    14:08 the token means "1. Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 89"
    This bataillon was estabilished in 26th august 1939 in Schwerin. In early september 1941 they fought near Leningrad, where this soldier died. In 1945 during the retreat, they were relocated to Schrimm in poland, where they got involved into heavy fights again, experiencing lots of casualties on both sides. Today there are still over 300 missed soldiers of this bataillon.

    It's crazy how good of condition the water has kept some of the things after all these years.

    It's interesting how the forest took over the two-story bunker. When it was built I bet it had a clear line of sight in front of the slits the observers inside would have used.

    Just curious, why put the boxes back into the swamp after taking the trouble to find them? It is not like wood pulled from the ocean which must be kept wet to preserve it. Metal doesn't need that.

      I sadly suppose they are mostly after relics they turn into good money. An minimum of attitude would be sending the dogtags to the red cross, but even that means a loss of money to scavengers. These guys seem to collect the bones and tags, If the report it i don't know.

    • @tombchaser
      @tombchaser ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@fishermansbuddy3785 i have the same feeling. In other videos you hear them mentioning that the items gonna fetch them alot of money. That it was a shame a fragmented german helm didnt contain a skull. And there doesnt seem to be much respect to the bones either while digging. And then you have ppl say they dont deserve any because they invaded... many soldiers didnt even want to fight but had no choice because refusing would be a certain death. On the battlefield it was either them or you.

      ("Sgt.J.") Correct! Both Countries were Very Strict. Those People already in the military when the War Started Were "Sh.t out of luck." So, To Speak. I, Don't Want to inSult Anyone. So, Opinion won't Be Stated Here. Lol. Once Bodies were found they Need to Report to Law enforcement. And, Other Organizations. But, They Keep digging at Bodies... 🤨

      Given the condition of the soldiers' remains I'm wondering if they didn't have a big shell land right at their feet. Either that or they got trapped beneath the tracks of something very large.

    • @kurttrzeciak8326
      @kurttrzeciak8326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@damit505 I am not sure what they did, but I think they are supposed to contact the German war graves organization so that the soldiers' remains can be identified and receive a proper burial in a military cemetery.

      When in the last stages of hypothermia, people tend to feel very hot and take off all of their clothes before they die. These soldiers might have died due to hypothermia.

    Wonderful families of both sides now can find some closure. How about videos of post exhumations ie what happens to the remains and the information on the dog tags. I did find your usage of the phrase the rising confusing until I realised you meant exhumation

    • @dukewellington3174
      @dukewellington3174 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is passed onto to the relevant authorities.
      Some of the Dog Tags are not able to be read and the Germans had a poor system to ID Soldiers - Dog Tags with Blood Group/ The Name or abbreviated name of the unit when they entered service (usually a training unit) and the personnel number in the unit they entered service in.
      It was unusual to have the name of the unit on your dog tag as if captured they would know if you were infanty/artilley/tank unit/airforce etc
      Whereas others had dog tags with a combination of the service member's name, blood type, serial number, the name of their next of kin and the address, city and state of their next of kin. i.e US/UK/Italy/Commonwealth Countries
      The Soviets I understand did not have Dog Tags they had Ebonite/Bakelite Capsules and the Soldiers details were listed on a piece of paper and put inside these.
