for at least 10 min. Cleanse w vanicream bar, moisturize w cerave lotion.
What helped my daughter w oily skin is following same routine as me, she uses clean & clear persa-gel 10 on her trouble areas every night.
Oh! And try removing makeup or sunscreen w hemp seed oil! It’s great for acne.
Also, you cracked me up with "your face is not an automobile" 😂
foundation is the worst
Emma Ragland lipstick can go a long way in making a lady feel “jazzy”
How about a powder foundation with spf 55 in it instead of the foundation itself ?
I know there's already so many comments saying similar things, but I just really wanted to reiterate you are helping hundreds of thousands of people with your knowledge. You are truly changing peoples lives Andrea, cant thank you enough. Don't ever lose sight of the major impact you have on a wide audience of folks. Honesty always prevails...
Hi Andrea, the virtue I admire the most of you is your perseverance, and we know it is necessary in our profession, because people is constantly attacked with unhealthy advertising. Happy Holidays.
Thanks!
I started drinking 5 bottles of water a day and my face looks so much better
I threw all my products away that were trash
I’m 19 and I had acne from about 13 until about 6 months ago! I went face makeup free about half a year ago (no foundation, powder etc) and my skin has come on soooo much! I have no active breakouts anymore! I still wear eye makeup but nothing on my face x
makes a huge difference for sure!
ur saving ur skin! and money too
Thank God I found your channel, Dr. Please don't get tired of sharing your knowledge. xoxo
Thanks! Happy weekend :)
I wish I had this info back in my late teens and early 20’s. Thanks for the great tips!
Thanks for watching!
That St. Yves scrub is the devil for the face...
the worst!!!!
Amen, in the 90’s it was shoved on us
It sure is!! 😣
Rose Yes! I tried it when I was 16 and hated it. Didn't buy it again.
Thanks! You guessed my answer
:) all these tips are things i knew before, but it's hard to follow them when you're desperate for a quick fix. learning that acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide take 3-4 months to really clear acne up changed my mindset and made me be more patient.
it is tough to deal with...glad the tips are helpful!
This was so informative and better yet, entertaining! Once I watch one of your videos, I end up going on a whole marathon. I'm highkey guilty of #10.
hey guys covergirl clean sensitive foundation is fragrance free and oil free if ya just need foundation seems a little less offensive than others and its only 5.00!
Learned so much from your channel!!! Told A lot of youtubers about you and to watch!!! To much misinformation out there about skin care and products!!!!
Thanks for watching!
I've mentioned her many times in the comment section of other TH-camrs videos! She's awesome
stephanie sprinkle Awe, I would absolutely love to have you as a grand daughter.
Dr Dray tells it like it is. Th best Derm on yt😊
All of our faces thank you!
thanks!
So...your point is to avoid stress, IE family next week! I will tell family I am following doctor's orders. JK, I love my family.
easier said then done!
Annette Harper haha good one😄
TH-cam need to bump this video every year, important message. Thanks Dr!
You are a good skin ambassador. Good role model for going sans makeup. Sorry to say the one dermatologist in our town sells makeup.
Thanks!
Keeps you coming back 😉
best video about acne I've ever seen, really helpful, and most importantly, simple tips! thanks doc!
Thanks!
Working on rotating out items with fragrance :) Hair care items are next. Agree, am also just using an eyebrow pencil and mascara most days and love that.
hard divorce for sure
CeraVe has a new facial SPF that is meant for oily/acne prone skin. It's called the Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen (SPF 30). I haven't tried it myself, but it seems like a good one to consider.
it is a chemical sunscreen, so no zinc...which people will perceive as being lighter, but may find irritating
The 1st derm who understands and actually helps me! So happy i found your channel, thank you for helping us! 😍
:)
Take the plunge!
Best of luck!!
I finished finals last week! I also stared Accutane last week. My acne triggers definitely include stress and lack of sleep. Great video, as always, Dr. Dray! ❤️
stress makes everything worse! hope things improve and Thanks for watching
Ash W. I'm starting accutane in January how has it been for you so far?
And BTW doc.. I love this beautiful navy silk top on you..
Thank you so much!
I was thinking the same thing. That color is doing wonders on her.
Happy holidays to you and your mom :)
that stuff is the worst, lol! thanks so much for your sweet comments and support Ms KIta !
The crazy thing to me was that I thought makeup made me feel better, but it was actually making me feel worse. I somehow became much more comfortable and confident despite my acne when I stopped the desperate dependency on makeup, and then as a bonus my skin began to improve ;)
That last bit of advice is my all time most difficult thing to follow! But I know it's true. Thanks for drilling it into my head...haha.
:)
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise❤️❤️❤️
thanks for watching
This is the best evidence base video ever!
Nowadays, I never wear make-up any more, just eye brow pencil and lipstick if any, and mascara on special occasions. Just a simple cleanser, eye gel and moisturiser - boom, clear skin.
Thank you for all this info, Dr. Dray! You're dedicating a lot of time to us, and we can only be grateful.
thanks!
Thanks so much!
SideNote: your giant coffee mug in the beginning of the video had my dying! My husband was like "that looks just like one of yours" LOL. I'm a big coffee drinker and have quite a few "full pot sized" coffee mugs! 😅
thanks for watching!
I'm learning so much. I feel like I have to use a notebook just to keep up with all the great tips.
Found you from your Differin demo about 6 months ago and have continued to heed your advice. I suffered from countless closed comedones on my forehead, cheeks, and chin. Since then, my skin and confidence has improved! Thank you for taking time and effort to share your knowledge on this platform!
Glad to hear it helped! Differin cash back on ibotta right now fyi!!
Glad to hear you enjoy and hope you are having a nice day
Wish I'd watched this sooner.
The apricot scrubs tore my face up! Thank you for your videos! Happy New Year Dr. Dray!😘
I love how you explain things! And some of science of it. You just make it so easy to understand and funny too! Thank you!
I just love these skincare chatty videos. You make me smile. I’ve always felt the same way about the Clarisonic brushes, I’ve never wanted to brush my face off. Lol
thanks! glad you enjoyed
Help! How do I keep my skin moisturizer without causing breakouts.
there is no such thing as anti aging btw...focus on sunscreen
Dr Dray thanks!
Is it true that the skin can get used to ingredients like salicylic acid, adapalene, benzoyl peroxide etc. and it is no longer working or even wosen the problem?
no
You are just the best! Thank you for such helpful, honest, and effective advice. This video clarified so many questions I had.
Thanks!
22:17 Came here for emotional support😂 I have a tiny pimple BUT I WILL NOT POP IT
What about mineral makeup? I only wear this brand called alima pure only has 4 ingredients
Zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, mica and iron oxides.
Is that bad for daily use? And i thoroughly remove my mineral foundation and sunscreen with the double cleansing method (oil cleanser, then cetaphil cleanser, thayers witch hazel toner and cetaphil pm moisturizer.
Jessica Melissa mica is terrible. See how it is harvested and you’ll never buy makeup again
Dr. Dray, I would love to see an Acne video specifically for guys. My son in law has terrible breakouts. I’ve been looking for a good reputable video to send him but hard to find. Something that is succinct and clear steps to follow with product options below. Love your videos!
thanks
Dr Dray thank you so much for your advice and continue to make videos! I had horrible acne and following your simple steps and using sunscreen now. My skin had improve so much!!! Thank you so much!!!! ❤️
😭😭i only use makeup once or twice a week sometimes not even once . i wash my face Every single day and night . Change my pillow cases and wash my makeup brushes every week and i stilllll get adult acne 😭ugh
Love it when Dr. Dray is being brutally honest. 😘
thanks!
Hi, Dr Dray! I was wondering if you're going to discuss tretinoin for post inflamatory hyperpigmentation/acne scarring on Friday's Q&A.
yes
Dr Dray Hoooooray!!🎊🎉
Gosh the not wearing make up part is so hard! I’m 31 and have been dealing with severe to moderate acne for 16 years now and I just cant go outside without some concealer on the cystic bumps and some on the hyperpigmentation thats left... I try to let my skin “breathe” on my days off but still too scared to show my bare face.. Bluh.
Hi MK! We have the same initials :)
I wanted to share my understanding towards your reluctance to go make up free.
It’s called a “Clarisonic” and you’re not supposed to press it into your skin but allow the brush to lightly touch your skin.
I’m so glad to have found you on TH-cam! I love your very informative videos! Great job and thank you!
Thanks! Glad you are here :)
A lot of chronic acne sufferers swear by the Clarisonic.
it can be problematic as over exfoliation predisposed to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
I developed acne in my early 40’s! I know now I made it worse because I threw everything at it. Luckily the phase passed & I’ve been clear since. Stupid hormones. 😃
Also - I picked up a Totoro mug after seeing it on your channel! It’s now my favorite mug - I had no idea a silicone mug lid could make so much of a difference.
so glad you scored a totoro mug!
Any suggestion?
moisturizer first and don't put stuff on wet face

I fell for the hype and tried the Clarisonic 2 years ago and talk about irritation!!! My face felt like it had been sandblasted. Not good. Never again!
yikes!
u cant use something like that everyday, i learned my lesson too. the more u irritate ur skin, the drier adn pricklier it gets and then u get acne
Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
sunscreen does not cause milia...i like elta MD UV sport and solbar zinc...generally well tolerated around the eyes of most
I have been using a moisturizer at night which contains niacinamide.

You are amazing. The information you share really make me reconsider some of my skincare practices!
thanks
Love your humor!! My dermatologist recommends the Dew Puff which works well; however, I only use it once a week to exfoliate and get an exceptional cleans. I like to keep my routine as gentle as possible.
