Back home in Chattanooga, a farmer was digging holes for fence posts, hit a U.S.3inch Ordnance Rifle, the brass tube, some iron fittings, heavy chains, remains of bolts etc...were found. As a kid we played in the old confederate rifle pits on missionary ridge, found buttons, .58 caliber rounds, etc...
That is awesome, I have thought about looking around near the Yadkin River near where I live and seeing what can be found. I know there have been musket balls and other artifacts found near there.

Looking at this collection, like all the others, there's a feeling that some German marched from the Fatherland to some God-forsaken swamp in the USSR just to die......for what? I find these video fascinating. Partly for the history and partly for people who seem to be able to stand being up to their hips in mud and water to pull this stuff out of the ooze. Fascinating!
To die for what? That truly is the question isn't it? As a combat veteran I can share my opinion on those just a little bit for what it's worth. Let me explain to you what they died for.... Not for politics, not for the love of country, not for anything Noble at all. Combat veterans, fight and die for each other. That's it it's that simple. They were sent there by their country, and probably very patriotic at the time and some even volunteered to go no doubt. But when you're there? And the bullets are flying around you? None of that stuff matters anymore. The only thing that matters to a true combat veteran, or should I say someone that is in combat and not yet a veteran. Is the person standing next to you. It truly is that simple. The whole goal of war for a combat soldier, is to get home, and for their friends to make it home. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
Looks like you found the remains of a foxhole that came under heavy fire, causing the troops to retreat and leave the heavy boxes of ammo that would have slowed them down. Looks like the one helmet is painted white, for winter use. Good find!
I spent 9 months in Slovakia in the early 2000s and we once went to a flea market where there was a guy selling some amazing WW2 equipment including a very nice SS camo smock and several quite good quality helmets. .
The good condition is from the heavy concentrations of tanic acid in the soil, this preserves ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Of course that is what is used to tan leather. No or little oxygen and a mostly organic soil base protected these items. Out of the ground these items will quickly deteriorate if not protected correctly. The white helmet would indicate that the soldiers were captured during the winter. The loose footwear would indicate that the soldiers were wearing felt boots and put their regular boots aside. Rifles were generally discarded but any machine guns would have been taken along. All this equipment is heavy and anything not valuable to the soldiers would be left behind. After digging up all this ordnance I thought that the comment "dangerous razor" was ironic.
I can already imagine a couple german soldiers who were there just sitting and chatting and here 75-80 years later digging up their belongings and in great condition its amazing
Very nice video - congratulations! I read that you can save the leather with oil. Put the bags in the oil after cleaning with water. Одно кладбище стоит где немцы держали свои позиции . там окопы пулемётные гнёзда , много было банок из под консерв. Второе кладбище в ущелье в лесу долеко. Но там почемуто немцы хоронили своих без ремней и были черепа рзбиты, житонов небыло. житоны мы нашли вообще в другом мести , куча была. А почему так было незнаю Загадка. Может немцы расстреляли своих кто отказывался воевать. НЕЗНАЮ. Бавария это красота и я горный человек.
The conditions are amazing. I live in Germany in the Eifel region, and when we were kids we dug out some WW2 remnants, like bullets. But they were all in very bad condition. Rusted all over.
That rifle is very beautiful. Can you make it shootable again ? I have seen people who renovate these weaponesand sometimes they can shoot, most of the times not, but this rifle looks in very good shape.
It might be possible. The action certainly looks like it could be disassembled and cleaned up. The inside of the barrel is the question: while it may have been encased in mud when found, water came first, and it's pretty likely that it rusted up. If not, then you could have a functional rifle. There's certainly enough ammunition around - IF you can keep it according to local regulations.
Have you ever restored any of the weapons to work in order again and number two how many soldiers have you been able to identify and give back to their families

Amazing how you can find such awesome things somehow after being wet and buried in the ground now for 80+ years!?!? Really incredible to see the condition of the ammunition inside the aluminum boxes! It looks like if it were just cleaned off, it might actually still fire and cycle through a MG34/42??? SMFH! It's just mind blowing how some areas of the earth are either so neutrally balanced or there's a almost complete lacking of oxygen in order to prevent corrosion of even things like the steel of these rifes and other parts and pieces made out of aluminum and steel? But in other places it will appear that these things have been in the ground for 80+ years under harsh conditions and there's barely anything left to be recognizable by now as to what these things once were?! Then taking into consideration In Northern areas of Russia that the ground stays frozen most months of the year and things still can come out of these grounds in almost immaculate condition? One would think that the 80+ years of freezing temperatures and thawing that these items would be crushed and broken up by mother nature and the natural forces of expansion and contraction over these decades now? But amazingly enough these things, most of which are shallow enough In the ground still to be at the frost levels are somehow not just able to survive? But come out of their watery or dry graves in such great condition? IDK? But to me? This fact alone blows my mind that even such things like leather can somehow survive in the ground this long and somehow still be almost in usable condition? Locks and latches are still movable, hinges open and close....and then we see the most amazing of them all coming out like in this video! We can not only make out what color these things were painted? But can still make out the painted on lettering or decals on the helmet sides! This is just astounding to see how perfectly these items are preserved from time and the elements all the while being through a war and buried within such elements through and through, yet come out looking or appearing as it were the day it went into the earth??? 😉🥴🤯🤪🤷♂️ It's definitely amazing how mother nature can be the utmost destructive on one hand, yet absolutely the best thing for preservation on another!? Really something like this to me is so fascinating to see this all. Thanks to all you guys and girls over in Russia for doing such dirty work and bringing home these young men and women who were all part of such unbelievable times in our recent past. Knowing that these were people too, and probably never thought their bodies would be discovered let alone brought back home to their loved ones? It's a very rough job and journey for these people who are all working to make this possible and I salute you all for doing such great work.

Yeah my friend has a civil war trench in his backyard. We found old food cans and combs along with knifes

The Mauser rifle with the bolt and its mechanism still encased in the wood is pretty amazing after 80 years of being burried in the mud.
